I was a full time carer for my mum up until October last year.
I received a text saying book my vaccine.
I rang up surgery and told them I was no longer a carer and the man told me that as I had received the link I could still book my apt if I could make any of the time slots.
I booked my apt.
I rang up to ask how it would work with my second dose and the receptionist said as I wasn't now listed as a carer I wouldn't be getting the link through for second vaccine.
Aibu to be annoyed here ?
How will I get my second jab ?
It will be months now.
Aibu to complain?
I rang to do the right thing and be honest and it was the receptionist (male ) who told me to book.

How long ago did you have the first jab?

PotteringAlong · 01/03/2021 18:01

My appointment for my second dose was booked at the same time as my first dose.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:01

Only 3 weeks ago but I was just asking if In 9 weeks would I be contacted.
She said no as I'm now not a carer??
But I said someone told me to get the first vaccine which I did.

Sorry, pressed post too soon! I meant to say hopefully your appointment will have been automatically done and, whatever the receptionist says, you will just get it through the post.

PotteringAlong · 01/03/2021 18:03

Once you’ve had the first dose I cannot see the logic of not giving you the second.

WorraLiberty · 01/03/2021 18:03

Did you ask how you will get your second dose?

superduster · 01/03/2021 18:03

How old are you? Most people will be have had jabs by the time 9 weeks comes along so its likely you will get a second jab at one of the hubs rather than the Drs. I don't think its a big problem.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:04

Yes she said it will be when it's my groups turn.
Which will probably be months as I'm 36 with no health conditions.
Will it still work?

EBearhug · 01/03/2021 18:04

Can't you go on the link again, if that's how you booked your first one?

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:04

No tried to go on the link and it just says
Thanks for booking your vaccine (with old apt details ) and your gp will be in touch to book second.

This is quite an unusual circumstance and you have a bit of time before it needs sorting so you might want to write to the practice manager explaining the situation and asking for chapter and verse. The NHS are stipulating that second jabs should be given in around 12 weeks, and there are plenty of people who have received their jabs 'out of turn' through errors or through snapping up otherwise wasted jabs at the end of a vaccination day. The receptionist may not have the full facts.

lanthanum · 01/03/2021 18:06

It may well turn out that the calls for second vaccines are done via the list of who has had the first one, rather than through the GP lists.
It sounds as if people will be prioritised when the 12 weeks is nearly up (so don't book a holiday for then).

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:08

I think il wait the 9 weeks and then call up if I haven't heard anything.
The receptionist didn't seem sure what advice she was to give out.
So fingers crossed it will be resolved

I would speak to the practice manager and say you accepted the first dose on the pretence that you would get the second as stipulated by the manufacturer of the vaccine instructions.

Or something like that? Maybe make it sound better than how I put it.

Hopdathelf · 01/03/2021 18:10

Is it significant that the receptionist was male?

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:13

@Hopdathelf yes ,my point was I spoke to the male receptionist to discuss first apt
The second was the female (there's only 2 receptionists at my practice as it's small )

Will they not use the list of people that have already had the jab, they must have a list to know which jab to give the second time round. I haven't got my second jab date and thats normal for gp booked vaccs.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/03/2021 18:15
  • I would speak to the practice manager and say you accepted the first dose on the pretence that you would get the second as stipulated by the manufacturer of the vaccine instructions.

'Understanding' not 'pretence', the OP didn't pretend anything.
Hopefully this is just confusion on the part of the receptionist, but of course anyone who had the first jab needs to get the second one on the appropriate schedule.

If you don't get called at the right time, you need to escalate this, ask to talk to the practice manager and/or GP.

VainAbigail · 01/03/2021 18:16

@Hopdathelf

Is it significant that the receptionist was male?
OP has put this as she is referring to 2 different receptionists.
HUCKMUCK · 01/03/2021 18:17

You’ll be called for your second dose according to when you had your first, not according to which category you are/were in.

nannapat58 · 01/03/2021 18:18

My appt for 2nd dose was made with first dose

HUCKMUCK · 01/03/2021 18:20

Sorry posted to soon. Once they switch to calling people for 2nd dose they won’t use the same system as they have for first. They run a report in their it system to see who had their first dose the first week and they’ll call those people the first week they start the 2nd doses and so on for each week. Does that make sense? It’s very possible that the reception team aren’t aware exactly how the recall system works so won’t realise this. Duff info from them but I’d be confident you won’t get left waiting for your 2nd appointment.

rubydoobydoo · 01/03/2021 18:21

I had my first through work as one of the last minute leftover ones and didn't have a second appointment then booked (although they are doing that now for colleagues).
There's a booking line for the area and I called and spoke to them rather than my GP - I just have to ring up about a week before it's due and they'll book me in then, you can likely do the same!

HUCKMUCK · 01/03/2021 18:21

Did you go to a mass vacc site? Most GP sites have not been allowed to book people for dose 2 as they can’t guarantee vaccine delivery that far ahead to their sites.
prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:24

Thank you everyone.
I was worrying myself about it.
I had my first vaccine had a local primary care centre.
They were getting through hundreds a hour apparently.
It's quite a big site.
