Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

We have a superking, the only real irritation is changing the bedding!

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 03/04/2021 21:03

Superking. But if it REALLY won't fit, then a King.

CrystalMaisie · 03/04/2021 21:04

We have superking.

BananaBMumma · 03/04/2021 21:08

King size but super king duvet cover. Would have a super king bed if we had the space.

AngeloMysterioso · 03/04/2021 21:12

King size here and I’d be alright with an even bigger one tbh! We’re both fidgety sleepers

IcanandIwill · 03/04/2021 21:16

Super king. I couldn't go back!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 03/04/2021 21:19

Super king

Aprilx · 03/04/2021 21:20

I think a double is only sufficient for a single adult. We have a king, really we would prefer a super king but the room could not take it.

Mum2jenny · 03/04/2021 21:20

I do switch between sleeping in a king and a superking and I do sleep better in the superking, but I do like my space and my DP does like his space too.

justasking111 · 03/04/2021 21:20

We're king size here and a really good mattress no rolling into the middle doubles for the children

waitingpatientlyforspring · 03/04/2021 21:20

We have a double as don't have room for anything bigger. If I had the room I would super king size the bed for sure!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 03/04/2021 21:21

Super king.

If no room for that then a king at the very least. Doubles are just too tiny and we are pretty average sized (me 5’8”, him 5’10”, both normal range BMIs).

Hankunamatata · 03/04/2021 21:21

Superking if you can fit it in. Bigger the better

Mum2jenny · 03/04/2021 21:22

However try sleeping in a 4foot bed with a dp and a dog or baby and you will appreciate the space you do have!!!!

QueenOfPain · 03/04/2021 21:22

Most people DO NOT have double beds. I’ve got a king size but would like to upgrade for a super king.

Can’t do it at present as I’ve got a tempur mattress and that would be very expensive to replace and I wouldn’t be without a tempur ever again.

Even if you are “the problem”, it’s not exactly an unreasonable request to get a new bed so you’ll be more comfortable and well rested. Your boyfriend sounds like a dickhead.

JurassicShay · 03/04/2021 21:22

Super king & seperate rooms although I do share with DS.

I don't like being touched when I'm sleeping & we have our own quilts!

Porthesia · 03/04/2021 21:22

King and I'd for super king if I could

Mum2jenny · 03/04/2021 21:23

Dog and baby together is a bit too much, but is doable if it is essential

CaramelWaferAndTea · 03/04/2021 21:24

Happily had a double for 8 years. Had a baby and was a serious squeeze with 3 of us. Got a super king.

QueenOfPain · 03/04/2021 21:24

I’m 6ft and my boyfriend says I sleep like a swastika so biggest bed possible is ideal for us.

Would sooner sleep in separate beds than agree to share a double.

SpringTimeDream · 03/04/2021 21:24

Neither, if you have the room go Superking....

HeronLanyon · 03/04/2021 21:25

Do you think there will be an Emperor or Tsar or maybe Supreme Leader ??

I have a double all to myself except when dp stays. Then double feels small.

Fountainsoftea · 03/04/2021 21:27

We've had a double our whole partnership. Both just under 6ft. Shared it for a number of years with a sprawling child. I'd love, love, love a king size, but the bedroom is too small.

Howshouldibehave · 03/04/2021 21:30

DH and I spent a year in a single every weekend when we were first going out-now that was cosy!

I’d say the bigger the better, BUT is this an expensive purchase that he doesn’t want/hasn’t budgeted for at the moment-is that the problem, more than the bed size?

Superstar22 · 03/04/2021 21:32

Super king now.
BUT
Think it’s too big (not for the room). It’s like we are literally in separate beds.
Think our precious King Size was the best.
