Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

And aren't things like aloo curry also traditionally served with a second carb? Or even third🙈

ToffeePennie · 23/02/2021 09:39

What is this phrase “unnecessary carbohydrates”?

4amWitchingHour · 23/02/2021 09:39

@Tureen

CARB ALERT CARB ALERT CARB ALERT!!!!

Is double carbs even more of a no-no than double denim?

🤣
LolaSmiles · 23/02/2021 09:39

with extra green veg to fill everyone up
I'm sure there is a mumsnet bingo here.

Seriously though a well-balanced diet over the course of the day/week is perfectly sensible. Nobody dies from having a slice of garlic bread with their pasta, or a couple of potatoes with their fish.

I couldn't eat potatoes with pastry, the horror! I ate half a crumpet for breakfast today that's plenty until autumn.

SatsumasOrClementines · 23/02/2021 09:40

Buttery potatoes as a side does sound delicious though OP, no?

How about you spend a bit more time looking for joy and bit less time being negative about the fact other people don’t live life in exactly the same way you do?

4amWitchingHour · 23/02/2021 09:40

God I'm hungry now.

Ninkanink · 23/02/2021 09:40

🙄🙄

I low carb pretty consistently for health reasons; I understand all about healthy foods and eating well. You’re being utterly ridiculous.

What a joyless life you must lead.

Directionerforever · 23/02/2021 09:40

Ya know you could eat carbs for every single meal and so long as you ate less calories than you expended you’d lose weight. Stop demonising carbs. Calories not carbs 💪🏻

You monster. That will do you till Christmas.
JesusAteMyHamster · 23/02/2021 09:41

I do like a good, mucky carb.

Chinese takeaway for example.......chips, rice, battered chicken balls, noodles, prawn toast maybe a few wontons and a spring roll........ It's like a carb soup 😂😂😂

LizzieSiddal · 23/02/2021 09:41

It depends on how hungry everyone is. Don’t kill me but I rarely serve potatoes with a pie, just lots of veg. If we’re all really hungry I will do potatoes (usually chips).

I do😁 As I said. Carbs for life😁

@Shantotto

Ooh yay a competitive under-eating thread!
Yay! Time to get the Mumsnet bingo card out!
Comefromaway · 23/02/2021 09:44

The amount of pastry on something like a salmon en croute would not fill me up with just veg alone. Plus new potatoes are really nice. I need lots of carbs or I end up feeling nauseous. I've always been a healthy weight.

MrsKFZeeeeee · 23/02/2021 09:44

@HobnobbingAboutHobnobs

Some people would have been shocked at the dinner DH served up last night - stew with dumplings, mash AND Yorkshire pudding! 🤯
I do that but can't serve pizza with chips, I just can't cross that line Grin
Fallsballs · 23/02/2021 09:44

I’ve just fainted at the horror of it OP

Iwantacookie · 23/02/2021 09:45

I simply wouldn't be full without extra carbs. Doesnt matter if I eat a forest with it, it still wouldn't be enough for me.

TheJerkStore · 23/02/2021 09:45

If it were up to me potatoes would be served with every meal.

FreeAt50 · 23/02/2021 09:45

haha gimme the carbs! My kids like lasagne, chips and garlic bread Grin I like pasta with salad, they think I am nuts!

DenisetheMenace · 23/02/2021 09:46

Please do t move to the NW, I think our pies would give you the vapours Grin

MojoJojo71 · 23/02/2021 09:46

If complete strangers eating pasta with garlic bread genuinely makes you 🤬 then you really have a problem.

FellowFlipFlop · 23/02/2021 09:47

Jesus christ. Get a fucking life

BoJoHoNo · 23/02/2021 09:48

Meh I couldn't get overly excited about this. I tend to eat low carb meals (don't generally eat bread potatoes, carrots etc at home) most of the time as I feel better for it and find I don't need to eat as much as I've got older. That doesn't mean I'll never eat a carby meal at a restaurant or pile up the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds at Christmas.

praecantator · 23/02/2021 09:48

Lemony green beans or a good salad would work much better. I love a good boiled potato as part of a dish that loves said potato - such as fried plaice or similar - but salmon-en-croute doesn't need them in any shape or form.
Nowt to do with carbs.
