Mine are:

Being exceptionally good at slicing bread (straight, even slices every time, even on squishy, unevenly shaped loaves)

Uncannily accurate at guessing the time when I haven’t looked at a clock for hours - I’m never more than a few minutes out.

Tell me the things you can do that are not that impressive!

Ooo I can also tell which of my co-workers is around by the sound of their keys and/or footfall.

I can do it by the sound of their knock Grin
CMOTDibbler · 05/03/2021 21:47

I'm really excellent at testing product, and can make it go wrong in all kinds of new ways.

I can read faster upside down and in mirror writing than most people can read normally

needadvice54321 · 05/03/2021 21:47

I can spot a spelling mistake a mile off, drives me nuts!

notanothertakeaway · 05/03/2021 21:47

I can do a one handed cartwheel

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 05/03/2021 21:48

I have an excellent sense of direction. I was once with a friend and her friend, who was driving - and she got lost driving through a forest (not UK), we got to a crossroads and she had no idea which direction to go in - I knew.

it took me a while to work out why - but my dad was brilliant at pointing out things and we went for a lot of walks. so the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, where the shadows fell etc. was part of the commentary of my childhood walks, so I obviously just KNEW that if the shadows were pointing in one direction and I knew the time then I knew where North and South were. So I knew we had to drive to the right to get to the ferry because it was on the south of the island and I could see where the shadows were falling and it was the afternoon...

notanothertakeaway · 05/03/2021 21:49

And I can recognise people by the way they walk, before I can see their faces

Unsuremover · 05/03/2021 21:49

I can untangle anything, jewellery, Christmas lights, cables etc. I can work out what authors are fans of without knowing. Hard to explain but if I’ve read a few I realise they are into sailing or linguistics or whatever (when that’s not what the books are about).

TheNationsFavourite · 05/03/2021 21:50

It's very rare that I get a handwritten envelope through the post that I don't recognise the handwriting.

Breakfastburrito · 05/03/2021 21:50

These are all amazing and not underwhelming at all! I’m in awe of your talents!

I have that in built sense of direction and just know which way to go.

dementedma · 05/03/2021 21:54

Well I feel very inferior now. I dont think I have a hidden skill unless its rolling my tongue front to back, not side to side.
I also have very good hearing and probably could hear a pin drop

CornishPastyDownUnder · 05/03/2021 21:54

i remember birthdays-its a habit that stayed with me after being obsessed with starsigns as a teen🤣...Also wake up minutes before alarm, can guess the time within 15 or so minutes&spot spelling errors..I get lost whenever i go somewhere new and take months to find my way on a new driving route-can anyone swap me or shall i remain velcroed to my google maps forever😄

Cisonostatibellagiorni · 05/03/2021 21:56

I'm a time-teller too! Also timers - I'll stand up usually about 5-10 seconds before before the timer on the cooker goes off, every time. Freaks my husband out (but he has absolutely no body clock)

I'm a natural cook. It sounds very up myself and I wouldn't say I'm MasterChef level but I'm just very instinctive in timings and seasoning. I wouldn't even say I'm self taught because I've never tried to "learn". I can just look at proportions and know what to put it.

JustAnotherBrick · 05/03/2021 21:56

I can solve a Rubik’s cube, usually in under 60 seconds.

I’m a very good jam maker. We are overrun with the stuff as a result.

I can cut a piece of material or wrapping paper in a dead straight line. This comes from a Saturday job many years ago in a fabric shop where the owner used to dock the cost of the material from our pay if we were over 1/2 an inch out!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 05/03/2021 21:57

I can do a weird thing with my tongue I have yet to see anyone else manage (can make it both thin and very flat and very thick and pointy without its length changing at all) which I suppose is a skill?

indemMUND · 05/03/2021 22:00

I can catch pretty much anything thrown at/near me without thinking about it or looking at it. With either hand. My best was a pair of scissors thrown across a room that I caught by the handle.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 05/03/2021 22:04

I play a mean game of scrabble and am disappointed to get less than 350 points in a 2 player game. Frequently get 400-500.

I am crazy fast at reading and typing. Not a photographic memory but if I’ve seen something, a face, a ppt slide etc. I remember all the details very vividly, just a visual learner I guess.

MiddletownDreams · 05/03/2021 22:04

I am really good at recognising voices. I almost always know who is doing voice-overs and narration on TV. Unfortunately, my memory for names is shit, so I can't put a name to the voice half the time Grin

KeepWashingThoseHands · 05/03/2021 22:07

There are some fabulous skills on here! I like the idea of an exhibition in a post-COVID world, it’d be like an equivalent of X-MAN, but less dangerous and with more tea/cakes Grin

RUOKHon · 05/03/2021 22:08

Uncannily accurate at guessing the time when I haven’t looked at a clock for hours - I’m never more than a few minutes out.

Omg, omg, omg me too! My mum has this ability too! I think there's a secret magical society of us!!!

^
Can I join??!! I have always been really good at this. I can guess how much time has passed to the minute. My related talent is that I’m always exactly on time. Even if I try to be deliberately late (if I know the person I’m meeting is always ten mins late, for example).

lljkk · 05/03/2021 22:08

I can run... I mean, it works out at just barely under 12 minutes/mile, but I'm dead proud of that. Why shouldn't I be?

I'm very good at guessing the time accurately if I wake up in middle of night, usually within 15 minutes.

I used to tie knots for fun as a kid (& untie them) so I'm amazing at undoing terrible knots.

I secretly covet the skill to reverse trailers . We don't have a trailer, btw, I just think that's a way cool skill to have.

Sgtmajormummy · 05/03/2021 22:09

I know when a piece of paper will wrap a present, even if it means turning it diagonally (reminded of that today, to the millimeter).
I’m good at lighting and tending a fire.
I’m a skilled whistler.
Smile

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 05/03/2021 22:10

I grew a bird of paradise plant that sprouts me at least one flower stem each winter. This is not in specialised horticultural conditions and a constantly humidified hothouse, but a south facing window in a normal conservatory. Go me!

My handwriting is copperplate. My notebook looks like a Victorian Will. I'm also another speed-reader.

I write poetry and draw portraits.

I know when it's going to rain. Even in sunny conditions before the clouds come, I get a taut feeling across my temples. If it's going to be a very heavy deluge or thunderstorm I get a full scale headache. My DH calls me the weather witch 🧙‍♀️

Similarly, my mood, energy (whether lethargic or restive) and ability to sleep seems to coincide with the lunar cycles. Not sure if this is a 'skill' or not, but I'm more energetic and creative during the waxing phase.

I do a mean Bengali curry and lovely, fluffy poached eggs using a pan of water only.

I can't for the life of me fold a fucking fitted sheet. How is this even possible? 😭
