To wear this for an interview?

It's for a clinical position on a children's ward. I've not interviewed in person for a long time!! Is this professional enough?

Gosh, I didn’t realise it came across strongly worded 😳☹️. I probably need to think how it comes across from a different perspective, or just stop posting comments would probably be easier.
Probably just delete my account actually. Not sure why I even chip in tbh. Probably just extreme loneliness. Oh well.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 20:49

@Mamafaye you expressed your opinion, elaborated when asked. No actual harm done. You have not done anything wrong?
Hang around.

alexdgr8 · 24/03/2021 20:53

no definitely not, in my opinion.
but maybe some of you think i am old-fashioned, or just old.
but the people in charge are likely to be older.
if you had been going for something a bit zany, modern dance school, art house, then maybe.
but not for any serious position.
it looks like a party dress.
workwear should be sober.
a man wouldn't get away with wearing a neon blue suit to such an interview.
wear something plain.
you could add a dash of colour with a scarf, but be careful.
good luck.

She wore the dress She got the job She’s a skilled professionally qualified woman appointed on her merits , wearing that dress

It looks like you are screaming for the post. It might go against you.
I'd keep it for a wedding.

QueenPaw · 24/03/2021 21:10

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee GrinGrin honestly

sunshinemode · 24/03/2021 21:15

I work in a clinical role with children and my colleagues wear everything from that to a T-shirt and leggings

KittyMcV · 24/03/2021 21:31

You want them to be focusing on you, and not your clothes - so I think it's just too beautiful and striking. Could also give the impression of you being flighy and image conscious. But if you're right for the job that's what matters, and it all depends on the interviewer. But I'd go for something plainer.

Oh dear how limiting and depressing! I used to work in a senior clinical role with children and young people and we wore dresses, trousers, brightly printed tops and shirts, all sorts. We were all on at least £40k a year and we were all really good at our job. These reductionist attitudes belong in the ark. Congratulations OP!!
KittyMcV · 24/03/2021 21:36

I see you got the job! Congratulations! And you can now wear the dress while having a glass of bubbly to celebrate! :-)

Gbtch · 24/03/2021 21:51

I think it’s fab. It’s about how you perform rather than what you wear

LadyfromtheBelleEpoque · 24/03/2021 22:11

@you alright there, @Mamafaye

@Viviennemary. Might have to buy it - looks so good 😉

wheresmycrown · 24/03/2021 22:13

I would wear it. I carry out interviews for various roles and part of that process is understanding who people are.
The best people to interview are those who are genuinely themselves and their personality shines through. Wearing a dress like that is lovely and it shows part of who you are as a person.

Wear the dress.

wheresmycrown · 24/03/2021 22:16

Lol I didn't RTFT! 🙈. Well done @youremyperson. X

youremyperson · 24/03/2021 22:17

This is quite a funny thread. I wore the dress, I got the job. No one was mortified Grin

So maybe the take home message is wear the dress, buy the shoes, apply for the job

Thanks for the advice on this thread Smile

This thread has indeed been very funny.
I'm glad you showed that a vibrant personality is not an obstacle to being appointed to a senior role.

Christ, yea

And I know know some utterly fabulous sites for dresses and shoes

BackAwayFatty · 24/03/2021 22:32

Read that you got the job so 1st of all congrats!

2nd I would have wore it & think it's lovely! I also wear patterned dresses most days Smile

Barney60 · 25/03/2021 08:48

its a no from me.

BigPaperBag · 25/03/2021 08:49

It looks a bit like a curtain.

BigPaperBag · 25/03/2021 08:49

Congrats on the job though.

Tomasinabombadil · 25/03/2021 09:07

Congratulations on getting the job.👏💐🙂

Borisisafecklesstoad · 25/03/2021 09:58

I would. I worked in a kids hospital for years and most non uniformed staff you always noticed that their clothes were brighter and less stoic. To me something like this shows you understand that the atmosphere you are working in is very different and deserves a different approach than adults. Good luck!

Borisisafecklesstoad · 25/03/2021 10:00

Just saw your update, amazing news, congratulations! WineFlowers

HildegardNightingale · 25/03/2021 10:08

Wine and Flowers Congratulations. Lovely dress by the way.
