Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

Careful - it’s dangerous to be rubbernecking while getting your kids out of the car.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 27/03/2021 07:32

That's where it's come from 🙄

To think it has started
Archersandlemonade · 27/03/2021 07:32

The 2nd homers could live there all the time - I don’t know why people moan about them - surely it’s a bonus that they don’t. People say they come and put strains on the local
Hospital etc but the local
Hospital must be able to cope with all the people otherwise they wouldn’t build so many houses in that town- and if they can’t cope then that’s an issue for the local
Cpuncil surely

I don’t understand, here in Australia we are hearing about how the UK should be getting a third wave sometime soon, why are people travelling?
I don't know where you've heard that. We have two thirds of adults vaccinated and our cases have dropped to approx 5000 a day out of a population of 65 million.

EU countries are heading towards a third wave. We are no longer part. Of the EU

IndecentFeminist · 27/03/2021 07:32

What are you main concerns/objections?

BadMudda · 27/03/2021 07:33

Oh come on.

Please get a grip.

There is so much more to life than getting worked up over stuff like this ... we've had a terrible year. Show some kindness.

I'll keep my eyes shut next time I get them out - probably safer.

OK sorry 10 days, but rates are down, vaccines and mass LFT tests are now in wide circulation. If you want your town's economy and shops to survive, you'd welcome them. 12th April for some is the end of the Easter hols so too late to visit gran or the second one they own and have been paying for all year while it sits empty. It really really doesn't matter that they are a few days early. Cases WILL rise, we know this, but so long as hospitalizations and deaths don't, that is acceptable. Lockdown is not a permanent solution

Bluntness100 · 27/03/2021 07:34

Is there something missing from this op? I assume you hold some form of official position in your town hence you’re whole “everyone is welcome, stance? Because otherwise it is not your town and you don’t get to decide who is welcome or not?

Mainland Europe is suffering a third wave - the UK has cases and deaths falling - we are hoping this will not happen - over half the adult population has been vaccinated (over 50s mainly) with the under 50s to follow shortly - things will be slowly opening up...
MiddleParking · 27/03/2021 07:34

Probably as safe as counting people on the opposite side of the road, yes.

EvilOnion · 27/03/2021 07:35

I get what you're saying OP but it's understandable that people are excited to get away now and lucky you living in such a nice place that people are desperate to visit!

Last year our county was absolutely swamped with people's getting to the local beaches and nature trails was an absolute nightmare because there were a lot campervans, tents and general traffic parked up for days then mounds of rubbish and waste left over as they disappeared. I'm sort of dreading not being able to enjoy our area again this year too.

BUT it did wonders for our local economy and we get to enjoy the peace when everything dies down again. I dread to think what impact it would've had if no one has came!

No - it's 3 months early for overnight stays.

For a reason.

We are still in a lockdown.[/quote]
Yes, but it’s relaxing soon. No sign of another one after rules change. A few days makes no difference and people should be able to get on with their lives now regardless. We’ve all had enough.

RevolvingPivot · 27/03/2021 07:36

I thought it was illegal to stay away for the night bnb / cottage / lodge until 12 April I think people are being a bit harsh.

No - the government get to decide who is welcome at the moment.

And when.

Yeah I'm a bit surprised by the responses.

I just hope this isn't being repeated in every tourist town in the UK.

There will be no 3rd wave here. We got our act together vaccine wise unlike our mainland counterparts.

QuidditchQueen · 27/03/2021 07:38

Move to an ugly industrial town in essex like me then you wouldn't have to worry about things like this grin

Good on them for not waiting for‘permission’ to go to their own property!

Who cares anymore though? Just let people live their lives.

Sounds like some people have decided to stay in their second home and some others have done their own risk assessment in possession of all the personal circumstances we know nothing about and visit a relative.

MargosKaftan · 27/03/2021 07:39

Fun fact, you have been allowed to move house throughout this lockdown and you have been allowed to stay over night with someone if you were providing care. They could be granny's care or moving in with her.

From Monday you can travel to 2nd homes, but frankly that was only set on Monday as Johnson made his dates announcement on a Monday. 2 days won't make much difference, except areas with high numbers of 2nd homes will be heaving on Monday, so sensible to travel today.

If you choose to live in a tourist hotspot, surely you should expect this?

IndecentFeminist · 27/03/2021 07:39

Second home owners are allowed from Monday.

Archersandlemonade · 27/03/2021 07:39

Thought we could stay at someone one house for may 17th - domestic overnight stays?

To think it has started
HugeAckmansWife · 27/03/2021 07:41

The screenshot posted above seems to suggest its OK from the 29th but honestly, at this stage, quibbling over a few days or even weeks is just nimby bollocks. Covid is not the only thing that life is about.. It never was and certainly isn't now.

MiddleParking · 27/03/2021 07:41

Yeah I'm a bit surprised by the responses.

Ugh you people are so arrogant. Not only do you want to appoint yourselves in charge but you’ve got the nerve to be surprised when people tell you to pack it in rather than lapping it up.
