Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

@CornishTiger

Well it was always going to happen. We are expecting appearances of early birds.

The local GP has moved to critical health care needs only again. The supermarket stocks aren’t ready for this.

I’m welcoming of tourism but in line with the government restrictions. Pleased to see you but please still follow social distancing.

Well said Smile

OP you appear to be following your own made up rules. Overnight stays are allowed from May 17th.

CornishTiger · 27/03/2021 07:56

If the gran is a single adult household she can have a support bubble

Toottootdrivers · 27/03/2021 07:56

My mum lives alone in a "lovely seaside town". We're her support bubble and have gone to stay overnight several times,as it's too far for a day trip. All completely legal.

Pinotwoman82 · 27/03/2021 07:57

The second wave was in November, where it slowed for a while but then because everyone had to just meet at Christmas we had a third deadly wave.

EileenGC · 27/03/2021 07:57

For a reason.

I’d love to hear what that reason is.

Granny probably lives alone and they have formed a support bubble. One of the parents might be suffering from something and needs a change of scenery, and their whole family with them. The mum could be a victim of domestic abuse and going into someone else’s house for a week could mean she avoids a few beatings. They might all have had a first dose of the vaccine and tested negative before making the trip. Does their presence there affect you negatively? Then I don’t understand what the fuss is all about. It’s about time people start making their own informed decisions. Sticking to the rules, to the day, won’t make you avoid Covid more than them.

People can come from Monday, if the supermarkets haven't prepped that's surely their poor planning.
Blueeyedgirl21 · 27/03/2021 07:58

Off topic but why are aussies so weirdly excited about Uk having bad covid rates? Foaming at the mouth at our rubbish leadership and lockdowns etc. Our vaccination progress is amazing now and our population density is so much higher than Aus, and the climate means hardly any outdoor living, kids packed in classrooms etc, is it any wonder the rates were so much worse here, no, it’s mostly situational not because Australians are some sort of magically covid resistant Nation.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 27/03/2021 07:58

Tell you what
We'll stay away from your pretty little towns
If you stay away from my big city
Last summer we had all of this from people in touristy bits of wales
Middle of Cardiff was utterly rammed with tourists all summer
Seems it only works one way
And most of the people moaning about tourists either work from home or have sat on their furloughed arses for the last year
Bet they aren't running businesses and watching their life's work and savings disappearing desperate to get some work and earnings
Fear not for you pretty little seaside town
As soon as most of us can we'll be heading somewhere hot and sunny

BillyIsMyBunny · 27/03/2021 07:59

Is the gran living alone? If so she can firm mien a support bubble with the other household meaning they are allowed to stay.

Staying in second homes is allowed from Monday so I couldn’t get too worked up about them coming now, 48 hours isn’t likely to make a lot of difference.

Sorry got that wrong - that's still 6 weeks away...

Travel was allowed last summer.

EileenGC · 27/03/2021 08:00

Rules is rules.

Again - for a reason.

Ah I see... Rules is rules Hmm I guess you’re one of those people whose life hasn’t been majorly disrupted and you still love sticking to the rules. Good for you OP. I too stick to the rules but couldn’t get worked up about someone going to visit their gran. And I can’t wait for when they’re lifted or I decide I’ve had enough and break some.

SerialSpringCleaner · 27/03/2021 08:01

This really pi$$es me off. I lived overseas for many years and was repeatedly told that I wasn't a local, when was I going back to my own country, etc.

When I moved back here I told myself that this is my home and I will go where I like and not answer to anyone. Well, covid put a stop to that but not for much longer.

OP, do you own your own house? Well, if you do that is the extent of your property. You don't own your village and your streets. Mind your own business.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 27/03/2021 08:01

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than go to the SW after reading posts on here, honestly makes it sound like a place full of snobs and insular are you local types, the scenery isn’t even that good, we will be visiting family in the highlands this summer - better than being packed in being judged paying £5 for an ice cream in Devon

Happy to stay away from Cardiff TBF.

And I've worked as a teacher throughout so not been sat on my arse too much, although not sure why it would matter if I had.

I agree
Oversize · 27/03/2021 08:02

I heard the same attitude this week from a colleague who chose to move to one of the touristy seaside towns in Wales. It beggars belief.

EileenGC · 27/03/2021 08:02

@Blueeyedgirl21

The same reason why the UK are weirdly excited about the EU’s slow vaccine rollout. And don’t tell me you’re not, it’s all over Mumsnet (albeit not so prevalent in real life thank goodness). It’s called nationalistic pride. Or another word that will get my post deleted if I use it.

MiddleParking · 27/03/2021 08:03

If following the rules is now considered arrogant then yup - that's me!

Follow them all you like, no one cares. Trying to police other people’s adherence to them (when you don’t even know what they are) is what’s arrogant.

GoWalkabout · 27/03/2021 08:03

Chile are ahead of us on 1st and 2nd vaccines and their cases and deaths are rising currently. We need to play this cautiously or we will blow our presumed advantage.

Of course the supermarkets are ready. Do you think they haven't been preparing for this? 🙄 There have been normal stocks of everything since last May time.
HugeAckmansWife · 27/03/2021 08:03

I don't know why people keep saying 'look wha happened last summer'. We now have a vaccine. The most vulnerable are protected, the NHS is protected from the risk of being overwhelmed. Cases will never be gone. We will not and never could have got rid of this., no matter how hard we locked down. The only restriction I think is sensible now other than general SD measures is foreign travel.

Dailywalk · 27/03/2021 08:04

@mygenericusername

There will be no 3rd wave here. We got our act together vaccine wise unlike our mainland counterparts.
I hope you’re right but there’s still under 50s to vaccinate and if we allow holidays abroad before they’re all done we do risk a huge, third wave.
oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:04

The amount of people we're expecting this summer - not sure we would miss you.
