Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

We had to share a double when visiting recently. I moved downstairs to sleep on the sofa as there simply wasn't enough space for 2 people. We are both slim, just don't enjoy being squashed.
Superking all the way. Or 2 doubles.

Separate bedrooms

WildfirePonie · 24/02/2021 18:08

King size bed - All to yourself.

MillyMinamino · 24/02/2021 18:08

I don't currently sleep in the same bed as DH because I'm cosleeping with the 1yo and I find a double too small for that even though she's tiny because she's a wrigglebum. So I'd say King size!

@ImAncient

Super king. Used to have a king till we went away 15 years ago & slept in a super king. Changed it as soon as we came back. Who are these weird people who can sleep in a double. My dcs have kings never mind us!
Lucky you that funds allow your children to have a room big enough for a king side bed, nevermind the beds themselves!

The "weird people" probably aren't as privileged as you are.

CherryRoulade · 24/02/2021 18:09

Super king or King at least

Titsinknicks · 24/02/2021 18:09

Super king obviously. This rules out so many otherwise nice holiday rentals which usually have shitty doubles. A king would be ok for a night or two.

SweepTheHalls · 24/02/2021 18:09

King size minimum!

ShowOfHands · 24/02/2021 18:11

We shared a single for the first 6yrs of our relationship.

We have a king now. A double is way too small.

ChippyChickenChips · 24/02/2021 18:11

Super king. We slept in a double for first 10 years of marriage. Didn't realise how badly it affected our sleep until we got a superking. Bloody luxury! Life changer, honestly. I agree that it's better with 2 single duvets though. I always book twin beds in a hotel. So disappointing to turn up and find a tiny double.

TupilaLilium · 24/02/2021 18:11

King and separate duvets

MissConductUS · 24/02/2021 18:12

We have a queen size bed, which is much bigger than a double but a bit smaller than a king. Is that size available in the UK?

nokidshere · 24/02/2021 18:13

We had a king size on holiday once and i hated it, I just felt lonely

How can you feel lonely sleeping in the same bed as someone else?

Tianatiers · 24/02/2021 18:13

Kingsize here but we were in a double pre children. Since we often have little visitors in the night now a king is essential. A double feels really small now but was the norm for us for many years and was fine.

ArosGartref · 24/02/2021 18:15

After 10 years of marriage it's super king or divorce.

Palavah · 24/02/2021 18:16

Had a Superking for years, single or otherwise.

PurBal · 24/02/2021 18:16

King. Hoping to upgrade to superking. May end up in separate beds at some point. We're both light sleepers and different temperatures.

doctorhamster · 24/02/2021 18:16

King size. I always thought a double was fine until we got a king size. Would never go back.

TheDogsMother · 24/02/2021 18:16

Double ! Hell no and I wouldn't even want this in a hotel. We're both small and have a King Size

EL8888 · 24/02/2021 18:17

King. Especially as fiancé is fairly tall and kicky. He claims l flail but l don’t believe it Grin

Douchebaggette · 24/02/2021 18:18

My love is King....

sausagepastapot · 24/02/2021 18:18

Superking if you have space. You don't so king.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 24/02/2021 18:19

King size. He’s tall and all elbows and knees, and I’m chunky and like to sleep like a star fish. We would have a super king if the bedroom was big enough.

Gatehouse77 · 24/02/2021 18:21

Super King here and we love being able to have our own space and fidget without disturbing the other. Also, we can both get hot and can throw off just our side of the duvet.

Really struggled when sharing a Queen in the US - far too close for comfort!

Kdubs1981 · 24/02/2021 18:22

We have a kingsize. We long for a super king!
