To wear this for an interview?

It's for a clinical position on a children's ward. I've not interviewed in person for a long time!! Is this professional enough?

To wear this for an interview?
OP posts:
cansu · 24/03/2021 19:32

It would look great of you wore something like a plain navy cardigan or jacket with it.
I love it actually.

Mamafaye · 24/03/2021 19:34

Holy moly! Am I the only one that would wear a white blouse and black trousers to an interview? Regardless of the position or company? If I was the interviewer I would be extremely shocked if someone turned up in that. It’s a beautiful dress, but I’d be mortified to wear it to an interview tbh. A wedding or a party would be lovely though.

Chichiboo · 24/03/2021 19:35

Depends on the job but nice dress

Harryo · 24/03/2021 19:37

Congratulations @youremyperson

tommyhoundmum · 24/03/2021 19:37

HeelHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Bit chippy are we?

Tomasinabombadil · 24/03/2021 19:38

Love it but not for an interview. As other people have said a smaller pattern or plain colour would be more suitable. The photo is styled how it would look with a net petticoat, it will hang/drape flatter without.

That style with a 50’s net petticoat to give a full puffy skirt was my go to for a couple of weddings in 2018 & 2019 and another wedding scheduled for October this year (postponed from last year). I have worn the dresses from 2018/2019 without the full petticoat at summer garden parties too.

Good luck at your interview.🙂

supperlover · 24/03/2021 19:39

I should have read the whole thread before posting as now see you wore the dress and got the job! Congratulations! I'm obviously way out of touch with what's appropriate.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 19:40

The op is a skilled professional in a shortage area. The panel will not be shocked at candidate wearing a striking dress
Op is selecting the job as much as they’re are interviewing her

I don’t know your employment or what cuts it as the norm, that you’d be rendered mortified @Mamafaye

However in op professional field it is appropriate attire
She got the job
She wore the dress

Alsohuman · 24/03/2021 19:42

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

They’re gorgeous shoes, really stylish *@Alsohuman*
Thank you. I think they might have got me the job 😉
Mermer11 · 24/03/2021 19:43

Hmmm wonder what judgement might have a children ward nurse picking flowery dress for an interview? Whotf cares what she wears? She'll be wearing scrubs at work. The worst you can think is that she dresses like a fool. It doesn't say Anything about her work. I've interviewed and trained number of staff for a hotel group in London and my favourite was a young chap who turned up in flip flops swinging water bottle. I was mortified. He turned out to be the best I've ever trained, very bright and great to be around every day. Haha don't judge book by its cover
OP lovely dress, they'll remember you. Maybe put cardigan or little jacket on top. Enjoy the interview

Crazyunicornlady · 24/03/2021 19:43

@Alsohuman

For heaven’s sake, it isn’t a party dress. It’s the kind of thing hundreds of women wear for work every day. Any interviewer who’s put off by something that isn’t black trousers and white top isn’t up to the job.
Yes this ^

I wear dresses like this most days and I’ve interviewed in similar too. I work in primary care.

notacooldad · 24/03/2021 19:44

*Holy moly! Am I the only one that would wear a white blouse and black trousers to an interview?
I've never worn a white blouse and black trousers to an interview in 38 years of being interviewed and always got great jobs!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 19:48

I’ve never worn any of the suggested attire to an interview. I’ve been offered every post I’ve interviewed for

Chocolateandamaretto · 24/03/2021 19:48

I have worn similar (with doc martens Grin) and got the job. Depends on your industry tbh!

aquashiv · 24/03/2021 19:50

More appropriate if fitted with a jacket.
Its nice very 50s retro.
Though if you are the dress ie hair do and pointy shoes then why not.

Tomasinabombadil · 24/03/2021 19:50

@notacooldad

Thats really nice. Where is it from Op?
Lady Vintage have gorgeous 50’s style dresses & they’re made in the UK. I have purchased my wedding guest dresses from them over the past few years.🙂
partyatthepalace · 24/03/2021 19:51

It’s glorious, and in my field - totally wear it - but from my memories of a youth spent working in various care units, they were more shirt and tailored trousers affairs, but perhaps it’s jazzed up since then.

user1494050295 · 24/03/2021 19:52

Wear a jacket over the top

notacooldad · 24/03/2021 19:55

Tomasinabombadil
I use Lady V a lot.
I recently got 6 dresses in the sale for £15 each and they look brilliant.
I can't wait for everywhere to open up to wear them!

devilish · 24/03/2021 19:58

It’s lovely wear it, it will certainly make u stand out from all the others candidates and that’s never a bad thing at an interview.
Good luck xx

Mexicantortilla · 24/03/2021 20:01

A clinical psychologist I once worked with said that she always wore something bright or eye catching so that interviewers that have lots of candidates to see would remember her and I thought that was genius as most people wear samey samey type suits. Definitely stand out and be remembered, good luck OP

VienneseWhirligig · 24/03/2021 20:20

@LadyfromtheBelleEpoque I have that suit, and wear it when I have a formal work meeting and need some confidence. It's super flattering.

Alsohuman · 24/03/2021 20:27

It’s a beautiful suit. Bet you look a million dollars in it @VienneseWhirligig.

Mamafaye · 24/03/2021 20:33

I worked in pharmaceuticals; a lifeless, souless career with about as much flare and excitement as a dead badger lol. I can’t imagine such a wonderful job or profession that someone could be so lucky as to wear a dress like that to an interview; thank goodness there is!
Clearly you are getting your hackles up thinking I was being judgmental but actually I’ve just had such a miserable working life that what you should of felt was pity for my comment!
I also wouldn’t have the confidence to wear something like that anyway so good for anyone that does!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 24/03/2021 20:37

No hackles were raised @Mamafaye I genuinely was interested in your v strongly worded post and you’ve now elaborated upon the strong emotions evident in your post
