Delivery driver tried to run into me

Long and short is that I had a delivery today. Pallet was over 2 metre high and they wouldn’t deliver it to the back of the house. Every other delivery has been delivered this way. He wouldn’t tell me why he wouldn’t do it. It could have been there wasn’t enough space or whatever but he wouldn’t say.

I asked him to take the delivery back as I didn’t want to be liable for a pallet on the main road that wasn’t secured properly (was no wrap at the bottom) and I hadn’t signed the tablet. He refused.

As the driver was closing the back of the van etc I stood at the front of the van and tried to call the company. The driver than tried to drive into me. Had to call the police etc.

AIBU for standing in front of the truck and him trying to run into me? I was on the phone to his company.

I think the unstable palette of craft items has toppled over and squished the OP Sad

That’s a great deal many maybes, along with some classist garbage toward truck drivers.

And surely drivers haven’t lifted palettes off trucks by hand since 1940?

Hankunamatata · 12/03/2021 21:37

As to pallet loads iv never seen them 'attached' to the palette. You run to wrap round to wrap the load and keep it on the pallet - never seen load wrapped to the pallet - how would even do that.

If op was so worried she could have whacked a couple of staps on it. This was more the fact the op wanted it delivered to back of her house and he wouldnt do it.

Hankunamatata · 12/03/2021 21:38

And only muppets stand in the road infront of a truck Hmm

Hankunamatata · 12/03/2021 21:38

But nice op is trying to destroy a guys job

Delivery people aren’t largely paid minimum wage (or close to) then? And don’t have shit working conditions? Seriously? If you know of some delivery jobs where they treat you well and the pay is good enough to enable one to afford statues off Etsy, please PM me. I would love my partner to be loaded and not have to work fucking appalling hours in shit conditions.....

And yes, loads of them have to lift heavy things out of the van by hand. Depends on the job and the van, doesn’t it?

And if it (by “it” I refer to OP’s statues off Etsy, or whatever the fuck they were) were impossible to lift off the van by hand, how and why the fuck were the fella meant to carry it into OP’s garden?

eatsleepread · 13/03/2021 05:16

You do sound annoying, but there's obviously no way he should have done what he did.

eatsleepread · 13/03/2021 05:19

And how did this item, which was unconnected to the pallet, even make it in one piece to yours? Hmm

HoppingPavlova · 13/03/2021 08:40

This is what I question. It seemingly arrived together on the pallet, taking into account it HSD been in truck/lorry which had come to stops, gone around corners etc. Yet, it was fine AND was fine when it was unloaded, which would have also resulted in significant movement.

I call that the OP was pissed it was not dropped in the convenient (to her, not delivery driver) spot if her choosing.

Culminated with truck driver trying to drive AROUND her and she kept moving in front of them. That’s incredibly different to driver trying to hit her.

GabriellaMontez · 13/03/2021 08:54

I think the driver sounds a bit lazy. But the OPs story is inconsistent. And standing in front of someone's car when they're trying to leave is unreasonable. If it follows a disagreement it's also quite stupid.

I know we're looking at everything through through a lenses of misogyny this week. But in this case they just sound like a pair of knobs.
