AIBU to think that Prince Harry is coming across as the most tone deaf and hypocritical member of the RF right now?

Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!

AIBU?

@OldRailer

There are very wealthy philanthropists who you never or rarely hear about in the popular media.
Seemingly the RF’s idea of philanthropy is visiting charities and hoping other people donate.
TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:37

Meghan is a social climber as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm

Did she ‘steal your prince?’

PrelovedWithValue · 26/02/2021 10:38

It astonishes me that so many people think people in the public eye are not entitled to a private life.

It's entirely reasonable that people that are famous don't want every part of their life to be public. Harry has never had a choice but to live much of his life in the public eye. I think it's entirely appropriate to say 'enough'. I think they should absolutely have the choice of what they do publicly and what they do privately.

LunaLoveg00d · 26/02/2021 10:39

He's not coming across well at all. He's clearly, how shall we put this... not the sharpest knife in the drawer and was well reined in by palace officials. He is completely un-self aware and has no idea how he is coming across.

Swanning around an open top bus in the California sunshine, taking afternoon tea with an A list celeb, moaning about how hard things are when we're in a grey lockdown February.

Boo hoo. Poor Mr Sussex. Bye bye Harry, don't come back, you're not the loss you think you are and quite frankly we're better off as a country without you. And no, you shouldn't be a Duke, or HRH. Plain old Harry Sussex and his wife, Meghan Sussex will do.

Actually though, they had more protection and privacy when living as royals as the press (UK anyway) could only publish approved photos of them.

Obviously there would always be speculation about what they were doing behind closed doors but as a whole most of it was just that - speculation.

Now it's a free-for-all and paps can follow them everywhere if they choose. If anything they are more exposed now.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:41

UsedUp : yes it's an odd one! No wonder Harry is confused poor man.

StephanieSavetowin · 26/02/2021 10:41

WAIT WHAT?
PRINCE ANDREW IS A PEADOPHILE

I thought he came across just fine.
Bibidy · 26/02/2021 10:42

@TheKeatingFive

I don't defend the press's harsh treatment of either of them or criticism of ridiculous things ... but unfortunately it does seem to come with the territory for a few years.

And I applaud anyone who stands up and says it’s not on.

The way all royal brides have been treated by the British red tops has been appalling.

The press is not one homogenous entity. I’m sure there are many publications H&M feel they can have a respectful relationship with. Just not the ones making out she was a murderer for eating avocados.

Totally agree some of the articles on Meghan and the other wives have been awful and completely unfair.

I'm not surprised people struggle to live under that scrutiny, but equally feel they she will still be under that same scrutiny now except with less protection as to what can be published about her.

PrelovedWithValue · 26/02/2021 10:42

So @Bibidy does that mean he should have stayed within the institution that he didn't want to be part of? Or that he should be okay with no privacy?

I'm not sure what point you are making.

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:43

Given the decline in the really stupidly nasty stories about them, I’d say it’s working out.

TenaciousOnePointOne · 26/02/2021 10:43

@ChristOnAPeloton

“ Prince Harry married a Black woman.

People racists who like to think they're not got angry.

The end.”

I find it so incredibly boring and lazy every time someone tries to shut down a thread about Whinge and Cringe by making it about Meghan’s ethnicity...

YANBU OP. Hazza has become a right old pillock in his old age. (Or he always was one and the RF have stopped covering up for him.)

He’s got the independence and privacy he wanted. Why not turn off the webcam and enjoy it?

And I’m not even a fan of Queenie- but H&M’s insistence on having the last word every time BP releases a statement is petty in the extreme.

I find it particularly boring and lazy when people can't admit that race has definitely played into how Megan and Harry have been treated:

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 10:44

@OldRailer

My DH watches the main news programme and they did have a Meghan letters story on recently. It's not news in our opinion. 🤷 But it's a bit disingenuous to say you can avoid it all by keeping off you tube and even the internet.
So again, back to my Nick Knowles analogy, just press a button, any button and watch something else for 2 or 3 minutes. No one is holding your eyeballs open forcing you to watch it.
TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 10:44

she will still be under that same scrutiny now except with less protection as to what can be published about her.

Like I say, getting out of the glare of the U.K. gutter press looks like it’s been a good move.

CathyorClaire · 26/02/2021 10:44

Seemingly the RF’s idea of philanthropy is visiting charities and hoping other people donate

And apparently over 70% of the time even the visit goes by the board.

Yes, like some sort of weird torture? Grin You dislike these people but you WILL watch!

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:47

Thanks, MuddleMoo I too gave that wise advice earlier.

I was answering the point that you only find this couple if you deliberately click on links for their latest escapades.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/02/2021 10:47

I can't stand Harry or Meghan but James Corden is even worse. I can't bear him and won't watch anything he's in! He's up there with Rob Brydon as far as I'm concerned!

Aspiringmatriarch · 26/02/2021 10:47

I haven't seen it yet but heard a couple of clips and I thought it seemed fine.
But you're right, he should probably just STFU and go and live under a rock. Hmm

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 10:47

I did actually walk out of the room that evening!

Bibidy · 26/02/2021 10:48

@PrelovedWithValue

So *@Bibidy* does that mean he should have stayed within the institution that he didn't want to be part of? Or that he should be okay with no privacy?

I'm not sure what point you are making.

I'm not sure either to be honest! LOL. I just think it's an interesting topic.

Personally, I do think he made a mistake in breaking away from his family, both personally and in a work sense. He has been raised with the values of that family - as odd as they are - and I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles to find much purpose as it's not like he can just go and get a normal job now.

I get the impression it wasn't so much that he didn't want to be part of the institution of the royal family as much as that he (and Meghan) didn't like the press criticism they were getting - which is a problem that they haven't solved by leaving. And if anything it has actually ramped up now as the press can print whatever they like about them.

derxa · 26/02/2021 10:48

Harry and his wife are highly entertaining. I find them fascinating.

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 10:49

Perfect storm PH and JK. Two marmite characters. I loved the Carpool Karaokes, especially Adele's, I think JK is entertaining and don't take anything too seriously. But he must have done something terrible somewhere along the line. Moving to LA maybe? Shock Grin

LucilleBluth · 26/02/2021 10:49

Oh come on, how can his defenders not see the not wanting attention because he hates the press, yet he keeps popping up every other day spewing absolute nonsense via zoom, podcasts, Oprah interviews and now James Cordon.

Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking ability has to be thinking what a hypocrite. That’s what pisses people off.
