Mine are:

Being exceptionally good at slicing bread (straight, even slices every time, even on squishy, unevenly shaped loaves)

Uncannily accurate at guessing the time when I haven’t looked at a clock for hours - I’m never more than a few minutes out.

Tell me the things you can do that are not that impressive!

I’m really good at reversing into my partners car without leaving a mark on either. I’m also really good at pretending I don’t know what the bang was that my partner is sure he heard just before I came in.

thenewduchessofhastings · 05/03/2021 21:20

I can speed read;if that's even the right phrase for it;my husband is an exceptionally slow reader and he gets annoyed that I can read lightening fast.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/03/2021 21:20

I can recite the alphabet backwards very quickly.

I can remember people’s birthdays. If you tell me your birthday I wouldn’t forget it even if I have no reason to remember, including Dh’s colleagues I’ve never met or classmates of the dc form when they were small. My 17 year old ds seems to have inherited it! We spoke about it over last night and he can remember birthdates from children in his First school.

Thighdentitycrisis · 05/03/2021 21:21

I can blow bubbles

(Disgusting)

CrayonInThreeBits · 05/03/2021 21:22

Wish I had this magical time-knowing skill. I sometimes look at analogue clocks and am not sure whether they're showing a.m. or p.m. 😒

Tankflybosswalkjam · 05/03/2021 21:22

As long as I don’t have to run, or bend my knees, I am an extremely good catch. My kids throw things at me constantly to try and catch me out but they rarely do. I lost to an oven glove on Boxing Day, but in my defence it was aimed at the back of my head.

I’m also a very good shot and always win at nerf wars, even when they give me a shitty pistol and they have anti aircraft guns. This pleases me and I gloat relentlessly about it.

CycleWoman · 05/03/2021 21:23

I absolutely excel at packing a bag for an outing. Lunch, snacks, drinks, spare kids clothes, wipes, weather appropriate accessories. Its all there. Packed to perfection.

Don’t dare rummage in that bag to look for something and mess with my system.

GreenLeafTurnip · 05/03/2021 21:25

I work part time and I'm really.good at working when the weather is good and having my days off when the weather is crap 👍

Stovetopespresso · 05/03/2021 21:27

@Snowdrop30

I'm the Stain Removal Queen
ink stain on sofa! help me!!

also....Good at naming late 80's songs after 2 seconds of intros

MsJuniper · 05/03/2021 21:28

I can pick up exactly £20 in pound coins from a till drawer without counting.

GreenLeafTurnip · 05/03/2021 21:29

Oh I've actually just thought of something real! I'm really good at finding things. My husband loses stuff all the time and I can find whatever it is within minutes. Every time. It embarrasses him 🤣

MrsJackRackham · 05/03/2021 21:29

I can sight judge weights and measurements almost exactly. I once cut a black pudding yolk into 24 equal pieces.

ChewedClickyPen · 05/03/2021 21:30

I can drive in the snow really well. Really deep snow, slippy snow, blizzardy snow, any kind of snow. So well in fact, that if you ask my mother how I have made her proud, she will talk about the one day I had to drive her around in the snow 4 years ago. She will not mention any of my actual life accomplishments. Only this.

To be fair, I am pretty good at it.

OverTheRubicon · 05/03/2021 21:31

I can throw things with my toes, with great speed and accuracy.

Can raise my eyebrow, took me ages to learn it as a teenager, and I'm still happy about it.

InconvenientPeg · 05/03/2021 21:32

@Orosei

I am really good at getting everything into the freezer. DH insists everything won't fit but everything DOES.

I can read really fast and take in all signs and information around me without really consciously reading. I don't actually feel this is a skill but if I'm ever anywhere new with people they ask questions which seem inane to me "ooh which way is the conference room" or "how much is the parking" or "what time does it close" etc and I don't understand how they don't know, we've walked past the sign that says the answer. DH says not everyone reads every word that they walk past.

This is me too. I feel like I never stop taking info in, and I can't understand how people don't read words that are just there!

I also am the master of packing the car boot for holiday.

And I have this dumb thing where I can do all sorts of random crafts/ skills really well first time, but then can't repeat them. That's annoying!!

Justmeandmycoffee · 05/03/2021 21:33

I can tell you what coin you just dropped by the sound of it. 😂

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 05/03/2021 21:34

I can reverse a trailer like an absolute boss. However, I also walk in door frames on a daily basis, so it's not like I have splendid spatial awareness.

DidgeDoolittle · 05/03/2021 21:34

I can read very quickly.
I am also very good at relaxing and zoning out. I gave birth without any pain medication at all. I zoned out, fell asleep and pushed the baby out in my sleep. Didn't manage it for my next 2 births though.

StealthPolarBear · 05/03/2021 21:34

I can cram as much as is needed into a car. Whether as a family were going in a week's holiday, or whether I'm going to the tip with rubbish piled around my head, it all squeezes in.

Mylittlesandwich · 05/03/2021 21:39

I'm a quick reader. Used to wind teachers up when I was at school.

I can read upside down but not sure if that's a skill, I assume most people can?

I remember song lyrics from years ago and I remember them well. Absolutely useless to be honest.

My mum has much more useful skills. She can pick up a bag of coins and accurately tell you how much is in it. She can pick up a pounds worth of any kind of silver and £100 bundles of notes.

Eckhart · 05/03/2021 21:39

@honeylulu

I can remember people's birthdays and their children's birthdays and names even if I've had nothing to do with them for years. I suspect I have ASD (my son is diagnosed). This power comes across a bit stalkerish and I have to hide it!

Can also make amazing pastry as have very cold hands.

Can also untangle all sorts of knots. I kind of hyper focus on it and have long nails which helps!

Ooh! We are the same, all 3 plus ASD self-suspicion!

If I think of someone I used to know, their birthday comes into my head at the same time as their name. I have no idea why. I don't try.

Superstardjs · 05/03/2021 21:43

Sad many of my super powers are clearly not mine alone.
In addition to a few already mentioned, I offer: stopping babies crying.
2 I wish I had: poached egg making and loaf slicing.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/03/2021 21:44

Another who can remember conversations verbatim as long ago as 1998.

Epic Jigsaw Skillz and do them for relaxation more than puzzle solving.

I am amazing at an iPhone App Game called Cooking Craze.

I am good at explaining archaic British History and Politics in a really easy way to people who have no knowledge of why things became the way they are and question why things are as they are

Eg How We Became A Constitutional Monarchy

But then I had a fucking amazing History teacher so thats why.

Meercatmama · 05/03/2021 21:45

I am a really good map reader and if I have no map will generally get us to the place we want and back . Dont know how I do it just can. Also have directed son home after he has been diverted by phone with me on loud speaker as he told me the signs. However I also can tell you most of the motorways in England and the direction in England and towns cities they meet, Tend to be good at world maps and countires My dad had this abiity as well. Really bad with recognising people faces but my husband is brilliant
Husband is also brlliant at recognising songs by opening bars and remembers lyrics to songs Not so good at the the more modern ones as he does not listen to them Very good at 1960- 2010. Great in pub quizes
I know if I have read a book before even if the cover is different or blank by reading the opening page or two.

Youngest son sees shades of colour that I cant even see No wonder he is a colourist of hair but he has always been able to do it.
Strange talents

SusannahSophia · 05/03/2021 21:46

I am excellent at not remembering anything about a book I’ve previously read until about halfway through when suddenly I realise I’ve wasted around 10 hours. That’s really unimpressive, right? If I could forget it completely I’d save a fortune on books.
