Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

@Fairyliz

I’m with you op extra veg with salmon en croute. Looking at most of these replies you can see why 66% of the population is overweight (don’t mention the f word)
It's not because of double carb. It's because of parge portions in general. I got fat on salads 🤷🏻
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/02/2021 10:02

@Directionerforever

Ya know you could eat carbs for every single meal and so long as you ate less calories than you expended you’d lose weight. Stop demonising carbs. Calories not carbs 💪🏻
You do realise somebody will come along and take issue with your calories not carbs? They'll be some 'science' thrown about and you'll be told how wrong you are.
praecantator · 23/02/2021 10:03

What are people on about being 'joyless' by not liking completely weird food combinations such as pizza and chips or lasagne and chips? Abominations, both, however, if you like them, chomp on.

farandfew · 23/02/2021 10:04

I feel heartbroken for you that you must never have had a chip butty.

Fiona2020 · 23/02/2021 10:05

@2021WillBeMyBitch Top Tier food that.

TonytheDog · 23/02/2021 10:05

BarbaraofSeville you can't put that there and not say where it's from! It would have to be a vegetarian pie though.
I used to work near a traditional pie and mash shop and I had pie, mash and pea everyday - with cherry pie and custard. It think it cost something ridiculous like £3!

Fiona2020 · 23/02/2021 10:06

I’m the north east we have two kinds of potatoes on our roasts!

Also garlic bread is a must with lasagna!

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 23/02/2021 10:07

Potatoes/pasta/rice are a cheap way to fill my growing teens. The amount of salmon/veg it would take to fill them up would be unaffordable and they'd be hungry again 3.5 seconds later.

dottiedodah · 23/02/2021 10:07

Surely a light pastry crust wont be that filling though?I would serve with boiled potatoes (or heavens above some chips even!) a couple of green veggies .Good to go same with a pie.

Rooroobear · 23/02/2021 10:08

Oh no, I’m having macaroni cheese and garlic bread for my dinner today!! Didn’t realise I wasn’t allowed to have that!!
Bore off mate.

Lynora · 23/02/2021 10:08

I would just have a single pea and flake of salmon. I'd be full up for days.

Ninkanink · 23/02/2021 10:09

Joyless because they bother to start threads like this...Because they need so desperately to feel superior over perfectly normal things like having a bit of potato alongside some pie crust or pastry.

I can cook Italian, Persian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Scandinavian, British, French, South Asian, African foods, and much more besides, from scratch, and do, often; I can assure you I’m not some philistine with under developed culinary tastes.

ClaudiaWankleman · 23/02/2021 10:10

Not that bothered about the healthy portions, but I agrees about double carbs. Dont understand it. They don't go together

Yes they do.

  • Pizza and chips
  • Lasagne and garlic bread
  • Pasta and chickpeas
  • Sandwich and crisps
  • Burger and chips

Let people eat what they want. We’ve all got fat from eating double carbs...killjoy. So now I’m going to eat my macaroni cheese with garlic bread AND chips just because I can. I will happily carry my fatness around with me and enjoy it.
Directionerforever · 23/02/2021 10:11

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit it won’t bother me. I’ll just smoosh a potato in their face 🤣

Lweji · 23/02/2021 10:11

Are you ok, Ninkanink?

GnomeDePlume · 23/02/2021 10:12

This thread is making me sad.

I am sworn off carbs (T2 Diabetes). DS keeps torturing me by making toast.

I may have to resort to licking the screen to get the taste of pie & chips etc

Correlation · 23/02/2021 10:13

What's an unnecessary carbohydrate?

midnightstar66 · 23/02/2021 10:14

What on earth is weird about pasta and garlic bread? This is what OP was so incensed about she asked not to get her started and needed the angriest emoji available. It is literally the job of garlic bread to mop up the sauce from a pasta dish!

Fuckingcrustybread · 23/02/2021 10:14

All this talk about carbs has sent me to sleep.

Abouttimemum · 23/02/2021 10:15

To be fair when I read that thread I did think what a waste of carbohydrate calories boiled potatoes are.
But if someone had made the effort to put them in front of me as part of a meal I’d eat them of course.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 23/02/2021 10:15

Another judgemental thread...

OP, if you were that much into health, you'd swerve the pastry instead of contaminating and ruining a salmon fillet with it.

I don't eat en-croute anything, would rather have potatoes than pastry but it wouldn't occur to me to start a thread to slam other people for eating both, or adding bread or anything else they want to eat.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/02/2021 10:15

@Directionerforever Make sure it's just the one though, any more might be unnecessary.

Ninkanink · 23/02/2021 10:15

@Lweji

Are you ok, Ninkanink?
Yes, I’m perfectly fine. Why?

I just can’t stand elitism/misplaced superiority/competitive weirdness about perfectly normal eating habits.

It comes across completely joyless to me, to be so concerned with one’s own supposed superiority that one would bother to start a thread like this.

Of course I could be entirely wrong - perhaps OP is a very joyful, contented and happy person.
