I was a full time carer for my mum up until October last year.
I received a text saying book my vaccine.
I rang up surgery and told them I was no longer a carer and the man told me that as I had received the link I could still book my apt if I could make any of the time slots.
I booked my apt.
I rang up to ask how it would work with my second dose and the receptionist said as I wasn't now listed as a carer I wouldn't be getting the link through for second vaccine.
Aibu to be annoyed here ?
How will I get my second jab ?
It will be months now.
Aibu to complain?
I rang to do the right thing and be honest and it was the receptionist (male ) who told me to book.

I strongly suspect you making a big fuss about nothing here OP.

Be grateful you've had your first jab. Email your practice manager telling them what happened and when you had the jab. Ask them to make sure you are on the list for being contacted when it's time for the second jab. Ask for a written reply with confirmation of this.

Florelei · 01/03/2021 18:27

There are a lot of people who have had ‘spare’ doses so there must be some system to deal with this.

SundayTeatime · 01/03/2021 18:28

Even mass vac sites aren’t giving out a second appointment date. My elderly parents were done at a mass site and have been told to wait to be contacted to hear about second jab.

countbackfromten · 01/03/2021 18:29

I haven’t had my second dose and I’m a anaesthetist and intensive doctor who was vaccinated end of December! No idea when it will be. I’m not surprised they won’t book yours in @prettywoo

AnImposter · 01/03/2021 18:30

You will get invited for the second the same as everyone else. Having the first adds you to the list using a system called pharmoutcomes. This list will be what the invites are sent from.

When I booked my first dose online I had to book my second at the same time,

BungleandGeorge · 01/03/2021 18:39

The receptionist is incorrect. As above it’s picked up by the centre that did your first vaccine, they know they did the first one and it will flag when you need the second. The only slightly tricky scenario is the people who were done as hospital inpatients and have now been discharged

ExpulsoCorona · 01/03/2021 18:40

The receptionists were incorrect. You'll get invited for your second vaccine at the correct time regardless of which group you were in. Don't worry about it. People who got end of the day spare vaccines will also get invited at their correct time.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/03/2021 18:41

My second isn't booked. I assume I will just get invite like for the first. I wouldn't think about calling up GP yet

CallmeAngelina · 01/03/2021 18:41

Well, we've just had Jonathan van Tam on the news saying how absolutely vital it is that people get their 2nd jab, so I really can't see how they can let you drift.
It's not even about you specifically - but a kind of herd immunity for all. The success of the whole programme will depend on everyone having two jabs, so it would be stupid to effectively allow your first jab to go to waste by not following it up with the second.

BungleandGeorge · 01/03/2021 18:42

GP surgeries are allocated vaccines, they can’t order themselves and have little notice that they’re getting a delivery. Hence why they can’t make both appointments at the same time. Large centres have constant supplies so can make both appointments initially

Yes they are. I booked both mine this morning.

I'm embarrassed for you that you took the slot.

You took that dose from someone else who needed it more.

You should have waited your turn.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:46

@oohmamama I rang up to tell the surgery I was no longer a carer.
They told me to book the vaccine!
So I did!

It must be different depending on the area. DH booked his after getting a text from his GP and was told he'll be comtacted nearer the time to book.

I'm also worried after reading the poster saying don't book a holiday 12 weeks after your first dose. We've got a holiday booked just over 12 weeks after DH's first! It didn't register at the time as he was so pleased to be offered the vaccine so fingers crossed he gets his second appointment on time so he can get over any side effects.

oohmamama · 01/03/2021 18:47

Yes it was definitely the surgery's fault Hmm

Sunnysideup999 · 01/03/2021 18:48

They cannot withhold the second dose from you on the basis that you are no longer a carer.
Lots of people change roles/circumstances all the time.
I’d phone the practise manager and just explain that you’re confused by what the receptionist said and can they confirm that you will get the second dose when you should have it. And that you had the first dose on this basis.
It sounds like the receptionist was talking out of turn.

Bullshit. People should go when invited. Simple as that. No need to make people feel guilty because they had it. The more people is vaccinated, the better.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 01/03/2021 18:48

@Parkermumma07

Me too - let you book anyday between eleven and twelve weeks ahead.

according to this vaccine queue calculator you should get it in May anyway, but as others have said, there's probably a recall based on the date of your first if there is no second one booked.

SundayTeatime · 01/03/2021 18:49

@ThatLibraryMiss
No. They aren’t all giving out the second jab date. That screenshot is if you booked it yourself via the NHS website. My parents were contacted by letter to go to a mass site for their first. While there, they were told to wait to hear about the second jab. They could not book it themselves.

prettywoo · 01/03/2021 18:49

@oohmamama it wasn't anybody's fault.
I was offered the vaccine.
So I took it
Surely the more people who get it the better.
I'm a key worker and I deal with hundreds of people a day.
Surely me getting the vaccine is a good thing.

Not if they're wrongly invited, as OP was.

Vaccines are apportioned by level of need.

Hers is lower than many others waiting.
