Was it my fault and do I replace them?

I do all the washing.

I repeatedly tell people to empty their pockets. DD17 didn’t take her apple headphones out and obviously they went through the wash.

Waiting to see if they still work once they dry out.

Should I have double checked? And should I replace them?

At 17 it's her own fault. Doubt they will work though!

If he isn’t happy then the obvious answer is he does his own washing!

At 17 not a chance it’s your fault. She doesn’t like it, she does her own washing.

You tell her to empty her pockets and you oblige her by doing her washing. Her own fault if she can't even check her pockets.

Not your fault, DD will have to buy new ones. They’re not that expensive.

Dd 14 has just got some with her own money. I told her I take no responsibility for them. We have a dpuppy. I have stated if they get eaten I won't replace. At 17 she can do her own laundry from now on.

Nope, not your fault. DD's boyfriend did this with his passport! He could have squawked all he wanted, his parents couldn't afford to replace it and he recognised it was his fault.

Actually in the washing basket. In trouser pocket, I just grabbed them and put them in the washer.

She’s having a rubbish time right now and I feel bad I ruined them.

If I pick stuff up off the floor it's my responsibility to check pockets. If something is in the washing basket it's ready to go in the machine without so much as a cursory glance.

Yes she does. She took it relatively well but I could see she was upset.

But I have washed my airpods, wired apple headphones and dd has washed her airpods and they all work fine. So I think you’re going to be okay.

She put her earphones in the washing basket so they got washed 🤷‍♀️ not your problem.

But I have washed my airpods, wired apple headphones and dd has washed her airpods and they all work fine. So I think you’re going to be okay.

Oh that’s good to know. Hopefully they might work then.

It's her fault but it seems she knows it. I have always been thoughtless/accident prone so I get it, feel for her!

You could always buy them for her (if they're broken) and tell her she can pay you back in installments if you want to help her out?

It is not your fault and you should not be expected to replace them.

However if my dd was having a rough time and it was affordable to me I would replace them. So long as she is normally takes care of things and didn't expect me to replace them.

I hope they dry out OP but it's not your fault. I'm sure she'll have learned her lesson either way.

They’re regular wired apple headphones not AirPods. I think they’re about £30 or so?

Try putting them in a bag of rice, it's worked for me with a mobile that got wet.

It's not your fault and I wouldn't replace them. If they can't be revived and she has to go without or pay for replacement I doubt she will forget to check her pockets again. If you replace them there is no consequence for her and so she may continue to be careless about pocket checking. It's rubbish for her at the moment but the lesson will be cheaper for her in the long run.

Exactly this. If your DD has a good attitude in general (respectful, appreciative etc) and I could afford it, then I would probably take pity on her and replace them for her.

It definitely isn't your fault though, and any hint that you should be replacing them would achieve the opposite result from me.

I can definitely afford it. I just looked and they’re only £19.
Her attitude is up and down but she’s dealing with a lot right now.
I’ll wait and see if they work and how she is.
