What are your thoughts on giving a child the day off school on their birthday? If they are asking for the day off..

Absolutely not.

Soubriquet · 06/03/2021 09:38

No way!

Before lockdown, I might have considered it, but they have already lost so much time at school that I wouldn’t let them stay home for their birthday

Carolina24 · 06/03/2021 09:38

No, I wouldn’t. It’s a frivolous reason to miss school. Besides, it’s not like they could do anything except sit miserably at home so they might as well go in and see their friends!

megletsecond · 06/03/2021 09:39

Nope.

TakeTheCuntOutOfScunthorpe · 06/03/2021 09:39

No way.

Chloemol · 06/03/2021 09:39

No

SleepingStandingUp · 06/03/2021 09:39

How old are they and heat day is their birthday? We're considering lying to DS about which actual day is his birthday....

sherrystrull · 06/03/2021 09:39

No.

Celebrate at the weekend.

SnowyBranches · 06/03/2021 09:39

Absolutely not

Why?!

Op, what would your child do instead?

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 06/03/2021 09:41

No. If every child did this it means hundreds of extra unauthorised absences which means they get pushed down the ranks in the tables etc. Surely they can celebrate at the weekend

Greenmarmalade · 06/03/2021 09:41

Go for it. Unless in a gcse year.

Scarby9 · 06/03/2021 09:41

No.

scaredsadandstuck · 06/03/2021 09:41

Nope. Off to school to see their friends and then plan something nice after school and on the weekend. Agree with PP that it won't be fun sitting at home with no one to hang out with anyway.

Forgetaboutme · 06/03/2021 09:42

I had always said no and made my kids go in but this year when my oldest turned 14 i let him stay off. Hes a shy kid and came home horrified last year from getting 'the dumps' from so many kids because a friend put his birthday to everyone in the year on snapchat.

RampantIvy · 06/03/2021 09:43

No. I wouldn't do it. Being at home on a school day isn't exactly a novelty right now.

Givemeabreak88 · 06/03/2021 09:44

He doesn’t like school hence him asking for the day off. He will be turning 7. Just to add he’s been at school throughout so he hasn’t been at home.

I want to say no...

But we did once. On the term dates we received it was an INSET, so we booked a trip to Disneyland (long weekend). Then they changed the INSET. We weren't the only ones and the school authorised the holidays for everyone.

School on your birthday can be quite fun. (Except the year I had my GCSE maths and French exams... But my friends and I had birthday cake for lunch between the exams)

Lumene · 06/03/2021 09:45

No way.

Newkitchen123 · 06/03/2021 09:45

No

HeddaGarbled · 06/03/2021 09:46

Still no. Why doesn’t he like school?

SleepingStandingUp · 06/03/2021 09:46

Why?!
Because he hates school @FreddyTheFlute and it can be hard enough to get him out the door as it is, I'm expecting it to be worse when they go back next week, and the idea of on top of that being all "no presents, no cake etc until you come home" sees especially mean after a frankly shit 12+ months and his second birthday in partial lockdown

greensnail · 06/03/2021 09:46

No. My DD1 has a birthday that always falls in school holidays and used to be upset she never got to go to school on her birthday 🤣

Givemeabreak88 · 06/03/2021 09:46

He’s never liked school since starting but that’s a whole other thread.

Not a chance.
Not liking school needs looking at and working to solve. He’s got years to go.
