To think we need a Royal Commission on the Conduct of the Daily Mail and other media?

I see this H&M interview a little differently.

Do you agree there needs to be a commission investigation into the conduct of the media specifically the Daily Mail etc especially after the DM lost its court case?

Previous articles should be produced by them - including when Piers Morgan called on the Queen the take baby Archie away. Because its clear the DM is doubling down on their bullying and gaslighting and it has to be stopped before someone is hurt.

So Piers Morgan once liked Megan until she stopped talking to him because he's... him,... so he's used the paper to hound her for like 3 years?? Is he out of his mind? Are we? What if this were me? You? Your best friend? A girl or boy he tried to pick up in a bar? Another celebrity??

Where does it stop?

Forget the RF and H&M for a second, who gave the DM the right to destroy lives and our institutions?

I just damn well hate bullies, hated them at school, and I think we should all hate them.

Ya definitely nbu

LolaSmiles · 08/03/2021 17:04

YANBU
Racism and harassment should be investigated and those responsible should have action taken against them in my opinion.

Lightsabre · 08/03/2021 17:07

Yanbu but they are the mouthpiece for great swathes of the British population sadly.

Theunamedcat · 08/03/2021 17:09

I agree

SerendipityJane · 08/03/2021 17:10

A far better solution would be to dump the whole circus and become a republic.

BenoneBeauty · 08/03/2021 17:16

YANBU Op - an independent investigation into racism in the British Press would be wholly welcome and not just focusing on MM but more widely in general (but also specifically on her would be excellent).

Would even be good as a research project from a PhD student assuming it could be done in an unbiased manner.

But isn't it a bit like social media.. they are the mouthpieces but they're also the trend setters.

It just sickens me that unaccountable rich media barons get to get richer off our backs and are never held to account for the damage they do.

I mean how dare the DM amplify division to tear our country apart like this? And why let them?

OP posts:
DareIask · 08/03/2021 17:20

I really don't like Piers Morgan most of the time but his article in the DM was spot on.

BreakfastClub80 · 08/03/2021 17:22

YANBU but I think it should cover all media. We have defamation laws in this country but they don’t seem to work so well for what becomes systematic bullying.

The media should be able to investigate wealthy, famous, and influential people but current laws don’t seem enough to handle what is effectively long term bullying/stalking behaviour.

FiveGensOfLove · 08/03/2021 17:23

I just don’t believe the treatment of her in the press is driven by racism. I really don’t. It’s not the colour of her skin, but it is likely because she’s culturally ‘different’ as an American.

I’m sad she feels the way she does. But I’m also glad we have a press that isn’t afraid to call out bullshit when it’s obvious.

DareIask · 08/03/2021 17:24

I don't believe it's racially driven either. I think the press and the RF fell over themselves welcoming her.

It's driven by their appalling behaviour.

bestthingsinceslicedbread · 08/03/2021 17:25

@Happyhippy99 what absolute nonsense! Honestly the people who think Megan and Harry shouldn't speak out when they've been treated do badly are very much part if the problem. Take a long hard look at yourself and how you're speaking about someone who said they wanted to die.
You should be ashamed of yourself as should the tabloids and anyone condoning how they've treated Megan.

Op you say ‘other media’. Does that include the Guardian?

devildeepbluesea · 08/03/2021 17:26

I think there's an element of irony in calling for a Royal Commission on this topic...

bestthingsinceslicedbread · 08/03/2021 17:27

And again people saying it isn't racism. Catch yourself on. This country has serious issues with racism and people seem to want to fall over themselves to deny it

Im an averagely intelligent adult who can read all sorts of press articles, watch the news and listen to the interview.

I'm quite capable of reaching my own conclusions, opinions. Why assume we believe everything the press say?!

I don’t think saying the criticism of Meghan isn’t racist is the same as saying the UK doesn’t have a problem with racism Confused. Of course it does. But does it automatically mean that when you criticise someone who is even mixed race that it’s ultimately driven by racism? That’s insane.

The UK press is very racist so absolutely there should be accountability.
The racist abuse targeted at Meghan was astonishing, it even shocked me and I already know that racism is rife within the country.

LizzieSiddal · 08/03/2021 17:37

I hope lots of people have complained about Morgan on TV this morning. He said Meghan never intended to kill herself and was making it all up. He's an utter scum bag.

And yes, there should be an inquiry into the UK press. They decide which government we have and they helped to give us Brexit.

Kljnmw3459 · 08/03/2021 17:40

it's amazing how much DM and the likes seem to get away with.

People say this all the time, but I’ve yet to see an example of it. Yes, she’s been criticised. But nowhere have I seen racist abuse in the papers, directed at her. That’s just not true.
