Aibu?

Went to a local garden centre with my mum which sells pet products. Had my mums 17 week old puppy with me. Walked around the outside part first and puppy did two wees on the grass. Took him inside and he decided to do another wee. Very embarrassed as he had already done 2 and wouldnt have let him walk inside if he hadn't recently done. Anyway, my mum went off to the toilets to get some loo roll, both dry to clean up and wet to wash the area. Then I went to find a member of staff to see if they had any anti bac spray I could use. Rather than giving me some, I was told to take the dog out as it wasn't trustworthy. Explained he had already done 2 wees so this wasn't expected. Was still told to leave and the dog was banned from the place. This was a small independent garden centre not a big chain company. Oh the offending dog? A chihuahua!

Aibu to think if you sell pet products, it's expected people will bring their dogs in (signs say dogs welcome) and occasional their maybe be a accident.

YABU calling a chihuahua a dog.

insancerre · 24/03/2021 18:45

I don’t understand why you took your dog shopping

PrattATatt · 24/03/2021 18:47

I don't think you can say dogs welcome and not expect the odd accident.

l2b2 · 24/03/2021 18:47

No dog owner intentionally takes their dog into a shop to wee or poo everywhere @Candyfloss99....that's a bit daft. It's usually only pet shops or garden centres that welcome dogs, so you'd think the business could cope with a bit of wee without a massive fuss.

notdaddycool · 24/03/2021 18:47

It’s bad enough working in retail without untrained dogs YABVU and quite odd to post it here as if you’re aggrieved.

HeyGepetto · 24/03/2021 18:50
@DorisLessingsCat toilet trained children have accidents as well sometimes, like dogs they’re not perfect. I used to work in a shop and have often had to clean up wee and vomit from children, sometimes it can’t be helped, we didn’t ban them from the store.
It’s almost like children are different to dogs.

blue25 · 24/03/2021 18:51

Entitled much?

MrMucker · 24/03/2021 18:52

Should've carried the dog in your clutch bag for the entire shopping trip, then you could have kept the dog wee to yourself all inside your own bag instead of wasting it on such a lack of appreciation.
Pearls to swine!

Jetsthebestgladiator · 24/03/2021 18:53

There were two random dogs in B & Q this week when I went. Seems strange taking them shopping. Not guide dogs and one not even well behaved. And stop comparing dogs to children people!

Alwaysandforeverhere · 24/03/2021 18:54

I mean it’s a chihuahua what did you expect. They are arses to train and just arses as “dogs” you could of carried it easily.

Soubriquet · 24/03/2021 18:54

ODFO

Of course chihuahuas are dogs. One of the best breeds IMO

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/03/2021 18:54

How embarrassing for you.

I’m with the shop owners on this one. No one wants to smell dog piss on the gifty tat in a garden centre. Anti bac is a bit pointless. The smell will be there for other dogs to mark. They’ll need an special cleaner to break down the scent. What a pain.

Maybe keep your dog in the car next time.

Meezer2 · 24/03/2021 18:54

I don't want to shop where your dog has pissed.... it's bad enough dodging dog shit everywhere these days.
Leave it at home.
YABU. Sick of indulgent owners expecting to take their dogs everywhere

Heatherjayne1972 · 24/03/2021 18:55

Nope. Dog should stay outside
No one wants to walk in dog wee. That’s beyond disgusting
At the very least you should carry anti bac wipes and poo bags if you have a puppy

RedToothBrush · 24/03/2021 18:57

@Raaaaaaarr

Today I was told to leave a garden centre because my dog was pissing everywhere.

The real title.

This.

OP went with a dog she knows isn't toilet trained to the shop. And she wonders why it pees and why the shop got pissy (sic) about it.

Dogs in shops is discretionary. If they are being problematic or doing something that is unpleasant to other human customers of course they and their owners should be asked to leave. They are there on trust - trust that their owners can keep them under control. That would naturally include being on a lead, not biting and not pissing everywhere.

You broke that. Of course you should be thrown out for knowing creating a situation which was likely to make the shop unpleasant for other customers. It was remarkably selfish to take an untrained 17 week old puppy to a shop. Even if its 'dog friendly'.

A child isn't a dog.

HTH.

MadeOfStarStuff · 24/03/2021 19:00

YABU

If your dog isn’t reliably toilet trained then you shouldn’t take them into shops

Rillington · 24/03/2021 19:06

Why would you take a dog into a pet shop? They sell pet products it doesn't mean they want your dog in there.

RootyT00t · 24/03/2021 19:07

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

If a man pissed on a pile of compost bags in a garden centre he’d rightly be thrown out surely, why not a dog ?
🙄
Soubriquet · 24/03/2021 19:08

@Rillington

Why would you take a dog into a pet shop? They sell pet products it doesn't mean they want your dog in there.
Hmm

There are plenty of reasons

To get collars and harnesses to fit correctly

To weigh them (they usually have a weighing machine)

To talk to the shop workers who know quite a bit and can give you hands on advice

Some like pets at home have a grooming salon or vet station inside

MidsummersNightie · 24/03/2021 19:08

I honestly don't know what planet some people are on! Of course you can have a reasonable expectation that dogs won't shit in your shop!

Planet fucking idiot. My close neighbour currently has 3 dogs. They are working dogs and perfectly well socialised with other dogs and people. They range in age from 2 yrs to 10 yrs. Not one of them has ever been inside a shop. Not any sort of shop. A pet section in a garden centre is for people to buy supplies for their pets. Not a place where you're welcome to bring them willy nilly. Even if it says pets welcome, they are most definitely not welcome to shit or piss there.

It is the height of irresponsibility to take umbrage at being asked to not come back to a shop in which your dog has pissed on the floor.
I would personally have a sense of shame, and perfectly understand why my dog would not be welcomed back.

And to put a tin lid on it, my friend runs a garden centre with a pet section. I help out at weekends, and not once in the past 10 years has anyone brought a dog in. Not even a little one.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 24/03/2021 19:09

YABU. I'd have been mortified. Trained dogs allowed, yes, not dogs which are going to piss all over the place every two minutes. Come on OP, have some cop on.

Spudbyanyothername · 24/03/2021 19:09

Yabu not the puppies fault, they wee a lot but I think twice outside and once inside is a bit much, if everyone’s dog did that the place would be foul.

Notnownotneverever · 24/03/2021 19:12

I don’t even like dogs much but a dog wee doesn’t bother me.
I was thinking YWBU until you said signs say Dogs Welcome. If there are dog welcome signs inside then YANBU. If the signs were outside then YWBU to bring the dog inside.
