Let me hear your most ridiculous baby boasts

It’s going to get worse isn’t it Grin

I’ve been on here long enough to know that babies can bring out the worst competitiveness in parents, I wasn’t expecting it to start quite so early.

Last week I had my 12 week scan, first baby. I was very nervous due to a previous loss. The sonographer thankfully let me hear the heartbeat straight away, but when she found the baby, it was very still. She got me to move around a bit to wake it up, which it eventually did, so she could get some pictures and measurements etc.

For some reason, I’d not considered they slept in there. I was jokingly telling my friend who had a baby last year, that ours was asleep when she started the scan. ‘Oh’ says my friend. ‘Ours was very active, she was jumping around all over the place, she even waved. But she’s always been very curious about everything. You’re probably going to have quite a lazy baby, I’d think.’

So there we go, at three months and still in my womb, someone has already compared my baby to their’s Grin

Let me hear some other examples and have a laugh.

She even waved gave me a giggle 😂 I thankfully don't really know anybody like this but I do know there are people out there like it.

SunbathingDragon · 16/03/2021 08:15

I had two babies who were always asleep during scans and they aren’t at all lazy but they did continue to sleep well after they were born. I also had a baby who was all over the place and active every scan. He has yet to sleep longer than a few hours even now!

Someone told me that my youngest would be late to walk because he was fat Hmm. He wobbly walked at just over ten months.

NewtoHolland · 16/03/2021 08:16

She even waved 😅🤣🤣🤣
That is hilarious.

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 08:17

Ha! Do you know what OP, my baby was like yours on my scans and now he’s out he’s a brilliant sleeper. So let’s hope yours is like mine and you can return the favour when you’re getting 8 hours solid kip a night and her ‘curious’ girl is waking her up repeatedly. Grin

MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 16/03/2021 08:18

People are crazzzzy.
I knew someone who posted on Facebook last year how the lockdown had been fantastic for potty training her ds who wasn't even 2 yet was potty trained wasn't he amazing blah blah blah. Met her a few weeks ago in Sainsbury's and she let slip he wasn't potty trained and she was so stressed trying to make sure he was ready for starting nursery!

NormanStangerson · 16/03/2021 08:19

Oh yeah! @SunbathingDragon just reminded me of one.

The mother of a really massive baby told me my baby was “really fat (complete with tinkly laugh), that’s probably why he can’t move much”, while hers was just “extremely developed”.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/03/2021 08:22

Oh if it means they turn out to be a good sleeper I would be overjoyed!

This particular friend does amuse me, it’s her first baby too, apparently they started teething at two months, just because they’re super ahead of their milestones. I don’t know why you’d be desperate for a teething baby, personally!

otterbaby · 16/03/2021 08:32

My baby never stopped moving during those scans (I had to go back another day on several occasions because they couldn't get measurements) and she HATES sleep. So fingers crossed for you 😂

Oh, I've found people compare everything. The one that repeatedly seems to come up is the amount of hair they have. At least 3 different people I know are desperate to get their little girl's hair tied up into a bobble. Why?! Only 5-6 months old, btw!

itshappened · 16/03/2021 08:32

Both my babies had to be woken up for the scans... Hot chocolate and jumping around did the trick! But I'm afraid they were both terrible sleepers and are like little Duracell bunnies now... Oh and i make fat little Buddha babies. My first walked at one, the other at nearly 14 months. The first one hit a lot of other milestones early, the second was late with everything physical as he hated tummy time, refused to crawl and bum shuffled everywhere before he realised walking was better. But he is a total chatterbox and my first didn't really say anything until 18 months. So you really never know what they will be like and they will do things in their own time.

Congratulations on your baby. Such an exciting time!

Busbitch · 16/03/2021 08:37

When I had my twins I said to a friend I was finding it hard going feeding them at around 4 months and I was starting to dread feeding time.

She nodded along and then told me it was actually easier to have twins than a singleton 🤔

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/03/2021 08:43

GrinGrin In what universe would it be easier to have twins?! ShockGrin

Scrunchies · 16/03/2021 08:46

@Busbitch but surely they entertain each other riiiight........?

My Mum had twins, she found it easier.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/03/2021 08:51

Hahaha waving 12 week foetus.

I’ve got a weird skill in that I can block out when others are boating about their kids.

InvincibleInvisibility · 16/03/2021 08:53

Awww thanks OP you've brought a smile to my face remembering DS2's scan. The sonographer couldn't get what she needed so had to push hard on my stomach. Ds2 was most put out and kept trying to "hit" the scanner Grin It was really cute.

I've produced 2 non sleeping and very active babies. Everyone around me has really calm kids. I've given up caring and just do what is best for our family.

CreosoteQueen · 16/03/2021 08:58

I also had a sleepy-in-utero baby and he’s a champion sleeper now! Well not right now because we’ve hit the 4 month sleep regression, but from about 6 weeks he slept through. Hope yours will be the same!

I had a giggle at ‘she even waved’, that’s very good. I had a friend send me and my sister 25 photos of her baby’s first smile at about 6 days old. When my sister ventured to suggest it might have been wind, she said she didn’t think that was it because he was very polite and didn’t like to burp Grin

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/03/2021 08:59

@CreosoteQueen that is hilarious 😂

OP posts:
PlanetPuddle · 16/03/2021 08:59

Ha! Some people are obsessed with milestones. I just smile and nod and go that's nice. It infuriates them that I don't tell them when my child has done x y and z.

CreosoteQueen · 16/03/2021 09:01

She nodded along and then told me it was actually easier to have twins than a singleton

Dear lord!

Twins run in my family and when I was pregnant I thought it might be nice to have twins - and of course, it would be lovely! But now that I actually have a baby I’m in awe of how people with twins manage!

PlanetPuddle · 16/03/2021 09:01

One I had was trying to show off that her baby had woken up more in the night than mine because he is so advanced and learning so much that he is just too clever to sleep..

Flyingfrogspawn · 16/03/2021 09:01

This is hilarious. People love to compare.
I know it's not actually when babies here but for me having two or more women in a room talking about birthing stories was one of the most competitive conversations I've heard. I wanted to cross my legs and never give birth. Scarred me for life.

I had really bad sickness with my first and lost nearly 3 stone. Wore my normal clothes so bump never really looked that big. It was always commented how small I was compared to colleague. How lucky I was to be sailing through pregnancy with such a small bump, must be having a tiny baby etc whilst she was really suffering with her big baby etc. I was actually tasked with picking up her slack, so was pretty smug when my baby was born 4lb heavier Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 16/03/2021 09:02

Actually I didn’t get that much competition over the baby but I got loads of comments about how small mothers were.
Lots of:
“Well I gave birth to a 7lb baby... and I’m only small!”
“Yes I had two babies, and I’m actually very small!”
“When I had my baby it was painful.... because I’m so small!”

Weirdly loads of these comments from women of my mum’s generation (aunts, in laws, even my physio)

And all women who are about 5’4” so a completely average height

letsgoandtango · 16/03/2021 09:04

"lazy baby" omg 😂
Why does pregnancy bring the crazy out in some people

Fwiw my DC1 was jumping around all over the place in the scans. And later in life diagnosed with severe ADHD. Tell your "friend" to be careful what she wishes for...

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/03/2021 09:05

Haha this made me laugh- the only response to “you’ll have a lazy baby” is “I bloody hope so”
