AIBU or should hot cross buns only be the original flavour?

I can’t be doing with rhubarb & custard, salted caramel, honeycomb etc etc. Just stick to the original!

Is someone forcing you to eat the other flavours? Maybe you should call 111?

BruceAndNosh · 27/02/2021 17:22

You're absolutely right.
Send all the aberrations my way and I'll deal with them

kottbullar · 27/02/2021 17:22

YABU
M&S Apple and Sultana are my favourite ever.

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 27/02/2021 17:23

I agree. Hot cross buns come only in the original spiced flavour.

Salted caramel, apple & cranberry etc are not hot cross buns, they are just buns

Oneborneverydecade · 27/02/2021 17:23

Your examples sound unappealing but I do like the chocolate orange Waitrose ones. All the Waitrose flavours are nice

AgeLikeWine · 27/02/2021 17:24

I like M&S cheese & chilli ones.

VinylDetective · 27/02/2021 17:25

@kottbullar

YABU M&S Apple and Sultana are my favourite ever.
Mine too. Everyone else can have the rest.
Shamoo · 27/02/2021 17:25

The chocolate ones from M&S, toasted and dripping in butter, are beyond amazing!

peak2021 · 27/02/2021 17:26

Wholemeal hot cross buns should be available in my opinion.

Sparklybanana · 27/02/2021 17:29

Was going to say yanbu but rhubarb and custard! Where are those from?! I don't really like the salted caramel or chocolate ones but I do like the apple ones.

I do need to toast them though as my dd is getting annoyed that they are called 'hot' Cross buns but are cold Grin. I'll eat them any which way.

emmathedilemma · 27/02/2021 17:29

YANBU if you don't like dried fruit then don't eat hot cross buns!

saveforthat · 27/02/2021 17:29

I'm with you op. DP who didn't have her glasses on bought salted caramel and choc chip by mistake. They are disgusting. Some of it is psychological I think, one expects a HCB to taste like a HCB. I'm prepared to consider the apple ones may be palatable.

Angel2702 · 27/02/2021 17:30

As long as there are some original as well I can’t wait to try some of the others. The rhubarb ones were lovely last year as are the apple and cinnamon. I’ve frozen some cheese and marmite ones as well.

Ginisatonic · 27/02/2021 17:32

Honeycomb you say? Yes please.

Aldi are the rhubarb ones. They have 10 different ones I think. Two pages of them in the online magazine.
Ileflottante · 27/02/2021 17:32

Why don’t you just stick to the originals and let us enjoy the exciting new variations? Hmm

SingingWaffleDoggy · 27/02/2021 17:32

I love the Tesco caramel and choc chip ones, and I love the sound of the chocolate orange ones too!

Chimeraforce · 27/02/2021 17:33

Oh no, I love the co-op brioche choc chip ones. They are amazing.

AnExcellentWalker · 27/02/2021 17:35

I agree. The only variations should be regarding the exact mix of spices, & whether to include candied peel in addition to dried fruit (as obviously some people don't like candied peel).

I may be prepared to consider the apple ones. Apple is, after all, a fruit.

M&S sell chocolate hot cross buns.

CheeseJalapenoBread · 27/02/2021 17:35

Kind of agree but the Marks & Spencer chocolate ones and the apple ones are lovely.

Brownteddybear · 27/02/2021 17:40

YANBU OP Wink

FurrySlipperBoots · 27/02/2021 17:49

Hot Cross Buns of any variety are an abomination and ought to be scratched for m existence!

Redglitter · 27/02/2021 17:50

The salted caramel ones are amazing, so yes YABU

So those are brioches, not HCBs?
BoreOfWhabylon · 27/02/2021 17:52

YANBU

Furthermore, they should only be consumed on Good Friday!
