AIBU to think that lesbians deserve a dating app that caters exclusively to lesbians?

Glinner · 27/02/2021 16:32

Recently I opened an account with the app Her to bring attention to the many straight men invading lesbian dating apps by claiming a 'lesbian', 'queer' or 'trans' identity.

Given that lesbians are adult human females exclusively attracted to other adult human females, am I being unreasonable to believe that lesbians deserve spaces of their own, both online and in the real world?

I am not in the target demographic so have no dog in the fight.

That said, I think it's a shame that lesbians seem to be the only group that cannot have an interest-specific (for want of a better term) online dating site. I've seen adverts for OLD sites for gay men, Jews, Muslims, Big Beautiful Women, tall people, etc. They don't seem to get any grief about who they are aimed at / for.

AtSwimTwoBerts · 01/03/2021 14:43

Did I seriously get deleted for stating that people with penises are men? Guess we know where MN is on this topic Hmm

Due to the identity of the OP, this thread is probably being heavily monitored outside MN.

I had to check who the OP was then

I’d quite forgotten

Glinner has fucked off. Caused trouble and then just watched the cat among the pigeons without engaging with sensible questions on here. Great.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 01/03/2021 16:40

Atswim, yes, we must contort ourselves not to speak our truths or otherwise commit linguistic infringements for fear of banning.

Crazy world, eh?

Erkrie · 01/03/2021 16:41

I expect he left because of the hostility some people directed towards him.

NotTerfNorCis · 01/03/2021 16:44

I'm with you, Glinner. People are attracted to sexes, not genders. A gay man is not going to be attracted to a female person no matter how she identifies; and a lesbian wouldn't be attracted to a male person, no matter how he identifies.

When lesbians asked for help....

QueenoftheAir · 02/03/2021 08:26

I'm not a lesbian & don't use dating apps. But - it is outrageous that lesbians are now being pressured to give up women-only spaces. In my more feminist-activist days, I used to hang out with a group of women, about half of whom were lesbians, so we'd end up in lesbian bars. The energy & ease of a woman-only space is liberating.

And expecting lesbians to be interested in dating people with penises is - well, it's a bit rapey, really isn't it?

QueenoftheAir · 02/03/2021 08:28

I was deleted for using the term "peak t*"

Dalyesque · 02/03/2021 08:55

Is it too much to ask that men and transwomen stand back and respect lesbians need for our own spaces?
Yes it is to much too ask. They don’t take any notice. I am worried that dating sites are actually potentially too dangerous to use. But having colonised all our groups and meeting places there is literally nowhere to just hang out in a female supportive place like those older ones of us remember.. anyone remember the women’s monthly events?

WanderinWomb · 02/03/2021 09:46

Of course YANBU
There has been national press on this now and it has got people talking.

The point is that all the lesbians joining HER and using Gigi's or Glindia's photos are no less heterosexual males than the loads of the other lesbian botherers on there. That is the point.

WanderinWomb · 02/03/2021 09:52

Me: AIBU to think threads about lesbians should be written by lesbians and not men, and that lesbians should be the ones answering them and leading the conversation?*

Linner, you are free to start threads, you can even say you only want lesbians to answer.

WanderinWomb · 02/03/2021 10:16

@Glinner

WanderinWomb · 02/03/2021 10:29

@Expectant88

So no one can name any lesbian groups driven underground or services no longer providing for women in all this moral panic.

I wonder why the giggle app, which uses phrenology and “biometric” measures to decide who is female enough to join isn’t raising the obvious concern - what’s next? Selfies with your genitals in frame so we can REALLY tell who’s a woman? But keep defending giggle of course.

No, we aren't going to share our secret WhatsApp groups, Discords and private Facebook groups with a stranger accusing us of moral panic. If you haven't been invited to any there is clearly a good reason why.

As for services, you haven't been paying attention to the sixwords campaign, DV and women's sectors. No surprise there.

PS Phrenology doesn't mean what you think it means and the genitals comment is ridiculous.

Goodness, imagine the glee from the activists if you shared that. One thing would be certain, it would be a huge mistake.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/03/2021 12:25

First rule of secret underground clubs is dont talk about secret underground clubs

(I say that, we had a secret work whats app...and while someone was being told off for their other whatsapp comments they grassed it up. Unfortunately someone had named the secret whatsapp group ‘secret squirrel group’ so that didnt look suspicious at all!)
