To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 09:56

They don't seem to go to work, have five cars; a range rover, a mercedes, a BMW, an audi and a truck type thing.
A couple in their thirties with one child, renting the property in what is predominantly owner occupied road.

I'm going to get jumped on here, but they look rough, for want of a better word.

Am I being a twat for presuming they are drug dealers or money launderers/something else a bit unsavoury?

OP posts:
Miasicarisatia · 25/03/2021 17:10

they sound rough as arses and dodgy as fu(k but everyone knows that the drug dealer mode of transport these days is the bicycle👀

GoddessKali · 25/03/2021 17:13

There’s a really shitty cheap rental house opposite me - yet the family were driving a brand new Range Rover, so it did seem odd.
Then I realised the bloke was my ex (from 20 yes ago) and it turned out they do property development but rent a dirt cheap house close by.

But I do like the idea of a family of drug dealers Grin

TeachesOfPeaches · 25/03/2021 17:14

I grew up on a council estate and my neighbour had 5 cars on the driveway including an ice cream van. her dad got 20 years for heroin dealing. We also had a £20k car paid in cash, my dad was a gambler and illegal debt collector

Miasicarisatia · 25/03/2021 17:18

my dad was a gambler and illegal debt collector
Does that mean he was a collector of debts that were illegal or that he collected debts via illegal methods?

TeachesOfPeaches · 25/03/2021 17:21

Loan shark basically. No drugs involved.

Divebar2021 · 25/03/2021 17:23

Everyone knows what “rough” looks like. Everyone. If there’s a rough family at your kids school you all know who it is and I guess mostly give them a wide berth. It’s nothing to do with not having make up on when you nip to the bins. The people I know who I would describe as rough don't “ work from home” - certainly not in the modern “ you’re on mute” sense. So people can be “ holier than thou” about it but if such a family moved into my street with loads of flashy cars they’d stand out a mile. I guess you’ll never answer the question but it’s interesting to speculate.

Elai1978 · 25/03/2021 17:26

@JackieWeaver in addition to random cars I also run friends’ through it from time to time. Handy though, as a couple of years ago I had to text a friend to suggest he might want to check his MOT out as it had expired 6 mths previously!

hellcatspangle · 25/03/2021 17:27

Well loads of people are wfh so that doesn't tell you much. They could be currently having a house built, or have moved out and are waiting to move into their dream home that's stuck in a chain? He might be a car salesman?

Giantrooster · 25/03/2021 17:31

I bet they are mechanics buying cars cheaply (and soon they will be making money from their swinger club. Beware of the pampas grass).

And bloody hell, Iceland deliveries. You need to put your house on the marked before the neighborhood deteriorates further 🤣.

Totally! Everyone knows the type of people the OP is talking about but don't want to seem bitchy or judgy as is said on MN 😆
AllesAusLiebe · 25/03/2021 17:59

OP, I'm going to defend your post here.

Years ago, we moved to a reasonably nice area. It didn't take long before I noticed that there was something odd about our opposite neighbours. Similarly to your observations of your neighbours - flash cars, odd behaviour, no evidence of either of them going out to work. . . They just stood out from the rest of our neighbours.

I noticed a lot of coming and going from the property and weird things like the curtains being closed in the middle of the day. My husband thought I was crazy but I knew there was something wrong.

Years later a friend of ours told us that he'd picked them up numerous times in his taxi and was certain that they were completing drop offs. He recalled one occasion where they were blatantly discussing their actions in the back of the cab.

Sometimes you just KNOW when something isn't right.

@MNHQ - do you really find this thread to be "In the Spirit" of your site? 🙄

If they aren't going out to work....how are they drug dealing Blush

Apparently

BlueCherryBlossom · 25/03/2021 18:45

This thread is about snobbery, and NIMBYism.

Not saying I wouldn't be as judgemental as the OP (and I'd be equally tempted to post 'they might work from home/new to area/inheritance) but let's see this thread for what it is- criticism of others' choices/tastes.

Either way, 'drug dealer' is a bit of a leap.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/03/2021 18:46

Of course they most likely have one of those dodgy occupations 🤷‍♀️

Only fans/instagrammer/drug dealer, producer/loan shark...

I’m surprised too.

3D printing? 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP won’t let facts get in the way of a good old bitch.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/03/2021 18:51

Loads of people get drugs posted to them

notmethenwho · 25/03/2021 18:59

Five cars is a bit excessive but Op you sound like a (I can't finish this sentence, I might get a MN ban and then what would I do with my time?! Ah! I could always go round canvassing my neighbours to find out their jobs Smile)

StripedLeopard · 25/03/2021 19:00

This is brilliant. They have their shopping delivered from Iceland 😂

traintrain · 25/03/2021 19:04

OP I lived opposite a similar family. Never went to work, always had a new car every few months which was way out of proportion with the house they were living in. Always on holiday. Rough and you wouldn’t want to cross them.

They got raided a few days before we moved out. So everyone might take the piss here but you’re probably right.

Jillybons · 25/03/2021 19:07

Also they might be testing out the area to see if they like it, or potentially even riding the market out if they assume an imminent property price crash post COVID.

RickiTarr · 25/03/2021 19:08

Grin @notmethenwho
