To wear this for an interview?

It's for a clinical position on a children's ward. I've not interviewed in person for a long time!! Is this professional enough?

To wear this for an interview?

I'd say no. If the skirt were less full and more "officey" it would be ok, but it's just too dressy imo.

youremyperson · 23/03/2021 18:44

Hmm maybe need to go back to the drawing board. I do wear dresses like this on a daily basis when not in work but obviously my style isn't for interviews!!

OTT

SignsofSpring · 23/03/2021 18:47

I think a similar dress but with a straight not fluffy skirt would give more the right vibe, and still fit in with your own personal style. I think patterns are fine though. Cardi or jacket will be needed as it's the UK and usually not that hot!

Purplewithred · 23/03/2021 18:49

I would wonder slightly if you'd just dropped in on your way to a garden party - but that would be tempered if you wore it with sensible shoes and a cardi, so you looked like someone who wore nice dresses rather than the sloppy crap I seem to wear every day nowadays.

GraduallyWatermelon · 23/03/2021 18:50

I think it's the shape rather than the print of the dress - as a shift dress it probably wouldn't seem so OTT

Toddlerteaplease · 23/03/2021 18:51

I've got one of those dresses for my sisters wedding. It's a lovely dress. But I'm not sure if it's a bit OTT. (I work on a children's ward). Just look smart!

Mischance · 23/03/2021 18:51

Not for an interview - it would be suitable for jiving!

NerrSnerr · 23/03/2021 18:51

@youremyperson maybe this is the calling you need to make the jump over to mental health (although I can imagine CAMHS is difficult with it being so underfunded) but no one would bat an eyelid and they certainly wouldn't question your judgement!

Purplewithred · 23/03/2021 18:52

Oh now you've got me started! I want the dinosaur one! What do they look like on? do you have a photo of yourself in one? what shoes do you wear?

youremyperson · 23/03/2021 18:52

@NerrSnerr maybe it is!!

I think when interviewing for any role, you ideally want to go 'business formal' - what you'd wear to meet a client rather than what you'd wear around the back office. This dress doesn't meet that criteria IMO. But it's very nice!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/03/2021 18:53

Little wings dresses are Lovely though. OP hope you are interviewing for my ward we really need some more staff!

youremyperson · 23/03/2021 18:54

@Purplewithred they fit a bit big to size tbh so I sized down and it's great. They have photos of people wearing them on the Facebook page or bellow the dresses.

Hesma · 23/03/2021 18:55

It’s hideous really not suitable for an interview. I worked for 20 years in recruitment and this is too showy and professional enough imho
Hope the interview goes well 🤞

PembrokeshireDreaming · 23/03/2021 18:56

I would play it safe and go for something plain / less patterned.

Lovely dress and might not matter but is it worth risking it?

MadMadMadamMim · 23/03/2021 18:56

Lovely dress, but a bit OTT for an interview, I'd have thought.

lilroo87 · 23/03/2021 18:56

I think it's lovely, plus you'll stand out so they won't forget you.
Pair with a simple, plain heel and a bag and I think it would look great.
Good luck with the interview xx

LubaLuca · 23/03/2021 18:56

It's too much like a costume, with the puffy skirt (is it netting?). I would worry that it would consume the first impression I would try to make - you'd have to have one hell of a big personality to compete with that dress.

jessstan2 · 23/03/2021 18:59

Very nice and appropriate.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 23/03/2021 18:59

I like it, but I think it's a bit too dressy, if it was less poofy at the bottom it would be a big yes.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/03/2021 18:59

Ok I need the dinosaur dress!

Alsohuman · 23/03/2021 19:00

If I were interviewing you that dress would predispose me to give you the job. It oozes confidence and initiative.

HowlingGale · 23/03/2021 19:00

No not interview appropriate. Pretty dress, but does not convey a professional image - too girly, flouncy and fun in my opinion.

Dogsandbabies · 23/03/2021 19:02

Definitely do it OP. I interview many people and all the women come in little black dresses, they merge into one. I always remember the woman in the red dress it in your case in the flower dress. It may just set you apart from the crowd. Good luck!
