GP won't give me second dose of vaccine, aibu here ?

I was a full time carer for my mum up until October last year.
I received a text saying book my vaccine.
I rang up surgery and told them I was no longer a carer and the man told me that as I had received the link I could still book my apt if I could make any of the time slots.
I booked my apt.
I rang up to ask how it would work with my second dose and the receptionist said as I wasn't now listed as a carer I wouldn't be getting the link through for second vaccine.
Aibu to be annoyed here ?
How will I get my second jab ?
It will be months now.
Aibu to complain?
I rang to do the right thing and be honest and it was the receptionist (male ) who told me to book.

I’m embarrassed for you that you took the slot

Hi Auntie Pam 👋
@oohmamama I was extremely grateful to be receiving it.
I didn't want to turn it down.
I bet you were.

Some of the GP sites are also large in size as multiple GPs (PCNs) have joined together, they’re not the same as the ‘large vaccination’ sites booked through the website, as far as I know they do not send texts and they book both injections. The critical message is that if you only booked one you will have another text to book the second!

oohmamama · 01/03/2021 19:10
@oohmamama and others criticising what the GP surgery told her to do - loads of centres are running way below capacity.
The large centre I went to estimates that they are primarily operating at 5 to 10% of capacity.
I suspect the reason for the wait (despite them cracking on at around half a million a day) is the admin trying to keep up with the places available - arguing the toss with with the GP is more likely to have extended other peoples wait than made a new place available.
Below capacity - fine, no problem.

Cock up because OP is still registered as a carer - not fine.

@oohmamama

This is a mass vaccination programme. It works by vaccinating as many of us as possible as quickly as possible - because the more people vaccinated the safer we all are, and the quicker the country can get back off its knees. A mass vaccination problem cannot be perfect. Some people will be called early. If you are called, what you are supposed to do is take the appointment regardless of whether you think you have been called early or not. A vaccination drive that needs to administer two jabs to literally TENS OF MILLIONS of people cannot cope with individuals ringing up to faff about querying their appointments - all this does is slow down the system and create missed appointments.

So, oohmamama - when you get called, your job is to turn up and take it, not waste everyone's time by querying it, just as the OP's surgery told her to do.

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 19:11

Well, I'm sorry OP but you will get the 2nd jab when it's time!

You have said you are no longer a carer.

So you will get the next jab in 9 weeks like everyone else who had the first one 3 weeks ago.

Why are you so confused and upset?

They say it's more effective with a longer gap anyway.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/03/2021 19:11

Yeah, that's it @BungleandGeorge
Booked 1, went in, they asked which surgery, got a jab, buggered off. Simple and really pleasant volunteers and staff. I was really impressed by the efficiency of in and out!

Doireallyneedaname · 01/03/2021 19:12

I don’t even think that’s possible. Once you’re on the vaccine list, you can’t be taken off it.

Attached is regarding shielding and removing patients from this list, but I can’t see it being any different for you.

Receptionist sounds outrageous. I’d put in a complaint for the stress and worry caused.

BungleandGeorge · 01/03/2021 19:13

If you’ve had a vaccine, you won’t come up in the list with your age group (unless both things happen close together and there’s a crossover), otherwise people would be getting invitations all over the place!

Jeremyironseverything · 01/03/2021 19:17

I should imagine that if you catch covid and they've allowed more than the recommended 12 weeks to go by, there would be a case to answer to. Leave it till nearer the time and if they still say no, then play this angle.

VinylDetective · 01/03/2021 19:17

@SundayTeatime

Even mass vac sites aren’t giving out a second appointment date. My elderly parents were done at a mass site and have been told to wait to be contacted to hear about second jab.
Some are. I had my first two weeks ago and my second is on 7 May.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/03/2021 19:18

Lucky!

diddl · 01/03/2021 19:18

If the 2nd vaccine isn't done with a certain timeframe, does the 1st one need doing again?

If not, would having to wait months matter?

You're still more fortunate than a lot of people!

It depends on how long passes but no, the protection slowly tapers so it’s not like it fall away at 12 weeks and you go back to the start.

Yes they are. I was given both appointment dates at the same time.
FedNlanders · 01/03/2021 19:34

I had first in jan at hospital...not managed to book 2nd the app won't let me book it and gp said just wait.

My husband got his at a mass vaccination site and was given appointment for 2nd dose at the same time as the first. I had mine later at the same centre and had to log on the next day to get my 2nd appointment. Don't know if it varies between centres but we definitely got ours.
ThatDamnKrampus · 01/03/2021 19:39

I was given my appointment as a walk in (didn’t book my appointment) as a carer. I was told to go to the online system and I would then be in it which I did and was (eventually!).

You need to go to the nhs book appointment site and you will now (or very soon) be able to book your second dose.

SundayTeatime · 01/03/2021 19:40

Obviously some mass vaccine sites are giving out dates for the second. But clearly not all. I don’t know what makes the difference. My elderly parents are still waiting to hear about the second jab and will attend when they are told to.

I booked both my appointments online at the same time.
Alwayswrongneverright · 01/03/2021 19:45

Strangely enough, I was called by surgery today to book my first jab, I was very confused as I am similar to you, I don't fall into any category to be getting it done yet other than the fact I'm on the carers list apparently which is from I helped look after a family member who died several years ago. I didn't know I was on any such list. I was very upfront and told them that and therefore I'm not entitled to a jab. They told me as far as they're concerned I'm listed as a carer so should have it, but to change my records AFTER my 2nd dose

endlesswicker · 01/03/2021 19:55

How odd.

Everyone I know who's had the first one already has the appointment date for the second. I watched DH book his - he booked both at the same time online.

How odd that you are unable to read the previous posts which say this is normal. How odd that other people have a different experience to you.
FedNlanders · 01/03/2021 20:04

At walk in appointments in January they were not taking 2nd bookings at the time.
