Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

As I said, there was no offence meant and those of you who thought that can just f off 😀

Fuck off yourself 😃

'Pea wet' makes me feel sick. The north knows fuck all about running chip shops anyway. Or they never used to. I went to Manchester once, many (20) years ago, and they didn't know what a fucking sausage in batter was!

However, bacon wet is food of the gods: grill the bacon so you get loads of juices on the tin foil and put your roll face down in it to soak them all up.

That is delicious. Pea wet, is not.

Oi😂

I love regional differences. Like some areas are really into curry, another really into Chinese. Then local odd but often beautiful items. Is everywhere so lbsessed with salt&pepper dishes like certain NW region?😂
Also. Is battered pieces of chocken and fries with it double carbing too?
Tees parmo is on my bucket list😂

Sandgrown1970 · 26/02/2021 09:17

Once in a chippy in Wigan I was asked if I’d like to “Wet the babbies ‘ed?”

I was very confused.

I’d ordered a few things but part of my order was a Steak and Kidney Pudding and chips. I discovered at that moment that the pudding was known locally as a “Babies Yed” and they were asking me if I wanted any pea juice on top.

All the locals laughed at me.

We’ve always have Battered Sausages here in Blackpool. I disagree with the sentiment above about Northern Chip Shops. We have excellent ones locally.

And yes, in Wigan they also put pies in a barm cake.

ElizaLaLa · 26/02/2021 09:18

That parmo thing does look good.

Fat chance of me getting one though, we are in spain where even the 'chip shops' sell oven chips ffs 😭

Although, maybe I'd find parmo in Benidorm.

The pastry around the salmon isn't going to be enough to constitute the main carbohydrate of the day for your average adult. I'd absolutely have potatoes of some sort with a salmon en croute or otherwise carb covered fish/meat/chicken. I wear size 4 jeans, have a BMI of 21 and visible abs. Yes most people eat far more carbs than we need for our activity levels but anyone who is remotely active needs more than a bit of pastry on an average day.

DishingOutDone · 26/02/2021 11:24

I think just have a plate of pea wet then, must low carb?

I agree with you and it seems no one has thought that the reason people add eg potatoes to frigging salmon is sheer cost . I was raised on basically a carb laden diet - that is how it was in ye olden days and in relatively poor families and still is . People cannot afford to sit and stuff their faces with salmon or any other protein in huge quantities due to the sheer cost . People have to feed children and on budgets hence eg pasta and garlic bread . Everyone isn't running around obsessed with their gym honed size 6 figure low carbing . Get real 🤔
alittleprivacy · 26/02/2021 12:50

Actually thinking about it, when I was a kid/teen my diet was extremely carb-y. I'd have cereal and toast for breakfast. A sandwich, piece of fruit and something like a Penguin bar for my school lunch. Dinner, straight after school would be meat, potatoes and veg or pasta/rice. And maybe some biscuits. Around 6.30 I'd have a sandwich maybe followed by biscuits. As I got older I'd often have another sandwich an hour or so before bed. I'd often have dessert, I had plenty of sweets. As a teenager I'd often buy chips in the evening when out walking with friends.

I was never even remotely overweight as a child or teen. I guess I was pretty active and growing from a child/teen to an adult requires energy but I'd never even eat close to that amount of food of any sort now despite being very fit and active now.

No, they don't. Our bodies need the glucose, but we're meant to be making that from stored fat, by a process called gluconeogenesis. That's what stored fat is for. The sugar/carbs we eat only last a few hours, but even the leanest of us would live 2 or 3 weeks with no food at all because we have a healthy amount of stored fat.

Also, lots of people seem to think 'slim = healthy' and 'overweight = unhealthy'. It's really not like that. It's about likelihoods. You can be overweight and malnourished, and that's what a carb-heavy diet does for many people. That's the condition that's causing problems for people's health.

I have just had lentil soup (lentils have loads of carb Shock ) with whole meal BREAD! Double carb Shock. But what a dilemma! Pulses and grains together provide the perfect mix of amino acids (protein).

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/02/2021 18:15

Well my basically double carb is carrot and noodles today for dinner in my soup. It appears there is only 4g difference. 😱 Well it's 150g of carrot vs 25g of dry rice noodles but still😂
Bit my saturated fat today is less than half of recomended. People just don't know what healthy portion of saturated fat is, do they...😁

PurpleDaisies · 26/02/2021 18:17

It’s been a rotten day so dh has gone to the chippy. Chip butty for me tonight, largely down to cravings from this thread. Smile

That wouldn't count as double carb.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/02/2021 19:04

Nor would the lentils imho that's why I too joked and talked about my carrots😁

WithMyOldCockLinnet · 26/02/2021 19:08

Yes, but where will it end? You can’t eat lentils or carrots on a keto diet!

Kdubs1981 · 26/02/2021 19:11

@Potterythrowdown

Quite agree OP, I only eat half a potato on Christmas Day and that's enough for the year.

carolinesbaby · 26/02/2021 19:12

Ooh we had pie with potatoes in it and suet crust pastry last night OP, it was utterly delicious. You'd hate us.

😱 i can't live without carrots. I remember for keto it's below 30g, isn't it. I genuinely admire anyone who can do it because large orange is like 22g apparently.
LemonSwan · 26/02/2021 20:40

If this thread has taught me anything; its that the reason we have an obesity problem is because most people think one diet fits all.

DishingOutDone · 27/02/2021 15:50

@ChristOnAPeloton one can't help but think the ear wax advert is actually showing us some tasty batter bits, before closer inspection. With a bit of pea wet round them .... Envy (not envy)

DishingOutDone · 27/02/2021 15:52

@SchrodingersImmigrant have you done the calculation for a dish of pea wet? Surely that would be much better for you than scoffing carrots AND noodles?

midnightstar66 · 27/02/2021 16:40

I'm just ordering Chinese including rice, chips AND chicken balls in batter. Currently trying to divide if I want to add a noodle dish too Blush. It reminded me of this thread! 😆

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 16:45

"Chips and rice tonight, Joyce. Chips AND rice!"
😁 This always rings in my head when I here the combo🙈

@DishingOutDone I didn't. I am sure it's less than what i scoffed though. Tonight I have a chili. A mixed bean chili with rice... (Like 6 types of beans, lentils and bit of mince ao I am covering other pp's lentils today too😂)

Caramelwhispers · 27/02/2021 17:46

We're having fish pie tonight with lots of buttery mash on top with peas & corn on the cob on the side. With more butter on top. 😋
