freeus · 19/03/2021 19:10

Oh has been caught speeding, he's already done a speed awareness course 2 years ago.
he's complaining that the insurance is going to up now. I said I don't want to take the wrath for him it's not my problem!

AIBU?
Apparently I've got no loyalty to him and I'm not backing him up.

Not to mention it's illegal

@GreyhoundG1rl why would I need to lie about something like that? Not convenient at all.

When you attend a SAC, the instructors will usually have a copy of the photographs. You might not realise. However they will certainly check the licence of everyone attending to confirm they are who they should be. (In most cases this will be a photo licence which makes things easy, although it is still interesting how many old paper ones are still around).

It's highly unlikely they won't spot that a Mrs should be a Mr or vice versa. Even in these enlightened times. At which point, you don't really need o work for NASA to guess what is going to happen.

Toothdrama · 20/03/2021 15:07

I'm glad you are moving on from him op

Apart from being illegal what would happen IF you then got caught yourself down the line.. will you have to find someone to take the speed awareness course for you?

What a complete tit he doesnt deserve you.v

thedancingbear · 20/03/2021 15:12

If only your husband drove his car less quickly than you were able to arrange a new lease, OP, then there would be no need for a speed awareness course! And no-one would be lying to anyone!

No, hold on, that doesn't work. Bear with.

thedancingbear · 20/03/2021 15:15

But yes, the danger here would be that the photo could be high-enough-res nowadays for the police to see who is driving. Or at least, to make out that it definitely wasn't you.

Gone are the days when the only evidence was a grainy picture on a number plate and people bullshat willy-nilly about who was driving.

ProfessorSlocombe · 20/03/2021 15:24

There are a lot of cameras you don't see. Once a query has been raised over the identity of a driver, then footage taken along the route will also be inspected. This is all standard procedure in case the person the NIP is served on happened to be sharing the driving (or "sharing the driving") and can't remember who was at the wheel at the time.

It's a very high stakes game. The prosecution process has been carefully designed to ensure anyone who starts off with some clever ideas about point swapping has no excuse.

Dontjudgeme101 · 20/03/2021 15:51

Well done op. Really proud of you. You’ve got balls!!!

WallaceinAnderland · 20/03/2021 16:11

I don't understand the logic of 'he can't take the course, he's already done it'. You can't nominate someone else to do the course if you've done it, you get the penalty points instead.

Well yes. That's what the whole thread is about.

He can't take the course and he doesn't want the points so he wants OP to lie and say she was driving and therefore she can do the course.

It's highly unlikely they won't spot that a Mrs should be a Mr or vice versa. Even in these enlightened times. At which point, you don't really need o work for NASA to guess what is going to happen.

Yes but if OP declares on the form that she was the driver, the SAC will be in her name.

Why are people finding this so difficult to understand Grin

TimeForTeaAndG · 20/03/2021 16:26

@greyhoundG1rl if you think there is something dodgy, report the post.

Well done OP. Enjoy your new life when you move!

But the photo the instructor has from the camera won't match.

The whole system has been designed in the full knowledge - and expectation - that there will be the odd bright spark who wants to try it on like this. If they are very lucky, it might just work - there are a few circumstances where it could work. But even then, they rely on both parties keeping their mouths shut.

It's also axiomatic that a driver who needed to commit this very serious crime needs to do so because they are a dangerous driver. So having duped some sucker into taking their points or SAC and therefore immune from their own idiocy, they are guaranteed to go back to their old ways - over the speed limit of course. And then what ?

Blockedoff · 21/03/2021 14:26

An absolute no!

24YearsAtTheTapEnd · 21/03/2021 14:28

It's neither here nor there.

It's only been 2 years, therefore he won't be offered another course.

He will get points and a fine.

GreenBalaclava · 21/03/2021 14:30

@24YearsAtTheTapEnd he wanted OP to pretend she was driving and do the course.

24YearsAtTheTapEnd · 21/03/2021 16:51

Ohhhhhhh.

Yes that makes way more sense. Blush

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 21/03/2021 17:02

But the photo the instructor has from the camera won't match

Most fixed cameras take a rear view shot, there is no indication of who is driving.

It wasn't the only reason they started using Truvelo in 2007 as well as Gatsos, but it was certainly a noted one that it caught the cars cockpit space.

By all means, if you - or anyone in the situation the OPs DH is in wants to play roadspeed roulette than give it a spin. But on the basis the instructors had pictures when I attended my SAC BlushBlushBlushand were quite chatty, there is some real jeopardy.

derxa · 21/03/2021 17:21

@PubicMenace

I don't think you can take the course twice.
I did
MoonCatcher · 21/03/2021 17:23

You can do more than one so long as they're at least 3 years apart.

Frazzled2207 · 21/03/2021 20:08

You're right to dump him OP. You can do better. Certainly better than someone who wants you to become a criminal.
