Aibu?

Went to a local garden centre with my mum which sells pet products. Had my mums 17 week old puppy with me. Walked around the outside part first and puppy did two wees on the grass. Took him inside and he decided to do another wee. Very embarrassed as he had already done 2 and wouldnt have let him walk inside if he hadn't recently done. Anyway, my mum went off to the toilets to get some loo roll, both dry to clean up and wet to wash the area. Then I went to find a member of staff to see if they had any anti bac spray I could use. Rather than giving me some, I was told to take the dog out as it wasn't trustworthy. Explained he had already done 2 wees so this wasn't expected. Was still told to leave and the dog was banned from the place. This was a small independent garden centre not a big chain company. Oh the offending dog? A chihuahua!

Aibu to think if you sell pet products, it's expected people will bring their dogs in (signs say dogs welcome) and occasional their maybe be a accident.

The Dogs Welcome sign is probably for assistance/seeing eye dogs to put their disabled owners at ease and not for fandoms who drag family pets out shopping with them.
@DorisLessingsCat toilet trained children have accidents as well sometimes, like dogs they’re not perfect. I used to work in a shop and have often had to clean up wee and vomit from children, sometimes it can’t be helped, we didn’t ban them from the store.
Why do you keep comparing dogs and children like they are equal?

MidsummersNightie · 24/03/2021 19:44

Who could be so annoyed at a 17 week old chihuahua?!

Me. I could. If it pissed on my floor.

Reinventinganna · 24/03/2021 19:44

You should get one of those ridiculous bags that people carry small dogs in.

@FloraFauna27

Some people don't have children and see dogs as family. Is that OK with you?

Ps, children doing it is worse because they can communicate. Dogs can't.

minniemoocher · 24/03/2021 19:50

Yabu you don't take dogs inside public places until they are potty trained!

If that’s how people feel, that’s fine by me.

To compare the two as if they are equal though, is ridiculous. Dogs are animals. As much as you may love your ‘fur babies’, it isn’t anywhere near the equivalent of, you know, an actual human.

Not all children can.

Bunnyfuller · 24/03/2021 19:52

Seriously?! You’re actually asking if it’s ok for your puppy to piss inside a public building?!

Lolwhat · 24/03/2021 19:52

YABU, you should be carrying small pups if they aren’t house trained yet.

minniemoocher · 24/03/2021 19:55

Ps pets at home are brilliant about accidents, and male dogs, even well trained ones, tend to scent mark due to their canine clients having aforementioned indiscretions. Stick to ultra dog friendly until older (John Lewis for instance started allowing dogs but I would not trust my dog not to leave hair on things!)

RootyT00t · 24/03/2021 20:04

@SquirtleSquad obviously.

But dogs can't either.

Your point ?

This. YABU. Ugh

That dogs are not people. They are animals, however much you may love them.

ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 24/03/2021 20:05

I'm being pedantic but "17 weeks"... That's four months right? Does anyone count that long. I didn't even with my babies (which are different to dogs BTW)

RootyT00t · 24/03/2021 20:06

Didn't say they were flora.

oakleaffy · 24/03/2021 20:07

Keep any dog not iron clad continent outside.
No shop is going to want animals urinating on their premises.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/03/2021 20:07

After the dog weed you should have taken it outside without being asked.

HotelCaliforniaOnRepeat · 24/03/2021 20:12

I work in a dog friendly pub with guest rooms. We would love for for a) cleaning up b) telling us c) asking for decent cleaning stuff
You would really not believe the way some dog owners behave 😡 although some parents are no better.
If you accept pets, you have to accept mishaps. Want counts is how they are dealt with.

MidsummersNightie · 24/03/2021 20:14

Are you equating children to dogs? I find that utterly distasteful.
I have worked in a supermarket for several years and I would not balk at cleaning up urine or vomit from a child who was suddenly taken unwell (although in those several years working in a supermarket, this has never happened} Toilet trained children only have accidents when they are quite poorly. I would have every sympathy with this.

But those children are few and far between. They only shit and piss and vomit when they are poorly. And actually typing this, I haven't ever known this happen. In five years in a supermarket.

On consideration, your statement that I used to work in a shop and have often had to clean up wee and vomit from children

It seems a little overstated.

ismiseeire · 24/03/2021 20:17

Would you have gone into Tesco with the dog and expected him to be treated differently? It's a dog, pissing on a floor. Not acceptable.

ViciousJackdaw · 24/03/2021 20:18

@4Mongrels

Whilst your dog is still scent marking it’s not really acceptable to take him inside anywhere and put him down!
Well no, you're meant to do that at the vets.
MidsummersNightie · 24/03/2021 20:19

This is a shining example of entitled dog owners "they should expect my dog to piss in their shop!"

I know. What can you do though? You can't imprint 1970s values on the 2020 entitled society.

Defmy · 24/03/2021 20:21

The puppy isn't toilet trained. That is not the same as bringing a well behaved adult dog into a venue.

You are being utterly unreasonable. I can't believe you didn't take it straight out. They actually had to ask you to leave?!
