I was a full time carer for my mum up until October last year.
I received a text saying book my vaccine.
I rang up surgery and told them I was no longer a carer and the man told me that as I had received the link I could still book my apt if I could make any of the time slots.
I booked my apt.
I rang up to ask how it would work with my second dose and the receptionist said as I wasn't now listed as a carer I wouldn't be getting the link through for second vaccine.
Aibu to be annoyed here ?
How will I get my second jab ?
It will be months now.
Aibu to complain?
I rang to do the right thing and be honest and it was the receptionist (male ) who told me to book.

@ErrolTheDragon

* I would speak to the practice manager and say you accepted the first dose on the pretence that you would get the second as stipulated by the manufacturer of the vaccine instructions. *

'Understanding' not 'pretence', the OP didn't pretend anything.
Hopefully this is just confusion on the part of the receptionist, but of course anyone who had the first jab needs to get the second one on the appropriate schedule.

If you don't get called at the right time, you need to escalate this, ask to talk to the practice manager and/or GP.

I presume the pp meant ‘pretext’ but it was autocorrected to ‘pretence’
partyatthepalace · 01/03/2021 18:52

You will get the second jab 12 weeks later, the first jab won’t be effective if you don’t. The receptionist is just being unclear.

Unlike the central booking system, GPS aren’t automatically booking the second jab with the first. You’ll be notified later - just chase it 2 or 3 weeks before the 12 week deadline.

oohmamama · 01/03/2021 18:52
@oohmamama it wasn't anybody's fault.
I was offered the vaccine.
So I took it
Surely the more people who get it the better.
I'm a key worker and I deal with hundreds of people a day.
Surely me getting the vaccine is a good thing.
You seem to be missing the point.

It wasn't your turn.

You knew that.

You took the jab.

Key worker? Thousands of us out there still unvaccinated.

You should have waited your turn.

Doesn't make you a bad person but it is bad form.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/03/2021 18:53

Maybe booking the second at large centres is dependent on whether you do it online or not?
When I booked mine there were several centres to choose from - and one of the reasons for choosing to go to a large centre was that the GP surgery was so bloody vague about booking the second one.

Fandabydosey · 01/03/2021 18:54

My mum is front line nursing staff she had her 1st jab in December she is still waiting for the 2nd one 😳😒

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/03/2021 18:54

@oohmamama stop trying to make OP feel guilty.
She was invited, they said go, she went. Afaik if you refuse, they take it as a refusal. Many people were in a similar situation.
Just stop.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/03/2021 18:54

I'm embarrassed for you that you took the slot.

I'm embarrassed for you that you are petty enough to begrudge someone a vaccine WHEN THEY WERE TOLD TO BOOK IT. Has it escaped you that the more people who are vaccinated the better?

Pixie2015 · 01/03/2021 18:54

That’s so wrong for any first dose given there will be a second one planned in the centre’s delivery. You need to get in touch with practice manager

Cookie9214 · 01/03/2021 18:54

How did you book? When booking on nhs page you have to book second dose so I assume the doctors have booked it? I would be persistent. Yes you are no longer a carer but you were told to have the first dose and having the second is very beneficial. What happens when it comes to your age group vaccinations and you are called up (no idea how old you are). Will it be treated as if if you haven’t had it before or your second dose? Will you end up with 3 doses (obviously don’t have 3 doses!!).

CharlotteRose90 · 01/03/2021 18:55

My second dose I booked along with the first . Mines due in May. You’ve had the first dose they won’t leave you stranded now.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:56

@oohmamama I was extremely grateful to be receiving it.
I didn't want to turn it down.

Ignore advice to ring your GP practice, they are incredibly busy at the moment! The system is that you will be picked up automatically from data held on a different system to your medical records so they won’t even know what your group is. They will just have a computer generated list of people needing second doses based on what they have already administered. Many people have not been vaccinated at their own GP. If you haven’t heard anything and you’re a week before your 12 week deadline give them a ring then.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:57

@Cookie9214 I booked through a text message and I was taken to a website (accu.xthirdpartynhs) or something along those lines.

CaffineismyBFF · 01/03/2021 18:57

Another here who has booked both appointments at the same time. I'm a carer too.

Exactly the same op. So don't stress it yet.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/03/2021 18:59

@oohmamama and others criticising what the GP surgery told her to do - loads of centres are running way below capacity.
The large centre I went to estimates that they are primarily operating at 5 to 10% of capacity.
I suspect the reason for the wait (despite them cracking on at around half a million a day) is the admin trying to keep up with the places available - arguing the toss with with the GP is more likely to have extended other peoples wait than made a new place available.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/03/2021 18:59

Give it up oohmamama. Thousands of people have been vaccinated out of strict sequence. You are making yourself look rather unpleasant.

SendMeHome · 01/03/2021 18:59

You’ll be called for your second dose according to when you had your first, not according to which category you are/were in.

This is correct. Your status for the second jab doesn’t matter, you’ll be called when it’s due based on when you had your first.

Florelei · 01/03/2021 19:00

I honestly think it just depends re the second appointment. My DM booked both of her appointments at the same time at a national vaccine hub. I also got given both of my appointments at the same time at a local vaccination site.

CharlotteRose90 · 01/03/2021 19:01

I actually can’t believe people having a moan at Op for having the vaccine. Give it a break if you haven’t been called yet take it up with your GP don’t start nagging others. She had a right to the vaccine so had it end of story. People are so nasty sometimes

BungleandGeorge · 01/03/2021 19:02
@Cookie9214 I booked through a text message and I was taken to a website (accu.xthirdpartynhs) or something along those lines.
This is a GP centre. You will get another text to book your second. They are planned to be 12 weeks apart, so it will probably not be until around 11 weeks. People saying they booked 1st and 2nd appointments booked with large vaccination sites which are different to GPs, the booking is via 119 or the website

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/03/2021 19:03

@BungleandGeorge I had sam emessage but went to massive vac site.

starfishmummy · 01/03/2021 19:05

@PotteringAlong

My appointment for my second dose was booked at the same time as my first dose.
Not everywhere is doing that.
Yellow85 · 01/03/2021 19:05

It’s definitely scheduled based on the date of your first vaccine regardless of where it was administered or your grouping.

Another important point to remember this that your protection from the first doesn’t fall off a cliff edge at 12 weeks, it slowly tapers off (based on research thus far) so I wouldn’t worry too much about it being an exact 12 weeks. But should be there or there about dependant on supply and schedules.

purplebagladylovesgin · 01/03/2021 19:07

If you can book your vaccine (second) when your age group is called it will be almost exactly the right time.

We are on schedule to vaccinate adults in the uk pretty quickly.

We have achieved the vaccination of 20 million roughly since late December. We have 24 million to go. That's approximately 9 Weeks more and vaccine centres are being ramped up many notches to cover second jabs. Even if it's delayed slightly, you should be able to book in your age cohort and go in for your second jab.

You should be able to go onto the NHS booking site when it displays your age group and put in your NHS number to book.
