To think we need a Royal Commission on the Conduct of the Daily Mail and other media?

I see this H&M interview a little differently.

Do you agree there needs to be a commission investigation into the conduct of the media specifically the Daily Mail etc especially after the DM lost its court case?

Previous articles should be produced by them - including when Piers Morgan called on the Queen the take baby Archie away. Because its clear the DM is doubling down on their bullying and gaslighting and it has to be stopped before someone is hurt.

So Piers Morgan once liked Megan until she stopped talking to him because he's... him,... so he's used the paper to hound her for like 3 years?? Is he out of his mind? Are we? What if this were me? You? Your best friend? A girl or boy he tried to pick up in a bar? Another celebrity??

Where does it stop?

Forget the RF and H&M for a second, who gave the DM the right to destroy lives and our institutions?

I just damn well hate bullies, hated them at school, and I think we should all hate them.

Grow up and realise that not all criticism of Meghan Markle is racist. If you are unable to see past her colour.. who then is the racist?

VladmirsPoutine · 08/03/2021 20:24

I’m sure you would like to imagine I’m not an ethnic minority but my Dad is half-Ugandan.

Every. Single. Time. Grin

cinammonbuns · 08/03/2021 20:26

@emilyfrost are you not embarrassed?

cinammonbuns · 08/03/2021 20:27

The comments on this thread were so reasonable until the usual suspects came along. Embarrassed to live here when I read the trite reputed out on her. And none of these posters would ever speak like this in public as they would not like to expose how moronic they really are.

PicsInRed · 08/03/2021 20:28

He should be sacked for that comment alone and should never work in the industry again.

YES

blueleonburger · 08/03/2021 20:29

All the people here saying the press weren’t driven by racism conveniently forget when they said M would taint the RF blood line and the cartoon of baby Archie as a circus monkey

PicsInRed · 08/03/2021 20:33

@Moonmelodies

Is this the same Daily Mail that was alone in their unrelenting pursuit and naming of Stephen Lawrence's murderers?
There aren't racism credits i.e. pop a few kindness coins in the machine and you get a free racist go at someone else.

To be "not racist" is to be "consistently not racist".

Think of it a bit like: not being rapey with one woman doesn't get you 1 free rape with another. One must not rape all the time.

isitfridayyet1 · 08/03/2021 20:34

@FiveGensOfLove well I would expect you to understand then, but unfortunately even ethnic minorities sometimes take the side of racists to appease them.

Embarrassed about what? Confused

FoxyTheFox · 08/03/2021 20:53

If you have two employees, one white and one black, and the white employee was given favourable treatment for certain actions while the black employee was treated negatively for those same actions, the black employee would have a strong case for a discrimination claim. Similarly, a black woman who attempts to enter a club but is told she can't as it is full even though a white woman walks straight in would also have grounds to make a complaint of discrimination. The determining factor in each case in the difference in race.

FiveGensOfLove · 08/03/2021 20:55

@isitfridayyet1 I’m not trying to appease anyone. Why would I? I just think MM isn’t exactly an angel and deserves some of the criticism. Do you honestly think she wants to be left alone by the press? Really? Should everyone write lovely articles about how great she is?

cinammonbuns · 08/03/2021 20:59

@emilyfrost Naomi forming such an opinion about a woman you have never met and proclaiming it with such confidence on a public forum. I should not expect much from DM readers. An IQ study into the readers of that website would have hilarious but unsurprising results.

Anyone who can form such an opinion without ever meeting someone is clearly easily influence by low quality ‘journalism’.

AirBubbleMe · 08/03/2021 21:00

Yes!! Strongly support this.

LastTrainEast · 08/03/2021 21:00

I understand why people think the media go too far, but do we really want the government (or royalty) to decide what they (or anyone) can say? I mean think about it.

I can see it now.

Day one headline: "Government do remarkably well. No one has a bad word to say about them"

Day two "under the current government crime has been reduced to zero.

"oh and we won that pesky war with Oceania" Grin

The real solution is to stop taking the media seriously. Your opinion is worth as much or as little as theirs. The only power they have comes from those who follow and believe everything they say. So the real problem is the readers now the writers.

isitfridayyet1 · 08/03/2021 21:01

@FiveGensOfLove no however, if something is clearly racist no one should try to find 100 reasons why it might not be. There are so many examples of biased reporting and smear campaigns however if you fail to see not one of them as racist then YOU clearly are an apologist.

I must have missed the release of the tape in which she claimed to be an angel, where can I find that please?

AirBubbleMe · 08/03/2021 21:05

@Livelovebehappy

The press are not racist. They are closely regulated and you will not find racist comments made by any of the mainstream media publications. Stupid to suggest otherwise. We need the press to expose issues which are happening, which otherwise would be covered up and hidden.
Just wow at the level of ignorance on display. Have you worked in the British media? I have. It is built on racism.
Mapletreelane · 08/03/2021 21:17

The DMs treatment of Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling has been shocking if you need any evidence of a racist press who are also dead set against any form of social mobility or success.

Having said that I do think they honed in on Meghan as they got bored of Kate as she wasn't giving them anything to criticise. DM need the vicious articles for the clickbait for the advertising revenue.

Quite. Kate wasn't giving them anything to criticise. Meghan was. What has that got to do with race?!
SmokedDuck · 08/03/2021 21:33

@lovelychops

How Piers Morgan can hold his head up in public after the phone hacking scandal let alone have a daytime news programme just shows what is wrong with the UK tabloid media.

Whether you like Harry and Meghan or not, you're a liar if you claim to not see the way she has been vilified by the DM and other scummy press outlets. For those saying its not racially motivated, really?????? The way she has be treated, over every single thing she has done is shameful.

The British press have got away with too much for too long. They are too powerful. They hold too much sway with certain factions of the 'great' British public. Look at the misogyny, then they maintain they uphold family values. The way anything or anyone slightly different is hounded is disgusting.
How can people still read these?

I don't understand ths argument. The press has vilified all kinds of people, and treated lots of female members of the RF, is just the same way. Notably they played Diana and Fergie off of each other for years. If one was up, the other was down, and for the stupidest and pettiest reasons imaginable.

Anyone who didn't expect much the same with anyone Harry married is extremely optimistic, there is no reason to imagine it was cased by some kind of racial bias.

Crankley · 08/03/2021 21:47

I would rather that people stopped looking at the scummy rag and hopefully it would die.

OhWhyNot · 08/03/2021 22:03

YANBU

I hope there is a backlash against Piers Morgan just one co presenter or senior colleague to talk out against him could start the ball rolling. Sadly I think it would have to be a man. I don’t know how people can face working with him his obsession with Megan and the insulting article after article he has written

But he is only part of the problem

Shitfuckcommaetc · 08/03/2021 22:06

There may be racist Undertones to media coverage. I couldn't really say as I don't tend to read alot about them.

But it seems every few weeks there's interviews and photoshoots etc. Why bother courting the media when yoi know what the response will be?

Mally2020 · 08/03/2021 22:09

They haven't lost the court case yet, the judge ruled unlawfully so it's going back to trial

Lampzade · 08/03/2021 22:16

@LizzieSiddal

I hope lots of people have complained about Morgan on TV this morning. He said Meghan never intended to kill herself and was making it all up. He's an utter scum bag.

And yes, there should be an inquiry into the UK press. They decide which government we have and they helped to give us Brexit.

He called Meghan Pinocchio Princess. He said that she was lying about everything , including the racism and mental health issues, I used to find Piers amusing. However, I think that he has burnt his bridges . He is unhinged and needs to be cancelled Heinous man
