Aibu to think that actually we should let the EU keep more vaccines that would have been sent here given their low vaccination rate and our high one.

Firstly, the EU have majorly fucked up vaccine deployment, there's no getting around that and no excuse.
But, if people are dying because of a vaccine shortage and vaccine is being sent to us to put into the arms of people very unlikely to die then the vaccine should be rerouted. A few caveats to this, that vaccine should be in people's arms (especially vulnerable people) as fast as possible and not still in shelves. Apparently the US has hundreds of thousands of doses of the AZ vaccine in storage unapproved when it could already be in arms somewhere else in the world.
I also wish the rest of the world would follow our example and delay the second dose to get more people protected. I think the (brilliant) tactic has been overlooked internationally.
This is a global issue and we should take a global view.
So iabu we should get the vaccine we ordered.
Or ianbu they need it more so should deploy it there.

I was about the say the same thing @hellsbells99. I work out of the house (no option to work from home) meeting potentially hundreds of people a day, I also have mild asthma. I have colleagues who have similar issues that have yet to receive the vaccine. I acknowledge and accept it's selfish to want and get the vaccine before more vulnerable people in other countries receive theirs but the UK can't control the roll out of vacancies in other countries.

We could provide the EU with some of the doses intended for the UK but it wouldn't help them use them. The EU already has stocks that they are either struggling to get to people or are being refused. I don't see how providing them with yet more AZ that they would struggle to distribute or be refused. After all, the self life of AZ is less than 6 months, it's possible they could cultivate such a collection that some could go to waste if they don't increase the uptake.

Basically, the EU (and any other country) should have access to as much vaccine as they need however there's currently more demand than supply and there are private contracts to fulfill too. The EU in particular also has problems with the perception of AZ which is the vaccine they're currently considering holding in the EU.

So you are flouncing OP?

You never addressed the unused vaccines and the smear campaign issues.

@MarshaBradyo no I haven’t had mine, but given the timeline I would get mine before him which isn’t right.

Happy for others more vulnerable than me to go first. That’s what this should be about - saving lives. But then again I’m only interested in myself so...

Wow this thread is a horribly depressing read.

I can't see anyone addressing my point above: those of you who think we should share with the EU, why are you only limiting it to the EU, not the rest of the world? I'm pretty sure Africa and South America could use some.

You’re 30s very low risk

Of course you don’t need it as much as others.

I think we need to help everyone, I've read somewhere that other countries are asking to start making vaccine but companies aren't allowing it. Don't know if it is true but I think that is wrong. The more people in the world who are protected the safer we are from new variations so better for us as well as them.

I've read that Biden is considering what to do in May when supply of vaccines outstrips demand. Hopefully COVAX will get the excess
