AIBU to think these lgbt history resources should not be in school

Resources produced by The Proud Trust and Stonewall for LGBT history month do the following, according to ssauk:

•	Teach children that they can be born into the wrong body or have a boy ‘inside’ and girl body outside (or vice versa).
•	Teach children that their parents and other trusted adults can be wrong about something as fundamental as the sex of a child – whether they are a boy or a girl.
•	Teach a belief held by a minority of people as if it were a fact.
•	Teach an incorrect and harmful definition of sexual orientation, which is likely to harm lesbian and gay (or those who would grow up to be) children the most.
•	Groom children into campaigning for things which are contrary to their rights under the Equality Act 2010 and to their safety. This will especially impact girls.
•	Misrepresent the struggle that LGB people have experienced to gain equal marriage.

Surely schools should only use materials which are compliant with the latest DfE RSE guidance and safeguarding protocols. These resources are terrible.

Here you go!

Where’s there man in the background?

Jumpers268 · 25/02/2021 00:12

@OppsUpsSide urinals in the background Wink.

Erkrie · 25/02/2021 00:14

Most transmen don't pass. The ones that genuinely do are unlikely to use the women's bathrooms anyway.

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:14

The sad thing is, of the trans women I have/do know, have I ever felt threatened? No. Not once. Trans men? Same.
But the whole thing has been taken over by TRA’s who have no real interest in these people just living their life, they use it as another tool to subjugate women. It’s the overwhelming incitement of violence and hate which I have never experienced from a trans man or woman in RL, but is spread all over the internet. And to whose benefit? It is being campaigned upon by people who want to abuse it, that’s the problem.

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:16

Oh no! Not the triggering aspect of an inanimate urinal! 😱

slashlover · 25/02/2021 00:24

@OppsUpsSide

Here you go!

Where’s there man in the background?

This is getting really specific and picky now.
AIBU to think these lgbt history resources should not be in school
slashlover · 25/02/2021 00:25

@Erkrie

Most transmen don't pass. The ones that genuinely do are unlikely to use the women's bathrooms anyway.
So what bathroom they can use depends on whether someone else thinks they can pass?
OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:25

She pictured someone pissing to prove her point? And that’s what? Commendable?

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:27

Wonder how happy she’d be for someone to take a pic of her pissing and post it. Or is it different rules?

Stompythedinosaur · 25/02/2021 00:27

And I’m sure someone will come and try to convince me I’m wrong but this sounds suspiciously like when decades ago we were not allowed to teach that gay people exist as people claimed it would influence their child to be gay......

I agree strongly with this. I remember when teachers couldn't tell kids that it was OK to be gay.

I'm happy we are moving towards a more inclusive society.

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:31

You’re basically just othering anyone that isn’t heteronormative there.
It’s a bit like saying well if you’re not white, you’re the other.

slashlover · 25/02/2021 00:32

Wonder how happy she’d be for someone to take a pic of her pissing and post it. Or is it different rules?

Oh FFS!

Here's a pic of a trans man in a ladies bathroom, see how silly it looks?
"I wonder if a trans woman would so confidently take such a selfie in a men’s toilet? No? And why is that...?"
Here's a pic of a trans woman in a gents bathroom.
"Where’s there man in the background?"
Here's one.
"How dare they take a pic!!!11!!!1"

I give up.

OppsUpsSide · 25/02/2021 00:33

I give up

I think you should

Jumpers268 · 25/02/2021 00:52

@slashlover you can't even tells he's pissing. Literally standing with his back to the camera. Ha. I enjoyed that video too!

Mockolate · 25/02/2021 00:52

@Erkrie

Most transmen don't pass. The ones that genuinely do are unlikely to use the women's bathrooms anyway.
The ones that genuinely do though, even if they're not likely to use the women's bathrooms as they're trans men and so likely to be using the men's rooms instead, that's just like trans women in the women's, right? What people are saying is how are people saying that it's fine for trans men who pass to be in the women's, as they're "not a threat cos woman?' How would you know? Seeing as people want people to use the bathroom that correlates to their birth sex? How do you propose people tell, without harassing or questioning people if they're "allowed" to be in there?
Erkrie · 25/02/2021 00:52

So what bathroom they can use depends on whether someone else thinks they can pass?

Nope. Men should not be in women's bathrooms regardless of gender identity. Transmen can piss where they want. They're not a threat, few men are bothered by it, and quite frankly it's not my problem if men have an issue with it. Im only concerned about women's spaces. Hope this helps.

Mockolate · 25/02/2021 00:55

But..... you're still not answering the question, as to how would you know if you saw him in the ladies?

slashlover · 25/02/2021 00:55
@slashlover you can't even tells he's pissing. Literally standing with his back to the camera. Ha. I enjoyed that video too!
John Oliver makes everything better.

Jumpers268 · 25/02/2021 00:55

Because they have / had a penis they're a threat. You realise that if a man wanted to attack you, they'd probably not be that bothered if you went into a woman's toilet.

Jumpers268 · 25/02/2021 00:57

Oh @Mockolate it's okay if you don't know. So if they pass as a woman it's absolutely fine. They're, therefore, no longer a threat. Penis or not.

Mockolate · 25/02/2021 00:58

And my comment was referring to the picture of the trans man (born female for clarity as you seem unsure by saying men don't belong in the women's but in the next breath "can piss where they like as they're not a threat)

Upsetting to see classic MN anti trans sentiment seeping across multiple boards now, but really heartened to see challenges too from numerous posters Thanks
So much foaming bigotry masquerading as 'protecting children', and patronising dismissals.

abstractprojection · 25/02/2021 04:17

You start off by asking if there should be LGBT history resources in schools. Yes there should be.

LGBT rights are part of our history as a country and people. The broader the history we are taught about ourselves the more engaged pupils are in the subject and the more they know about the world they are entering.

You then post a list of claims from a campaign group saying what they think these resources will include inc. some statements that go against medical science.

Who are and what are these claims based on?

Stonewall are a very reputable organisation and personally I would trust, having seen much of their material, any material that they put into schools
