Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

@thetemptationofchocolate

I too am in the SW. I live in a tiny place but there is one holiday home here. Recently there were people in said holiday home and someone here (not sure who) reported them to the police who paid a visit to the holiday home & sent the people away.
Good They clearly didn’t have a good reason to be there so why should arrogant tossers like that get away with not following the rules when the rest of us are
Dowser · 27/03/2021 13:22

@Alsohuman

Luck would come into making masks compulsory for years because only a very small minority would comply. We’re not Asia and the British character is very different.
Well I did think the Brits were different but the alacrity to comply has astounded even cynical old me.

Maybe some of us have been put together differently. I was designed to run on oxygen and fresh air , so have stuck to that..but this year I realised there was a altogether different breed who ran on recycled breath and carbon dioxide.

Who’d have thunk it?

WouldBeGood · 27/03/2021 13:24

Nearly everyone I know and bump into wears a mask as required, but all are united in the view they’ll go straight in the bin as soon as possible.

Dowser · 27/03/2021 13:25

I wonder if we can snuck into our second home without the site owner knowing we are there...
Hmmm..doubt it.

Memo to oneself , next time you buy a static caravan , buy some land to put it on .👍
Preferably well away from prying eyes .

Alsohuman · 27/03/2021 13:26

Compliance hasn’t really surprised me @Dowser. Around here there’s a binary choice: wear a mask or stay out of shops. It’s tolerated because it’s temporary, it would never be tolerated permanently.

So just see her.
You’d never forgive yourself if she passed away
There’s a lot worse things than the fear of getting covid...loneliness is a killer
My dentist and I pave had 7 visits since they reopened, said his elderly patients look like they’ve aged 10 years.

So wrong.[/quote]
Fortunately she’s not too lonely because she has my brother visiting, and she’s in frequent contact with many friends via Facebook, text, phone etc. Of course I don’t want her to die without having seen her! But I also don’t want to risk giving her covid: I have children in two different schools and although the risk is probably quite low the results could be catastrophic if I were an asymptomatic spreader. And she doesn’t want to take that risk either.

Or in a very large park with lots of locations. There's one around here that's huge and has year-round lodges some locals live in and people just come and go on it. Whatever.
Dowser · 27/03/2021 13:36

@AnaofBroceliande
To be fair, our owner is very kind,
I thought we were going to have to ask if we could go and stay yesterday as we had no water and he’d have been more than happy but a call to the water board meant we’d been switched off by mistake.
Shame.
I wouldn’t have minded two nights in N Yorks doing a bit of flocking and flouting

Coyoacan · 27/03/2021 13:39

Rules are rules

It is interesting how the same people who adore the rules in the next breathe complaint about some rules such as Maybe we should have another Eat out to Help Out?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2021 13:41

I don’t understand what you mean. Are you asking if an AZ jab can be boosted with a Pfizer one? I don’t know the answer to that, they work in different ways. As I understand it, Pfizer works against variants because of how it makes your immune response. But even if you can swap, the issue is getting it out there.

I actually meant the updated AZ vaccine. As I thought the issue was we wouldn’t be finished with current round by Autumn. If new vaccine supply is ready but some people still need second dose we could move to that.

I have seen posts that you can use Pfizer for second so I reckon you could use tweaked AZ.

1forAll74 · 27/03/2021 13:41

It's fine, I am looking forward to seeing all the traffic jams on the motorways, and the police out in force,it will all be on the news, so I can view in peace at home, I hope all places will have enough toilets to cope with everyone,

marabond · 27/03/2021 13:42

Wow this thread is batshit, not so long ago bread & milk wasn't an essential to leave your home for! 🤣
OP you have incurred the wrath of 2nd home owners who have likely had a vaccine so screw everyone else. Hilarious that some are calling you arrogant whilst simultaneously stressing how important is is for the peasants in these areas that the 2nd home owners come & throw some crumbs around 🤦🏻‍♀️

Try not to snog any of them. Stay indoors, windows shut just in case Grin

You were also designed to read and understand science, but something obviously went wrong there. Masks do not restrict oxygen.

Yes, I would assume the booster could be used as a second dose, but I’m not sure how much that would help as you will still have millions who have had the second dose needing to be called again.

Using Pfizer/AZ as a mix is only to happen as a last resort , as I understand it.

We’ll see but I don’t think we’ve seen full capacity yet due to supply.

Also various alternatives are being trialled which could really help if we can self administer

I can’t read it on phone so can’t see dates but nasal spray here plus patches elsewhere

Why not look at the previous post about sticking to the rules,? You'll find very different attitudes there.Everyone answering this is obviously a sanctimonious second homer.

We had a greek holiday rolled over from last year which it looks like we won't be able to go on again this year, so I have scouring the internet for somewhere I'd like to go in this country and, you'll be pleased to hear @oohmamama I have to admit that I have discounted the West country too. Having read all the posts on here over the last year I don't have any desire to ever go to the West country again tbh.

We have booked a week in a lodge on the edge of a Loch in Scotland :)

EllsBells01 · 27/03/2021 14:05

@oohmamama none of it matters now that schools are open with 1000+ under one roof and no one social distancing...

Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 14:07

Exactly. Strange how people who are probably quick to call others snowflakes can make such a lot of fuss about a piece of cloth that helps you keep your germs to yourself. Apart from getting Covid last March thanks to Boris’s failure to lockdown London when it was raging through and infecting 1.5m of us and a persisting long Covid rash and ear pain it’s been the healthiest year in this household, no colds, no flu. I sincerely hope the cultural norm of going out when ill and spreading your germs to as many people as possible has had its day ..........

Interestingly they are studying mixing pfizer with AZ to see if that gives increased immunity because it is slightly different. Will be fascinating to know if that is a viable case.

Hope you are going to Scotland when the midge population is not in full force, saves you crunching on them every time you open your mouth.
Emilyontmoor · 27/03/2021 14:17

@oohmamama none of it matters now that schools are open with 1000+ under one roof and no one social distancing... Oh but cases are not rising / stopped falling because schools went back, someone upthread says so..Hmm

However that is not how virus suppression works. It is like a series of leaky sieves, none perfect but scientifically proven to have a benefit and all put together they reduce transmission. Just because you take one leaky sieve away doesn’t mean there is no point to the rest... And I am very annoyed that the government has chosen to take that leaky sieve away but leave me with all the rest that affect my and my family’s life in place, including only having seen my parents once this year. Doesn’t mean I am going to ignore them

bewilderedhedgehog · 27/03/2021 14:23

Not a second home owner - just saying! But after all the vitriol last year, there are quite a few of us who won't be cluttering up the SW by coming on holiday - not this year, not next and not the year after either. There are other parts of the UK which have a kinder approach I think, and we'll try that.
