Hen Party Abroad

Strawbfields · 22/03/2021 21:15

Hey,

I am a bridesmaid for a good friend who is absolutely insisting on having a 4/5 night hen party abroad in the summer holidays next year. Like the majority of us, I have been unable to get away with my OH or family due to the pandemic and I'd rather prioritise my family. The cost is looking to be in the region of £1000PP by the time we factor in the holiday cost, spending money and all the added extras that come with hen parties. (The brides DM is covering the brides cost)

I just think with everything that we have all gone through over the last year, it would be far better to hire out a lodge with hot tub etc and have a great time in the UK at a 1/4 of the cost.

It might also be worth mentioning the wedding has been postponed by a year due to the pandemic and a few of the girls circumstances have changed. If the wedding itself was abroad then that would be completely different, but I think it's a bit much just for a hen weekend. AIBU?

1k to share a sofa bed with another adult and a bathroom between 4, no way on Earth! Obviously she’s been totally unreasonable, all you should expect from your friends is an evening out, even £300 in this country is a lot of money. I expect they’d have wanted you to pay her share for meals and drinks etc when you were out there too.

arabella me too but I’m finding a small cluster of late second/third marriages and marriages after decades together with a sensible eye to pensions/powers of attorney/next of kin type thoughts. Luckily without exception so far these have been excellent joyful usually small simple affairs.

MrsWhites · 25/03/2021 11:59

Wow OP you really have been treated poorly by your so called friend! I never understand why some people are so determined that getting married turns them into some sort of princess who can make unreasonable demands on people’s time and money in the run up to their wedding.

I don’t understand the obsession with hen parties to be honest, I didn’t even bother myself.

Anyway, you’ve dodged a bullet there, I mean ‘zoom wedding chats’ - what a joke. They are right about something though, they have shown you their true colours!

Heartofglass12345 · 25/03/2021 12:01

I think you and your OH should book a holiday for the same time instead, now you're not spending a fortune on their stupid stag/ hen parties!

HarrietOh · 25/03/2021 12:10

"Zoom wedding chats"?! Kill me now.

AryaStarkWolf · 25/03/2021 12:12

before this one closes, if you do have anymore updates OP, let us know!

oh, some weddings are lovely! But I think we all know the type of desperately overdone affairs that cause problems. Most of them are more about the wedding than the marriage.
