What time do you go to bed?

Posting for traffic

I usually go to bed between 1-2am and now I'm thinking this isn't normal after reading many threads where people are going to bed much earlier... the other day I read a thread where op was worried for her adult daughter having to work til 10pm, both my mil and Dm go to bed at 9 ish, my sil is also in bed by 9...

So what time do you go to bed usually?

OP posts:

Usually go up to bed between 11.30 and 12 and sleep between 1 and 2.

Ive tried so hard over the years to bring it forward and get to sleep earlier but I just can't, I only manage to fall sleep earlier if I'm ill.

Time40 · 08/03/2021 02:46

I'm just on the way there now.

I wouldn't worry about what's "normal", OP - just do what works for you.

londonscalling · 08/03/2021 04:00

I'm just going to bed now at 4am. I generally fall asleep on the sofa around 11pm and wake about 3am or 4am and take myself off to bed!

121hugsneeded · 08/03/2021 04:05

I seem to go to bed and still be awake hours later. I crawled in here knackered at 10:30 and it's now 04:00 . ( only just got my phone out to see what the time is)

MrsOmelette · 08/03/2021 06:14

I’m up at 5am every day. I’m in bed generally by 8pm and asleep by 10, late is 11. At least I’m resting if I’m in bed even if I can’t sleep. My husband is generally 10.30-7.

ZaraW · 08/03/2021 07:26

10 pm, wake up at 5.30 am. Start work at 7 am.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/03/2021 07:30

No earlier than 10pm, even if I'm on an early shift the next day. I would normally read for a while before going to sleep. More usually it's about 11pm. I'm a morning person. The rest of the household would be between 1-3am.

@wineandsunshine

I can't believe how late some people go to bed!

I'm in bed by 9-9.30pm and up by 5.45am (full time teacher with four boys so need my sleep!).

I can't believe how early some go to bed.

Lots of people don't get home until after 6pm. If you want to fit in some exercise and watch some TV, as well as having dinner, going to bed at 9 pm is impossible.

DiamondBright · 08/03/2021 08:00

I go to bed anytime after dinner. but I read or watch tv until around 11, depends how tired I am and what time I need to be up the next day.?

RedBlackCandle · 08/03/2021 08:01

I aim for between 10 and 11, but if DD has a bad night and doesn't sleep very quickly I often go to bed between 2 and 3am so I get some time to myself.

JenIsAGem · 08/03/2021 08:12

Bed around 9-10pm and up on and off from
4:30-6:30am then up for the day - I have a 10 month old who is a very early riser Grin

CounsellorTroi · 08/03/2021 09:07

Now that I'm retired, 9pm feels like the middle of the afternoon.

Same here! When working we’d be in bed by 11pm, up at 6.45. No we are both retired more or less, we go to bed between 12-1am. Get up mid morning after tea and toast in bed. I find I’m sleeping so much better because I actually am tired by the time I go to bed.

yearinyearout · 08/03/2021 09:08

About ten. I've got a friend who stays up til 1am but she conks out every afternoon for a massive nap!

Bluesheep8 · 08/03/2021 10:01

9pm at the very latest. Sometimes as early as 7:45pm. Alarm goes off at 6:15 am. I also sleep for up to 2 hours on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons if possible.

PattyPan · 08/03/2021 10:58

@DietrichandDiMaggio some people go to bed early to get up early and exercise in the morning before work, that’s what I used to do back in the days when gyms were allowed Smile

Confusedandshaken · 08/03/2021 12:46

To those of you struggling to drop off to sleep can I tell you what works for me? It's been an absolute game changer, I would often lie awake for a couple of hours, now I'm normally asleep within minutes.

I put an audio book I know really well on my phone but at 0.6 of the normal speed and set a 90 minute timer. If I'm on my own I play it really quietly next to me. If DH is with me I wear a cheap speaker headband from Amazon. It has to be something I know well so I'm not waiting to hear what happens next. For me Harry Potter books are good and so is Anne of Green Gables or Little Women. Sometimes if I'm reading something good during the day I'll play a chapter I listened to earlier. It doesn't really matter what it is. The very slow, predictable, spoken words quiet my busy mind and I'm usually asleep within 5-10 minutes. It also works if I wake up too early in the morning. I go back to the start of what I listened to the night before and I sleep peacefully until I'm ready to wake up.

LeSquigh · 08/03/2021 12:59

I work shifts so my sleeping routine is quite all over the place but I try to get at least a few nights a week in bed by 10pm and that makes quite a bit of difference to me. Some nights I am up until 2am though and always regret it!

Magnificentmug12 · 08/03/2021 13:06

Was up at 6- kids first day back at school and I was a little too ambitious in my “new start” and went out for a wary morning run!

Legs tired, trying to kee my eyes open....I’ll be in bed for 9 tonight!

ilikebungalows · 08/03/2021 13:25

@CounsellorTroi. You get up that early? Time to confess.....I don't surface till lunchtime. Well, in winter. Might try for an early start in summer lol.

Aroundthebend · 08/03/2021 13:29

Go to bed at about 11 and watch something until about 1 am, usually up by 9, but this needs to change as son going back to school, so I’d say I watch something till 12 and up at 8. That is the plan!

FolkyFoxFace · 08/03/2021 13:52

I can't sleep before midnight, no matter how hard I try. I'd say between midnight and 1 - 2amish. I've always been the same. No problem getting up early though. Before lockdown I was up at 6am every day, now it's more like 7. Saturday I'm usually up at 8am, and Sunday I quite like a lie in until 10ish... although I'm usually awake by 9. Never been a napper either. Apparently I hated bed time as a child, too - I remember my dad sneaking me torches so that I could read in bed until I was tired, on the proviso that I'd get up for school. Lying awake desperately waiting to fall asleep was like torture for me.

JustDanceAddict · 08/03/2021 13:52

10.30ish. Was earlier when I had to be up for work at 6.30.
Usually awake by 7.30 as I read in bed etc.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 09/03/2021 18:50

Yes, fair enough, but presumably nobody gets up and watches a film or drama at 5.30 am. I could watch TV, go to bed at 11 and get up at 6 to exercise, but I wouldn't want to go to bed at 9, get up at 4.30 to exercise, then watch a film, before getting ready for work.

Peachylovesherpoochy · 09/03/2021 18:53

About 10 ish and up at 6am - I just feel better in that pattern

Slippy78 · 09/03/2021 18:59

4AM. But I don't finish work until 2300.
