Delivery driver tried to run into me

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:21

Long and short is that I had a delivery today. Pallet was over 2 metre high and they wouldn’t deliver it to the back of the house. Every other delivery has been delivered this way. He wouldn’t tell me why he wouldn’t do it. It could have been there wasn’t enough space or whatever but he wouldn’t say.

I asked him to take the delivery back as I didn’t want to be liable for a pallet on the main road that wasn’t secured properly (was no wrap at the bottom) and I hadn’t signed the tablet. He refused.

As the driver was closing the back of the van etc I stood at the front of the van and tried to call the company. The driver than tried to drive into me. Had to call the police etc.

AIBU for standing in front of the truck and him trying to run into me? I was on the phone to his company.

@SchrodingersImmigrant which is why I was calling his company when he started to pack up.

@HotPenguin

I can't believe people are suggesting YABU after someone tried to run you over.
I suspect that is because it is hard to believe that is what actually happened.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 11/03/2021 21:46

@Kazkepper123 so what did the police do

RozHuntleysStump · 11/03/2021 21:46

When you’re expecting a kerbside delivery, you need to be prepared for it! I recently had all my new bathroom stuff delivered. Had it wheeled onto the drive but even if that wasn’t possible I’d arranged for a couple of lads to help me in with it.

She isn't bu to have been run over. She is by to have deliberately blocked someone from leaving when they wanted to leave. Him being a dangerous dick doesn't change that op was bu. He's just worse.
CoffeeRunner · 11/03/2021 21:47

I’m having trouble imagining how the things on the pallet weren’t connected to the pallet. That said, I’m inclined to think he was being U for not delivering it where you needed it to go without good reason/explanation of that reason.

And of course nobody should be driving until you no matter the circumstances.

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:48

@Moondust001 what do you think happened?

OP posts:
Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:50

@CoffeeRunner they weren’t wrapped to the bottom to the pallet so easy to fall of

Were the police interested? Did they come out?

DavidsSchitt · 11/03/2021 21:50

Right. Do what did the police say?

luxxlisbon · 11/03/2021 21:52

You only paid for curb side delivery and then when the driver wouldn’t go beyond this you stood in front of his truck? This is all so mental on both your parts!

DavidsSchitt · 11/03/2021 21:52

Sounds like they were wrapped together but just the palette was loose? Either way, he dropped them where he was meant to.

Once a delivery man plumbed in my washer for me - I wouldn't expect them all to.

Spanglebangle · 11/03/2021 21:53

Did the police come? What was the outcome? Was the pallet left or removed? If it was removed, by whom? Did anyones baby get crushed? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

DianaT1969 · 11/03/2021 21:54

Did he put it back on the truck after you refused?
He tried to drive away with it, but you stood in front of his truck to block him. Is that what happened?
Why were you planning to leave it on the public pavement? Why not start breaking it down yourself?
For example, if you had 2m high worth of DIY materials delivered, you could have taken some off, laid everything down flat so it wasn't dangerous and moved them into you house/rear garden in your own time. No?

HerMammy · 11/03/2021 21:54

Regardless of where pallet was left, were you not planning to unload it anyway or was it to remain on pallet indefinitely.
I doubt many drivers would reload a pallet or deliver anywhere other than where stated on order.

nimbuscloud · 11/03/2021 21:54

And?

Kazkepper123 · 11/03/2021 21:55

@luxxlisbon I paid for curb site and all the companies I’ve used before have delivered down the side.
He didn’t want to, no worries.
Take the pallet back as it’s unsafe for a 2 metre high pallet full of something heavy to not be connected to the pallet. It’s the publics safety I didn’t want to be responsible for. I’m sure that’s not the haulage company’s fault how it’s packed, all they need to do is say the customer refused delivery of goods and that’s all.

What did the police say?

If he actually drove into you then I would expect him to be arrested for dangerous driving.

What did the police say?

nimbuscloud · 11/03/2021 21:56

So what did the police do?

It really isn’t a case of “and that’s all” when it comes to failed deliveries.

You paid for a kerb side delivery. You got a kerb side delivery.

I am struggling to picture how he got such an unstable load off the back of his van!

Naillig222 · 11/03/2021 21:57

He took the delivery back like you asked him to. He then needed to get on with his job. The rest was between you and the company. Why would you stand in front of his van? You sound like a lunatic.

Annoy · 11/03/2021 21:57

Why did you stand in front of the van in the first place? Were you trying to stop him leaving? If so, why?

WHAT DID THE POLICE SAY??

MotherOfGremlins · 11/03/2021 21:59
Biscuit
BakedTattie · 11/03/2021 22:00

Why did you stand infront of his lorry and not on the pavement / to the side?!
