To have nothing nice

Aibu to think you just can't have anything nice when you have young children.
My sofa has stains all over it, crumbs everywhere. Playdoh in the carpet. Pen on the wooden table. Stuff knocked over and stained. Clothes ruined from stains. No matter how many times I say please he careful, it's not listened to. I know my DS doesn't mean to do it on purpose but it's just annoying when you pay for things and eventually they get ruined.
Anyone else feel the same?

Our table has a few pen marks but I couldn't handle sofa stains or dirty carpets. We mop up spills instantly and use stain remover, have throws on the sofa and paid for that cleaning service with dfs which we used a few times. There are a few marks on the walls but we will paint over them every couple of years.

@babbaloushka

We also had one of those little yellow sticky men on the ceiling in the hall for literal years, I was always too knackered to remember to get it down, and would only notice when we had guests.
Ha, we have two little greasy marks on the ceiling. They’re from two jelly eyeballs from a science kit that were flung at the ceiling and stuck. Sigh

  1. food and playdough on kitchen table.
  2. one of ours drew on everything with pens, so pens and paper in kitchen too until a bit older and then also in his bedroom.

It is not inevitable. I am pretty laid back about cleanliness, but we had a few boundaries

I think a lot of this is about space, we have huge cupboards and bookshelves built either side of a chimney breast and 3 reception rooms, so the sofa isn't covered in sticky hand prints, food isn't eaten in the sitting room, playdoh paint etc aren't on the carpets (Mainly because we have original floorboards throughout and the odd rug) because we have plenty of other spaces for those activities, those cupboards are full of themed boxes, Duplo, dinosaurs and animals, arts and crafts etc so a box or two comes out DS plays, stuff goes back in boxes, he helps do a big tidy before he goes up for his bath, he has an activity table, we also have a dining table in a dining room where we eat together. So actually it's not hard to keep things tidy and clean. Separate spaces and loads of storage are key.
I am absolutely aware this is a huge privilege and if we lived in a small flat with one room to serve as living, dining, playroom it would be a much much harder task.

and when older, nail varnish to be applied in bathroom

Oh that reminds me.
I painted dd2 nails for fun, aged about 9.
I put the bag with nail varnish on top of the high bookcase, about 7' off the ground.
Went to bed.
Next morning dd2 came down early, climbed up to get the bag, painted her nails at the coffee table.
The polished wood coffee table. She spilt nail varnish remover on it. Took the polish off.

I was not happy when I came down!
Needless to say it was a while before we did fun nails again.
