To presume that drug dealers have moved in over the road?

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 09:56

They don't seem to go to work, have five cars; a range rover, a mercedes, a BMW, an audi and a truck type thing.
A couple in their thirties with one child, renting the property in what is predominantly owner occupied road.

I'm going to get jumped on here, but they look rough, for want of a better word.

Am I being a twat for presuming they are drug dealers or money launderers/something else a bit unsavoury?

My sister is married to a millionaire. She drives a huge Mercesdes but she still has a broad South Yorkshire accent and shops at Primark. They would look like those people to you.

jessstan2 · 25/03/2021 22:04

@traintrain

OP I lived opposite a similar family. Never went to work, always had a new car every few months which was way out of proportion with the house they were living in. Always on holiday. Rough and you wouldn’t want to cross them.

They got raided a few days before we moved out. So everyone might take the piss here but you’re probably right.

Did they ever actually do you any harm?
jessstan2 · 25/03/2021 22:09

@StripedLeopard

This is brilliant. They have their shopping delivered from Iceland 😂
So do I sometimes. I order my groceries from everywhere. Last week it was Sainsbury's, week before Ocado, frequently from Tesco, Asda and Waitrose; today the Co-op. I enjoy shopping around online. I didn't realise there was snob value in shopping from Iceland, must do it more often! They do a lovely corned beef hash, you can't get that everywhere and sometimes I really fancy it.
jessstan2 · 25/03/2021 22:16

Do you know something, I honestly never notice neighbours. I know the people either side who have been my neighbours for years but absolutely nobody else, and not opposite. I've occasionally noted a 'For Sale' sign opposite and imagine there have been a few different occupiers over the years but I would not recognise any of them, or their cars. My husband would have noticed the cars but he was a petrol head.

Why can't people mind their own business, live and let live.

There are all sorts of reasons for renting a house, it may only be temporary. I wonder if the op has welcomed her new neighbours, after all they don't know she is suspicious of them.

Rno3gfr · 25/03/2021 22:20

We moved to a new area a month ago and thought one of our new neighbours was a prostitute. She had people turning up throughout the night in fairly nice cars during lockdown. Turns out she’s a hairdresser working from home “illegally”.

Bunnybigears · 25/03/2021 22:21

You do know most drug dealers (the successful ones anyway) go out of their way to not look like drug dealers. Are you a drug dealer OP?

jessstan2 · 25/03/2021 22:22

@redtshirt50

I also probably look 'rough' 99% of the time when I'm in my own home too
Me too. Nice innit?

I also have a Porsche in my drive and did have a Ferrari too, both 30+ years old but generated interest from delivery people. Husband was in a car club and competed in classic car rallies. When he was alive he drove a Range Rover. My son now has the Ferrari, it sits in his back yard most of the time, he uses his BMW for normal travelling. I will sell the Porsche this year if someone can get it started or tow it.

FFS don't make face-value judgements.

JanewaysBun · 25/03/2021 22:23

I think you're right.@bunnybigears

Who's the last person to go around accusing people of being drug dealers? Why the drug dealer themself!

jessstan2 · 25/03/2021 22:24

@ChelseeDagger

Bloody hell OF COURSE its not affecting my life!

What is AIBU for if not exactly this type of post?!?

Well you've got your answers.
ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 22:24

@supersonicginandtonic
Honestly with the greatest of repect to your sister, yes I would wonder about her and her millionaire husband renting in a road which is broadly WC and where the average household income is loosely in the region of 60K. I would think it very odd indeed.

Anyway I asked the appliance fitter men, no idea why its notable that I should do so but then I'd also let them use the loo if they needed to, so I'm comfortable with being gulity off the odd MN faux pas.

They more or less agreed its most likely drugs, given the area, the cars and their general appearance.
One of them said "Oh why do they always do that? The cars just make them look so 'on top' they will have the bizzies there in no time and then they will just grass everyone up and get their windows put through'
Delightful.

He went on to day that 'the best' dealer Hmm he ever knew of drove a ten year old ford focus, but always looked like a 'top man' and had houses all over a very smart part of the city'

Every day's a school day I suppose.

If they have 5 cars, it's quite likely they hold positions which can easily be done from home. Crikey.

Or they're making meth.

Well, if theyre a couple, with 5 expensive cars between 2 of them, , they probably aren't legit. But is your road all massive 5+ bed detatched houses or a row of terraces tho?
ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 22:36

its 3-5 bed terraces, worth in the region of between 200-340K depending on size, outdoor space and overall condition.

Theirs is a mid terrace with three bedrooms and no driveway.

Wow that is possible the most out of touch thing I have heard in a while. You do realise working class people do not have a combined income of 60k?!

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 23:01

They do, most people have a dual income household and 30K is a decidedly WC wage. multiply that by two.

I didn't say it was a deprived area at all, it isn't, its rather nice but nevertheless decidedly WC/LMC at a push.

OP posts:
adrien · 25/03/2021 23:05

Lol this could have been about me but we have a drivewayGrin

Renting only because of bad credit from years ago. So renting while building my credit up.
Oh and I don't appear to work either because I run a blog that makes thousands a month and I get paid to promote on insta too! New generation ey.

You don't have a clue what they do but let me tell you, you don't need to be a drug dealer to earn good moneyWink

Bunnybigears · 25/03/2021 23:06

Wow ok then guess me and all my friends, colleagues and family members must not be working class despite us all having two income households and earning higher than minimum wage we don't have a household income of £60 grand. I hate to think what you would class us as! Maybe we should become drug dealers instead then we could have 5 cars and a higher income.

adrien · 25/03/2021 23:06

@ChelseeDagger

They also have their groceries delivered by Iceland, not Sainsburys like the rest of us.....
Grin hahahahaha
livinlavida2021 · 25/03/2021 23:07

Okay this couldn't have been me lmao.

Maybe they own a sunbed shop somewhere? She does webcam or something

ChelseeDagger · 25/03/2021 23:11

@Bunnybigears

Sorry, what? You must not be WC because you don't earn 60k?
If it makes you feel any better, its closer to a limit than a target. Hence why I said the neighbourhood possibly edges towards the MC, still not five flash cars territory by any means.

OP posts:
OwlBeThere · 25/03/2021 23:13

Yes. You are.

meganjoon · 25/03/2021 23:17

Maybe if you stop shopping at Sainsbury's and start taking a leaf out their book and get those Iceland deliveries in, you may also be able to get the cars tooGrin

Stoppissingonmyheather · 25/03/2021 23:19

Iceland??!!!! Omg I would get a petition and send it to their landlord whatever next

Swoonforpeterbishop · 25/03/2021 23:20

You do know it’s a global pandemic and over half the country is working from home right now?
I look pretty rough most days at the moment, as does my house as it needs work but we have two nice cars outside. I wonder if my neighbours make judgements like you do
