How do I tell my best friend that I'm moving to York

I've put it off for ages, we're going to be moving in less than 6 months now.

Text, phone call or (sd) face to face?

Didn't mean my post to sound as harsh as it does now that I've read it back, sorry.

It is really hard giving someone 'good' news for you, but possible bad news for them that you think they will be upset by.

You only have to see the many 'how do I tell my friend I'm pregnant when they're struggling' posts to get that.

If I were you, OP, I'd break it gently by text / WhatsApp first... something like "You know that work thing me / DH has going on? They've said that it may need to be in York... will find out more this week... oh god, what an upheaval that would be"....

I think people are confused at how you've gone from not moving to moving without friend having an idea. For me, my friends would have known it was on the cards, been up to date on the decision making etc rather than a fair accompli. However you have 6m now so I'd tell her next time you're in person or on phone and just said you babe made the big decision to move. Sounds s like you are an important person to her so reassure you'll of course stay in touch and visit etc. Best of luck with the move.

She’ll be sad but it’s not so far away, just a couple of hours on the train. Tell her by phone, though.
