Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

I just hope this isn't being repeated in every tourist town in the UK
I am visiting friends and family in three seaside towns week. Is school Easter holidays and the weather is looking good.
Good business for chippies etc. And LA income from parking.

RevolvingPivot · 27/03/2021 07:43

So 2nd home owners are allowed to travel on Monday - had no idea.

Hadjab · 27/03/2021 07:44

The second homers are legally allowed to stay in their property from Monday.

Granny has probably had her jab, maybe even both doses, and has deemed it fine for her family to stay.

Maybe just stay indoors where it safe, until this all blows over...

debwong · 27/03/2021 07:44

Did they bring their five drug dealer cars with them? Ugh, I bet they are renting as well.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 07:47

@MiddleParking

Yeah I'm a bit surprised by the responses.

Ugh you people are so arrogant. Not only do you want to appoint yourselves in charge but you’ve got the nerve to be surprised when people tell you to pack it in rather than lapping it up.

If following the rules is now considered arrogant then yup - that's me!

The responses are a mix of bots and the usual anti-lockdown voices who come running on here. Show a bit of concern about Covid increasing and you'll be shot down as a lockdown lover. It's repellent.

Don't get it @debwong ?

@ButtonMoony

Great to hear that people are starting to move around, get their lives back, and put money back into the economy.
That's what people said last Summer, and then infection rates started growing in August leading to the second lock down.

Doesn't look like bots, just people who realise 2 days won't make much difference, and data amongst other things doesn't suggest an increase in cases requiring hospitalisation is coming.

Maybe we should have another Eat out to Help Out?

@Dontforgetyourbrolly

Move to an ugly industrial town in essex like me then you wouldn't have to worry about things like this Grin
😆

Not so good if we end up locked down again or the next phase of relaxations is delayed due to rising infection numbers though is it? One step forward, two back!

I know Rishi is stupid, but surely he's not that stupid to repeat the eat out to spread covid mistake.

TomHardyAndMe · 27/03/2021 07:51

@Pinotwoman82

We’ve had our 3rd wave, it was January/February. We have been in lockdown since end of December. Schools went back 3 weeks ago, shops still not open for another 2 weeks, our hospital admissions are at very low levels now. I think Europe are having a 3rd wave as they never properly locked down after Christmas
That was the second wave.
ButtonMoony · 27/03/2021 07:52

@Kazzyhoward

Completely different situation to last summer.

Time to get the country moving and people living again.

FortunesFavour · 27/03/2021 07:52

Well I guess those not lucky enough to live in a “beautiful seaside town” would also like to stretch their legs in the fresh air, particularly those who’ve endured lockdown in the inner city. My heart bleeds for you OP.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 27/03/2021 07:52

Also live in a nice place in the SW. Visitors and students are about, cases are rising.

I certainly won’t be going to the chippy or the main supermarkets for a while.

Earlybirdcatches · 27/03/2021 07:53

What are bots?

Tbf OP I’ve followed the rules, but I wouldn’t have a big issue with what you’ve described. If Granny is alone she can have a support bubble to stay. The 2nd home owners are only two days early.

Pinotwoman82 · 27/03/2021 07:53

Infection rates did not start growing in august, and in fact in October infections were at the highest in the north, there were more people in hospitals in the north than in the whole of the south put together including London. So tourists did not drive up infections in tourist areas in the summer.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/03/2021 07:53

Does the gran live alone?

If so, they can visit as a support bubble.

CornishTiger · 27/03/2021 07:54

Well it was always going to happen. We are expecting appearances of early birds.

The local GP has moved to critical health care needs only again. The supermarket stocks aren’t ready for this.

I’m welcoming of tourism but in line with the government restrictions. Pleased to see you but please still follow social distancing.

IndecentFeminist · 27/03/2021 07:54

I'm not overly concerned because here on the Isle of Wight, our rates didn't increase over the summer...they only kicked off in December when the new variant hit.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 27/03/2021 07:54

Perhaps the council could be allocated the fines - they make quite a bit from various traffic infringements but could do with the money.

Sometimes life sucks.

I live in a beautiful seaside town - don't earn much but have made that choice.

Rules is rules.

Again - for a reason.
