AIBU to think that Prince Harry is coming across as the most tone deaf and hypocritical member of the RF right now?

Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!

AIBU?

WAIT WHAT? PRINCE ANDREW IS A PEADOPHILE
Yet funnily enough, moving to America with your American wife is far more of a transgression against the Royals, and dear old Queenie has made that perfectly clear. Being accused of being a pervert and of sexual assault just means being hidden away until she or Phillip pops their clogs, where he will be out with the family and still treated as such. No loss of titles, no media storm about breaking the queen's heart, absolutely nothing but being put on early retirement.

Harry though, he moved away! I mean he could and probably would have resumed royal duties after the pandemic was over, especially since he's one of the very few who actually showed some real care and passion in charitable services. Unlike William and Kate who turn up very much I 'aren't we doing something nice for the peasants' mode. Harry has had a very good taste of 'know your place' much like his great-great uncle did. I dont blame either of them for choosing their wife over their titles. You'd think times would have moved on with this sort of attitude in 70 odd years...

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:51

Personally, I do think he made a mistake in breaking away from his family, both personally and in a work sense. He has been raised with the values of that family - as odd as they are - and I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles to find much purpose as it's not like he can just go and get a normal job now.

I get the impression it wasn't so much that he didn't want to be part of the institution of the royal family as much as that he (and Meghan) didn't like the press criticism they were getting - which is a problem that they haven't solved by leaving. And if anything it has actually ramped up now as the press can print whatever they like about them.

I presume you’ve never met him?

All this projection about a person you don’t know comes across a little strangely. No one has a clue what he actually thinks or feels.

BlackBrowedAlbatross · 26/02/2021 10:51

@MuddleMoo

Just change the channel or station if you don't want to hear from him. It's what I do with Nick Knowles.
Post of the day 👏👏
Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 10:52

@LucilleBluth

Oh come on, how can his defenders not see the not wanting attention because he hates the press, yet he keeps popping up every other day spewing absolute nonsense via zoom, podcasts, Oprah interviews and now James Cordon.

Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking ability has to be thinking what a hypocrite. That’s what pisses people off.

By 'the press' I took that to mean The Sun/Daily Mail and all the other rags that spout bile about them at every opportunity. I don't see Zoom/podcasts/Oprah and JC interviews 'the press'
OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:52

I'll give you bits are entertaining, like I just laughed at his child's first word being crocodile.
My husband tended to that sort of thing. Grin

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 10:53

@OldRailer

Thanks, MuddleMoo I too gave that wise advice earlier.

I was answering the point that you only find this couple if you deliberately click on links for their latest escapades.

Ah yes sorry you did! I'm only aware of this James Corden thing because of this thread, which I CHOSE to click on.
IrishMamaMia · 26/02/2021 10:53

I dislike Harry due to his hypocrisy, the private jet is a good example but there's also an interview where he preaches about racism, despite the fact that he has used some pretty offensive racist language in the past. He's a very privileged, wealthy man with a major chip on his shoulder and without the self awareness to tone down his personal narrative of suffering.
I do wish them well in their American celebrity ventures. I'm happy not to be paying for them anymore and grateful that they have so publicly exposed the fact that we don't really need a royal family anymore.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:53

derxa that was in answer to your post!

PrelovedWithValue · 26/02/2021 10:54

So it's not okay to want publicity on your own terms, and instead you have to be okay with the paparazzi and people taking photos from miles away with telescopic lenses.

Got it.

Does the same go for other people that are in the public eye? So if an actor goes on Graham Norton, do they lose any right to a private life? Is a comedian on mock the week suddenly fair game because they popped up on telly, then on a podcast, and then on a radio show?

What's the accepted limits to being allowed privacy?

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 10:54

I don't believe for a minute that Archie's first word was crocodile, i think PH was joking and probably didn't want to share what it was.

GreenSlide · 26/02/2021 10:54

@PicsInRed

Prince Harry married a Black woman.

People racists who like to think they're not got angry.

The end.

Pretty much, I have a theory that he was only allowed to marry Meghan if they left the RF.
TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:55

the private jet is a good example

I find it interesting that Harry (like all the royals) has been on many private jets in his life. Yet didn’t get much (any) heat for it until his mixed race wife availed of one too.

Hmm.

LOL of course I've never met him. We can all only go on what they've said and what's been written.

Just seems like he was happy to be part of the royal family before the press started criticising him and his wife.

And I just think it's a shame to have cut ties with his family in the way he has, must be sad for him.

cyclingmad · 26/02/2021 10:56

Since they've moved away, there has been a sharp drop in nasty articles in the British media has put out. Thank god though, because that wasn't journalism just people behaving like bullies.

Same for social media, why they choose to do is for them to decide. I don't blame them or hate them or will comment os post nasty things about two people that I barely know. They are doing whats right for them so who is to judge.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 26/02/2021 10:56

@BobbitWormNightmares

He's stepping back from being a royal - he didn't say he was stepping back from the media - his wife is/was an actress. They just want their independence - which for them means making millions through entertainment/documentaries etc etc but on their own terms.

I think out of all the royals, they must be the most relatable, for not wanting to live like that. I couldn't care less about the royals but I sort of like harry and Meghan

👍🏼
TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:56

This

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:56

Sparkling you mean we'd be fools to believe them? I think you may be right!

IrishMamaMia · 26/02/2021 10:57

@GreenSlide I doubt that this was the case but can't imagine William having been allowed to marry a woman of colour (sadly). The royal family is increasingly at odds with the modern world.

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:57

Just seems like he was happy to be part of the royal family before the press started criticising him and his wife.

You haven’t got the faintest clue 🤷‍♀️

Hmm.

Don't you think that's more because he never campaigned for the environment before though? It's not like people just hate private jets.

They posted quite a long instagram post about how we all need to do our bit for the environment as we have damaged the world so much but then used a private jet in the next breath. I think that's more why they got criticism for that.

LucilleBluth · 26/02/2021 10:58

It’s not even her it’s him. From the nazi uniform to the being photographed stark bollock naked in Las Vegas, he was bound to end up marrying some random actresses. It was on the cards.

He is an absolute knob head and watching him is like watching a car crash.

And to the people who say don’t watch if you don’t like it...we are all fascinated by cringe hence shows like the office and Harry is so unbelievably cringe.

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 10:58

@OldRailer

Sparkling you mean we'd be fools to believe them? I think you may be right!
No, I just think maybe he wanted to keep Archie's first word to himself. I thought it was tongue in cheek as he said '3 syllables' and laughed.
IrishMamaMia · 26/02/2021 10:59

I agree also about the drop in nasty articles, that was really awful and unacceptable.

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 11:01

Don't you think that's more because he never campaigned for the environment before though?

Nope, because Prince Charles has been lecturing in the environment and using private jets for years and no one batted an eyelid.
