Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

The world has gone mad. Please take a photo of your op and look back on it in a couple of years. Bonkers

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:10

@Silvercatowner

Such drama. Honestly OP you aren't in a Hollywood blockbuster.
It would be a pretty boring one tbh

The amount of people we're expecting this summer - not sure we would miss you

The royal “we.” The op, speaking for the town. 😂

PandaFluff · 27/03/2021 08:11

@Graciebobcat

Why are people bothering going anywhere at Easter? All that has changed is people can meet up to six others outside and open air sport is allowed. Big deal. Nothing else is open, what's the point?
So they can see their family
@oohmamama I'm allowed whenever I like, I own it, there is no legal definition of "second home" in UK law, I've "stayed home" in whichever home I wanted to.

Do you honestly want to live in a world where the government can legally dictate to you that you cannot enter your own property? Get a grip will you.
That's an interesting interpretation of the law.

OP, whether or not it is a second home or not, overnight stays are not permitted in England until 12 April.

Either report them to the police, or visit them and give them time to leave (say a few hours to pack up) and if they refuse, report. Don't just whinge on here, act.

The gran's house could be a legitimate support bubble so different.

Dunkindonuts8 · 27/03/2021 08:12

Going shopping with two children OP? I hope that was entirely necessary and you couldnt have found childcare for them or arranged a home delivery. How about you mind your own business in your beautiful Seaside town in the SW and everyone else will do the same.

Tottington · 27/03/2021 08:12

Covid Bingo:
I'm a "critical" worker
Been vaccinated
Daily tests
Live in a beautiful rural-coastal part of the SW

I'm taking my kids to stay with my parents over the Easter holiday (starts good Friday). They live 200 miles away. I'm sure I'm breaking some rules but I have no idea what else I'm supposed to do for childcare over the school holiday.

We're all very excited about seeing my parents.

The only thing that'll piss me off about the tourists is the bloody M5 traffic when I'm trying to get back home and to work!

pollylocketpickedapocket · 27/03/2021 08:12
@Finfintytint

We are still in a lockdown.
Well why were you taking your two kids shopping? You know, if you’re such a stickler for the rules?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 27/03/2021 08:13

@User133847

The rules were specifically kept until the 12th to stop people taking the piss at Easter. Alas, some people are too special to follow the rules.
The 12th is the start of the second week of Easter holidays here

Sorry, apologies Bluntness.

The amount of people the 'town' are expecting.

Hmm

@oohmamama

I apologise if 'beautiful seaside town' has offended people. I was merely setting the scene. And yes - I'd be pissed off it it was a grimy city centre but I guess it's less likely to happen there.
It's amazing that when someone's granny needs support from the whole family it's always in a beautiful seaside town, never a grimy city centre Wink
EileenGC · 27/03/2021 08:13

You keep following the law blindly OP. Don’t interpret it differently than what someone tells you on the TV.

The rest of us will keep making our own informed decisions whilst - shock horror - we also protect others around us. Some of us want to live. Like I said, it doesn’t sound like your life has been majorly disrupted. You were lucky in that respect. I want to start living again.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:14

@pollylocketpickedapocket

I believe you are allowed to if you have no childcare? Correct me if I'm wrong?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 27/03/2021 08:14

Please tell us what town it is. Bet it’s somewhere utterly rubbish 😂

jessstan2 · 27/03/2021 08:14

Mind your own.

Angrymum22 · 27/03/2021 08:15

Blueeyedgirl you’re spot on, my sister lives in the SW and you have described her perfectly.
We have just sold our second home, not in the SW, it will now become a family home. It was an inherited property and we were using it less and less so it was time to get rid of it. After 30 years I’m looking forward to a change of scenery. It was great while the children were growing up but now they no longer want to holiday with us we are planning lots of adventures as a couple.

So maybe the people you saw were also visiting for childcare?? 😂

jessstan2 · 27/03/2021 08:15

Good for business I would have thought.
As long as they mask up when going out it should be OK.
Gran is possibly already vaccinated.

OverTheRubicon · 27/03/2021 08:16

@flamingflamingos

Oh fuck off OP. I legally own my second home in a "beautiful seaside village" and if I want to go there, I will go there.

People like you are the reason there is no community spirit left with your greedy selfish "my town" mentality.

To be fair, it's actually people like you owning second homes and forcing local families to move to the outskirts that are the reason that many seaside towns have no community spirit, or actively resent outsiders.
PrintempsAhoy · 27/03/2021 08:16

I am not breaking the law myself (yet) but happy enough to see other people relax a bit

I’ve reached the end of the line with lockdowns

Not sure why you’re getting such a hard time here OP - overnight stays at second homes aren’t allowed until 12 April Hmm

The loophole allowing travel to second homes from 29 March applies where the home is abroad - you can travel to it to prepare it for sale.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:17

@Blueeyedgirl21

As I said - it's beautiful. Has its own issues - some drug and alcohol problems as a lot of places on the coast do - but it's got a harbour and some lovely shops/cafes.

Cold and wet in the winter but lovely in the summer when it comes alive.

Won't name it as it would be outing but I'm not a villain @Blueeyedgirl21. I'm just concerned about people breaking the rules because it matters to me.

I hope you live somewhere that makes you happy too Smile
