Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

King size but next time we get a new bed will def upgrade to a super king, couldn't go back to a double!

SeenYourArse · 24/02/2021 18:37

We have a Superking! Before this we had a king sized and it was ok but SO much better now we’ve upgraded

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 18:39

@Spodge

Separate bedrooms
I am with you on that. I have the King size, he has double in his🙈
londongirl12 · 24/02/2021 18:39

Super king!! I like my space

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 18:40

One advice.
No matter what size you get, if you get shit mattress it will be shit. If the whole thing bounces every rime one of you turns, it will be horrible and you will be grumpy with each other (personal experience, what did I expect for that price)

billybullshitterz1n · 24/02/2021 18:42

We've just had to sleep in my son's double while our bedroom was decorated. Have realised that double are great for one person. Couldn't wait to get back to our Kingsize

diagold4u · 24/02/2021 18:42

Defo king size. We used to have double, we were so squashed when the baby would come in the bed. So we then got king size, ahhh the best sleep even with a child in between. I would've got super king but then that would mean the bedside table I wanted wouldn't fit on both side of the bed.
The only thing that annoys me is,when the pillows are on the bed, I don't like the gaps created between the pillows, but that's just me, I have this weird thing about gaps

VaVaGloom · 24/02/2021 18:44

Double was fine when we were young and in the first flush of romance.

A few years on with children & king size essential

queenatom · 24/02/2021 18:44

Genuinely astonished how many people here are saying they have kings or above. Neither of us are slight and we have a double and it's absolutely fine, no issues sleeping. Admittedly we wouldn't have room for anything bigger even if we wanted it - I'm as much surprised that so many people have the space!

We do have a king duvet though, extra coverage for both of us.

waterlilliess · 24/02/2021 18:45

Superking. Could you fit it on a divan base so no bed frame to save space?

geekaMaxima · 24/02/2021 18:46

European double here, which is 140 x 200. It's great, never any problems. It's slightly wider and a good bit longer than a UK double.

We're both tall and slim, and like to cuddle up or at least sleep close together. DH is a furnace and I'm often cold, so that works out nicely. Neither of us sleep like starfish, which I can see would make a double seem small, but there's plenty of room in reality.

We've slept in king beds in hotels and other people's houses and tbh I found it a bit chilly, like sleeping on my own, because DH was so far away Blush

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/02/2021 18:46

We have a king because we couldnt fit a super king in our old bedroom but we now have a massive room so when we need to replace our bed it will be with a super king.

TheLetterZ · 24/02/2021 18:46

Married 20 years and perfectly happy with a double bed. I would say both middle sized people and no problems at all. Never felt I am short of space and can turn over etc.

geekaMaxima · 24/02/2021 18:47

Oh - and we have an excellent mattress. All size beds feel too small with a crap mattress that makes out notice every twitch froM the other side.

Lorw · 24/02/2021 18:47

Super king! Life changing...

ThePinkWig · 24/02/2021 18:47

We have a super king too. It’s beautiful. We joke we’re in different postcodes when we’re both on our sides. I also love it for being able to have the kids in the bed for cuddles.

Catmaiden · 24/02/2021 18:48

Separate rooms, with a Double/King/Superking, whatever is the largest that will fit in each room.
Bliss.

violetbunny · 24/02/2021 18:48

We used to have a queen size and I always felt like I was either hanging off the edge of the bed so I didn't get breathed on, or that I was sinking and rolling into him. Now have a super king and it's glorious, no more sleep issues.

Igiveyouanonion · 24/02/2021 18:48

We share a double happily. It was all the room would take so luckily I never feel squashed and sleep well. Plus I like holding hands when falling asleep. We do have a king size duvet though. We use a double duvet when staying at my parents and we never sleep well so for us it’s more the duvet than the mattress space. You could try a bigger duvet if a king bed isn’t an option space wise.

Indoctro · 24/02/2021 18:49

Super king and couldn't have anything smaller , I need space

yoshiblue · 24/02/2021 18:49

King size all the way

lazylinguist · 24/02/2021 18:49

I'm 50, been married for nearly 20 years and have never had a bed bigger than a double. Never felt the need tbh - there's enough room!

simbobs · 24/02/2021 18:50

Super King with separate mattresses in keeping with our size. If staying away from home I can manage with a king size, but my heart sinks if I see a double bed. It's just too small for 2 adults.

WhySoSensitive · 24/02/2021 18:50

We have a double. Both very tall but also cuddle a lot in the night.
We can’t get the frame for a king up our awkward old stairs 😂

Serg · 24/02/2021 18:50

King size with a super king size duvet so there are no duvet wars.
