Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

Mines a double, had to sacrifice the size to get my gorgeous four poster. I wish it was bigger but the room wouldn't look right if it was. King size quilt though, no negotiation on that.

stormelf · 24/02/2021 17:46

We have a double. Seems to work fine even with a toddler in with us most nights. We had a king size on holiday once and i hated it, I just felt lonely

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/02/2021 17:47

Double.

We managed to share a 2ft6 single for a week - synchronised turning every time one of us wanted to roll over. So no problem with a double, even with added cat.

cravingthelook · 24/02/2021 17:47

When married I had a super king

I have my own house and I have a king

Wouldn't bother buying a double (tho DD has one)

SchrodingersImmigrant · 24/02/2021 17:47

Double is basically just 1.5 in UK. It shouldn't be called double🙈
Yeah, we got King (which is the actual double then)

RandomMess · 24/02/2021 17:47

Super king, then more recently separate beds and separate rooms 😂😂😂😂

We both sleep much better now!

Classicbrunette · 24/02/2021 17:48

King size.. we would have super king if we could.. just so much better.

I had a double bed with my ex and he was not easy to sleep with.. snoring, but mostly he couldn’t stand it if I even breathed or twitched early on the morning. I’m an early riser and he wasn’t !!! King definitely!

MrsDoctorDear · 24/02/2021 17:48

King size and I've just added my own single duvet, it's a revelation!!

No more tug of war, I should have done it years ago.

RandomMess · 24/02/2021 17:49

Actually the European king is between a king and a super king is you can fit one of them in. Every inch counts Wink

Tohaveandtohold · 24/02/2021 17:49

Super King here and separate duvets.
I would never share a double bed again

ElGuardiandenoche · 24/02/2021 17:50

King size here, would love something bigger but the room isn’t big enough. We also have our own duvets as well 😀

Thebig3 · 24/02/2021 17:50

Super king! Double beds are too small for 2 people!

MaudTheInvincible · 24/02/2021 17:50

King at least. Obvs.

00100001 · 24/02/2021 17:51

Super King here.

It's amazing 🤩

MeadowHay · 24/02/2021 17:51

I don't think this thread is at all representative of the general population given the income/class demographics most common on MN.

We have a double, we were cash strapped when we bought it from the BHF. We are unlikely to buy another til it breaks but we would perhaps consider a king at that point depending on where we live as we will have more money then. Space isn't really an issue for us though tbh, I am a restless sleeper but DH isn't and he's the much bigger one and leaves me with loads of room so it's alright.

Abraxan · 24/02/2021 17:51

We have a king. I'd get a super king if we had a bigger bedroom. I'm also a restless bed partner, so like my own space and means I'm less likely to disturb dh.

I find a double really small on the times we've had one on holiday as so used to a bigger bed now.

ImAncient · 24/02/2021 17:52

Super king. Used to have a king till we went away 15 years ago & slept in a super king. Changed it as soon as we came back. Who are these weird people who can sleep in a double. My dcs have kings never mind us!

user85963842 · 24/02/2021 17:52

Super king, will never go back, get as big as you have space for!

happymummy12345 · 24/02/2021 17:52

We have a double because we bigger would be a squeeze. It would fit but we wouldn't have as much space round when you get in and out.
Ideally I'd say the biggest bed you can fit in the room though.
When we've stayed in hotels that have had a bigger bed we've noticed the difference a lot, and had much better nights sleep as a result of the bigger bed.
When I was a student living in halls I had a single bed and my husband (boyfriend at the time) stayed. Both sleeping in a single bed wasn't so much fun, but we managed

likeamillpond · 24/02/2021 17:53

Most are saying kingsize and above. I aim to show him this.

MixedUpFiles · 24/02/2021 17:53

King

If we travel and can’t get a king, we look for separate beds. I love my DH with all of my heart and we have a great intimate life. I like to be cool and his body generates roughly 1 million degrees. He likes to not be hit by random limbs all night and I thrash around in my sleep.

Hahaha88 · 24/02/2021 17:53

I've a better idea, two beds in two rooms,

sunflowersandbuttercups · 24/02/2021 17:53

Super king!

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2021 17:55

King, he’s tall, I’m chubby
I aspire to have a house/bedroom big enough for a superking

greenlynx · 24/02/2021 17:55

Always the biggest you can get in. We have super king and we both are average size. DD has small double for herself and she’s pretty slim.
