To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 09:56

They don't seem to go to work, have five cars; a range rover, a mercedes, a BMW, an audi and a truck type thing.
A couple in their thirties with one child, renting the property in what is predominantly owner occupied road.

I'm going to get jumped on here, but they look rough, for want of a better word.

Am I being a twat for presuming they are drug dealers or money launderers/something else a bit unsavoury?

Well, no its a WC/LMC area so most people are nurses, teachers/TAs, paramedics, retail staff, postal workers, bus drivers, care assistants, foster carers etc.

With average combined incomes of £60k where there are two working adults? Blimey.

Bunnybigears · 25/03/2021 23:30

@youvegottenminuteslynn I'm glad its not just me, care assistants must be desperate to move where OP lives if it means they earn 30 grand a year! I was beginning to think I must have missed a huge minimum wage increase and should be contacting my boss for a pay rise!

DumplingsAndStew · 25/03/2021 23:39

I don't know wtf is going on at @MNHQ

I've reported this twice today - once this morning and once this evening. Both times they've said someone will look at it, then no further response.

Apparently this sort of judgemental cuntishness is what they want to represent Mumsnet. Either that, or this is a troll.

Whichever, says a lot!

EvaporatedHour · 25/03/2021 23:40

I don't think you're being unreasonable to be suspicious, OP.

A couple in our village had several expensive cars, loads of designer clothes, the woman had had lots of plastic surgery and fillers, and neither of them worked. Oh and they also had a holiday home in Spain that they were very vocal about.

Turned out they were drug dealing! Their house was raided during the night and there was footage of it on the regional newspaper website. Their kids were temporarily taken into care. The woman was not charged as far as I know but the bloke is currently serving a prison sentence.

So it does happen. I can't understand why people are saying to just mind your own business and so what if they're drug dealers, when drug dealers are total scum and deserve to get found out and to go to prison. There's no 'Awww let them live their life' about it.

Ok so I'm clinical lead nurse and my OH is a civil servant.
next door is a fireman and a carer.
next door but one a nurse and a delivery driver.
Over the road a teacher and a TA.
next door to them a foster carer and a car salesman.
directly opposite a paramedic and a pharmacy tech.

Nobody who is actually MC lives here, I'd say its mainly the WC who have been to uni/entered a profession and their spouses.

Its slightly disingenous to equate being WC with deprivation of any kind, but that's another thread entirely, surely?

When you say they look rough OP do you mean like this:

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 23:49

@EvaporatedHour

Yes, of course you're right and it happens quite a lot.
My OH is from a deprived background/area and it was he who initially mentioned it.
He grew up with the local drug dealer and his flash cars in a rented house. Tbh I just didn't expect it to land on my doorstep.

And tbf I have no definitive proof as yet that it has, hence the speculation.
OH is wholly convinced though, as were the appliance fitters.

I guess I will keep watching them and keep the gardening and coding practice on the back burner for now Smile

@skirk64

Get a covert CCTV camera that covers their property. Make sure it "accidentally" covers their house, don't be blatant about it. That way you can get evidence of their illegal behaviour.

The police won't do anything based on suspicion alone, I know that too well. I reported my neighbour for dealing drugs outside but nothing happened to him. (He was blatant about it, he'd "shake hands" with the customer then look at (the money in) his hand, then his girlfriend would "shake hands" while passing a small bag of powder to the customer.) To be fair to him he had a stealing-to-order business as well, his lifestyle wasn't just funded by drugs alone.

An entrepreneur 😁

Or is it more like this?

To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?
ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 23:50

@DogsAreShit

No, sadly much flabbier.

Yes, it's definitely other people being disingenuous on this thread. Not you 😂

@Sparklesocks

Gardening Cooking new recipes Learning a new language Learning to code

Just some of the pastimes which are more fulfilling than being a sad curtain twitcher taking notes on the neighbours Grin

Nope Nope Nope Nope

This is way more fun

DogsAreShit · 25/03/2021 23:58

Lots of dealers shift their rocks using Sara Lee gateaux. It's a common ruse.

For skunk, it tends to be more your prawn rings.

Yes its totally me being disingenuous when nobody on MN ever alludes to wanting their DC to enter any of those professions, because after all they aren't really prifessions in the real sense of the term ie MC enough Confused

Sorry MN, but you can't have your cake and eat it.

Damn you @DogsAreShit now I'm hungry 😂.

DogsAreShit · 26/03/2021 00:10

Got the munchies aye aye @Giantrooster? 👀

ilovesooty · 26/03/2021 00:12

I spent 8 years working in drug intervention and offender management. The fact that the OP seemingly expects people to find this 1. believable or 2. amusing is quite puzzling really.

DogsAreShit · 26/03/2021 00:14

I'm right about the prawn rings though aren't I @ilovesooty?

Yes you need to keep them under proper surveillance and note any people coming and going and how often and how long they spend there.

Then report back here please.

Flaxmeadow · 26/03/2021 00:56

You do know most drug dealers (the successful ones anyway) go out of their way to not look like drug dealers.

Yes I was thinking that

Car dealers OP?
