Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

we have seperate bedrooms, both have kingsized to ourselves. When girls lived at home we shared a kingsized bed with a kingsized duvet each

Twinkie01 · 24/02/2021 18:23

Super king. Can't stand being touched when I'm asleep. It's not you. If you've space you get a bigger bed, you're two grown arsed people!

ChequerBoard · 24/02/2021 18:23

Superking every time. Our bedroom is being redone so we are in the spare room in a double at the moment. I sleep much better in our lovely big bed!

TheyIsMyFamily · 24/02/2021 18:24

Super King for us. Separate duvets as well. We both like our own space and heat/cool control..

MummytoCSJH · 24/02/2021 18:24

King! I have a king all to myself and still don't think I would cope with another person in honestly Grin

Mumof2bears · 24/02/2021 18:24

Super king all the way - when we moved, we agreed we needed to find a house with at least one bedroom which could hold a super king! I wouldn't go back to a double and just have to accept king size beds on holiday/at PIL.

TeaMeBasil · 24/02/2021 18:24

Superking here - we love it.

Would struggle to go back down to a king now....but definitely would not consider a double!

LadyBugg · 24/02/2021 18:25

We've got a double and I'm grouchy every morning because I don't sleep at all well, im up and down several times a night.

When oh goes away for work and I can spread out, I sleep a solid 8 hours and wake up bursting for a pee because I've been so comfortable I've not woken to go.
I'd really love a super king, its on the list of the million other things we need to do in this house Sad

If you can ditch the double definitely do it!

NotMrsTumble · 24/02/2021 18:27

Super king. If we ever change the bed in looking for an emperor size.
My teens have doubles, which is only 1.5 times the width of a single. Much better sleep for everyone.

RampantIvy · 24/02/2021 18:27

We are both tall. A double bed isn't long enough. We also like space when we are sleeping so it has to be king sized or superking.

SusannahD · 24/02/2021 18:28

King size, need the space would go super king if we had the room

Absy · 24/02/2021 18:29

We have king but in an ideal world I would want an emperor. We’ve had them in hotels (I think they were emperors. They felt massive) and my ideal is a bed where if we want to, we can both starfish and not touch. DH is very tall so a double is defo out for him as his feet poke out the end. Even a king is rubbish when the DCs come in. I have ended up sleeping on the sofa or in a toddler bed so many times because it was too squashed. I would not recommend

OppsUpsSide · 24/02/2021 18:29

Read the title and thought this was about burgers Blush

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 24/02/2021 18:29

Christ. I’m single and sleep in a King. If I were coupled up, Super King all the way.

Runmybathforme · 24/02/2021 18:30

Doubles are for children.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/02/2021 18:30

We have a double. A Kingsize would be top of my list if we had room.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/02/2021 18:31

@Runmybathforme

Doubles are for children.
Only on American TV usually.
ShutUpAlex · 24/02/2021 18:32

Super king but we still sleep all cuddled up together every night so a double isn’t a problem when we sleep away. But super kings are nicer for when you’ve got kids coming in and out because my children like to sleep in the swaztika position.

QueenPaw · 24/02/2021 18:33

I have a super king to myself
Your side, my side. No crossing over if I'm sleeping Grin

eightxmaspaws · 24/02/2021 18:33

@SortYourLifeHelp

Superking.

Why would ANYONE say double?!

I had a double with XH. Back when we were happy. Genuinely never had any problems sleeping next to each other. Divorce was on the cards the minute we got the super king. He is skinny though. A bigger, more heated bloke would definitely be annoying.
JustDanceAddict · 24/02/2021 18:35

King all the way! Our bedroom isn’t very big but we have a king as dh is 6ft and I’m 5ft4.

BlibBlabBlob · 24/02/2021 18:35

I think the more space you have, the more space you become used to needing. Many years ago I shared a double with my DH but then we upgraded to king size (which had room for three of us; DD was a cosleeping baby back then). Eventually, through DD-related circumstances and in our quest to all get a decent sleep, we ended up with two doubles pushed together to form a 9ft wide bed. It looks shit but it's heavenly; each side is customised to our own preferences (mattress feel, bedding). Although I still don't get the benefit of basically having a double to myself, as DD is an absolute bugger for sneaking in rather than staying in her own room!

Sleep is precious. Do what you need in order to get it. If that's a bigger bed then DO IT! Including separate duvets, if that helps.

SoddingWeddings · 24/02/2021 18:35

A king, and I'd happily sacrifice walking room around the bed for a super king 😂

I need space and he's a PITA much like yours.

tootsytoo · 24/02/2021 18:35

Super king and wouldn't go back. It's life changing lol, double is far too small IMO

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 18:36

@MeadowHay

I don't think this thread is at all representative of the general population given the income/class demographics most common on MN.

We have a double, we were cash strapped when we bought it from the BHF. We are unlikely to buy another til it breaks but we would perhaps consider a king at that point depending on where we live as we will have more money then. Space isn't really an issue for us though tbh, I am a restless sleeper but DH isn't and he's the much bigger one and leaves me with loads of room so it's alright.

I got my King for £120 quid including a mattress (which i now changed). You don't have to be rich to have a King size
