Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

Super king.

Mistressinthetulips · 04/04/2021 23:20

@StoneofDestiny

King, but until 5 years ago we were fine in a double. (New house, new bed). However - ironing king sized bedding is a PITA.
There's a solution to that Grin
MrsDontDoMuch · 04/04/2021 23:21

Definitely super king

@speakout

Two doubles- in separate rooms.
This.

We have a double but want a king size when we next trade up. Increasingly I need more sleep and am kept awake by DH in the night.

LeSquigh · 04/04/2021 23:37

King size, but would be a super if there was space!

MrsBennetsnerves · 04/04/2021 23:45

King, but I'd go for a 6ft bed if the bedroom was bigger.

MooseBreath · 05/04/2021 06:08

DH is a big guy and for 8 years we struggled with a double especially when I was massively pregnant. 6 months ago we but the bullet and upgraded to a king - it's changed our sleep so much for the better!

Pickledpenguin · 05/04/2021 06:12

Im single and petite and still couldnt sleep in a double. Kind size all the way. If i met someone I would get superking or bigger if there was an option. Life is too short for a small bed.

Pickledpenguin · 05/04/2021 06:12

King not kind.

ThreeorFour · 05/04/2021 06:27

I love the king size we got when we moved into our new place. It's been the best thing for our relationship. I'm under 5'5" but he used to spread out in the double. It's lovely having enough proper space for two. Particularly helpful in summer heat. I also enjoy having it all to myself when he's on the sofa (his post drinking snoring).

For those with a super king hi legs is your bedroom? I find a king size is not big enough anymore.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 05/04/2021 07:28

How large

SimonJT · 05/04/2021 07:56

Not huge but definitely generous, either side of the bed we have a bedside table that looking at them are in gaps around 50cm wide. The gap between the bottom of the bed and the fitted wardrobes is just shy of a metre.

Double but we have a king size duvet

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 05/04/2021 08:37

Plenty large enough to take the bed, it’s about 20 feet x 18 feet. Anything smaller would look lost in there, tbh.

BigPaperBag · 05/04/2021 08:41

We HATE our double but our room is too small for anything bigger. We’re moving next year and one of the first things on the shopping list is the biggest bed we can find (is it Super King/Emperor) whichever is biggest. Can’t wait!!

HeronLanyon · 05/04/2021 09:13

I may privately rename my double a ‘Tsarina’. Or the ‘contessa’. At the moment it’s more of a semi-permanent ‘héronery’.

Livingonadream · 05/04/2021 09:14

Super king all the way!

autumnboys · 05/04/2021 09:17

We have a King. If we were ever to replace it, I would consider a SuperKing. I like the extra space.

Sillysop92 · 05/04/2021 09:20

Double bed but king size duvet. Has worked for us over the last 30 years.

JeffTheOracle · 05/04/2021 09:20

We have a super king squished into a very small bedroom - I have to crawl in or out of it via the end of the bed to get to my side but it's so worth it

SummerOfComedy · 05/04/2021 09:32

The bigger the better I say.
We have a KS and I would definitely have a SKS if we could fit it in the bedroom, but we can't.
I like the idea of separate single quilts.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2021 09:38

King size every time. If not super king. Ours is actually in between the two, special size bought in a sale.

We had to book last minute overnight accomm last September for after driving a niece to uni a 6 hour drive away. Double bed rooms only to be had, so I booked a twin.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 05/04/2021 09:38

Makes you wonder how anyone ever slept before the invention of king size beds.
