May contain accidental spoilers
Has anyone else watched this? I feel robbed of the six hours of my life that I committed to this. What started off with a lot of promise just turned into utter wank. Big thumbs down from me, Netflix.

Dreadful! I hate the current obsession for "twists". I saw the author on a panel at a book talk and all they talked about was frigging twists.

Have we really become so flighty and dumb that we need the promise of a twist to attract and keep our attention?

ParadiseLaundry · 01/03/2021 12:54

I watched the first two episodes and thought it was absolutely shit, but British dramas always are IMO. Weird, wooden acting, totally unrealistic and poorly written. I looked up the end and just think it seemed like a cheap cop out tbh.

saltychocolateballs · 01/03/2021 13:08

I loved it

Anon778833 · 01/03/2021 14:46

One thing that doesn’t make sense though from a continuity POV, is that sociopaths aren’t generally the type of people who will develop heroin addiction. Heroin addicts are usually trying to mask emotional pain. Obviously I’m talking generally, but I don’t feel that Rob is a well thought out character.

BloggersBlog · 01/03/2021 14:59

I love a good twist Grin but not when it means changing genre from a phycological drama to the paranormal.

That's like changing Mamma Mia halfway in to a horror story (discounting the horror that was PB singing obvs). It just isnt on!!

Notabove25 · 01/03/2021 15:11

Yes! It was an engaging enough drama while you were wondering if he was abusing or she was, and thinking about the rights and wrongs of the interlocking relationships, then it just went weird in the last couple of episodes.

I never did understand what happened with Robbie, he seemed a nice lad, so even if the ending was possible, why would it have gone the way it did?

SocialistSloth · 01/03/2021 15:11

I read the book. At the end, oh my god that ending, I literally said out loud, "For fuck's sake!" I'd have thrown it across the room but I didn't want to accidentally hit a cat.

Notabove25 · 01/03/2021 15:16

@OhWhyNot

It was utter nonsense

It could have been better with a different twist

The actress playing Adele was so wooden (can’t remember her name)

I thought she was supposed to be that way, detached, but apparently she's Bono's daughter. Eve Hewson.
Redglitter · 01/03/2021 15:16

I've just started reading the book. I'm now wondering if it's worth continuing

I think that he wasn't a nice lad at all, he seemed a nice lad towards Adele because it looked like he had her marked as a target straight away because she was rich. If you look at how he interacted with other people on the show (the nurse and his sister for instance) he was really nasty and rude. In fact the nurse specifically tried to warn Adele to stay away from him and his sister also told Louise that he was a nasty person, it also show's him stealing from his sister before he left to visit Adele. The "nice" side of Rob were told by Rob himself from his Diary entries and how he acted with Adele which was probably a con
Notabove25 · 01/03/2021 16:10

I obviously took it far too much at face value Arya. I took him as a damaged soul who had had a horrible childhood, some of it at the hands of an abusive sister!

I spent the first few episodes wanting to find out everything had turned out for him in the end.

LolaNova · 01/03/2021 16:13

Just reading this thread has made me remember how much rage I felt when I finished this book. I was on holiday and so angry by the pool 😂

Oh yeah that's obviously what we were all supposed to think, it's only when you look back on what we actually saw for ourselves and what he told us that you can make a distinction. The sister for example, she doesn't seem like a waster who stole his money, remember Louise was looking her up and she owned her own business and the only money we saw being taken was when Rob stole from her handbag
UKhun · 01/03/2021 16:34

@Llareggub

The plot was basically the same as a Lois Duncan book called “Stranger with my Face.” I’m in my 40s now and read it as a teen. Just a guess but I think the author might have too.
Ooh I liked Lois Duncan as a teen. She wrote a brilliant book called Summer of Fear. She also wrote I Know What you Did Last Summer I think. And another great one called Killing Mr Griffin.

Watched it at the weekend.... Wow, was not expecting that! Overall, despite a few annoying things, I loved it and it is a TV show that I have been thinking about since I finished which hadn't happened for a while!

It was annoying when the genre switched - when they started doing to above shots with the coloured light overlay I was thinking, 'so she is psychic?' and thought it might be to do with the drugs, but then realised it was taking a supernatural turn. I agree that generally, viewers/readers want to know what is plausible in the universe they are immersed in, so it was kind of frustrating when that revelation happened.

Still don't really get why Louise projected to get into the burning house, was she going to try and go into Adele and make her get up (did she even know that was possible at that point?). Why couldn't 'Adele/Louise' move when they swapped, same as when 'Rob/Adele' was paralysed when they swapped in the woods? Was it because of heroin, or was it because Rob was first to go back into the other body both times?

Also, when David went back up to Scotland to sort stuff out, what did he tell the police? Wasn't there an investigation into Rob's death, why David's watch was down there with him? David was mostly a dick throughout and I didn't really get what Louise saw in him (apart from him being so easy on the eye and a good shag!).

I also thought they should have dropped a few more hints about Rob being capable of something so terrible. He came across as very sweet and just sort of harmlessly jealous not the total psycho that was living in Adele. The only hint was the sister saying he was a nasty piece of work.

Also, didn't get the significance of the pills in Louise's early dreams, as she hadn't even met Adele by then? There were a lot of coincidences (eg. Louise happened to have night terrors etc) but I think that it was just that Rob/Adele saw the ideal opportunity to move on and took it, Louise was the perfect victim.

So sad for both Adam and Adele, who was lovely all along! I'm so tempted to watch it again and look for clues!

BarbaraofKent · 01/03/2021 17:18

In fact the nurse specifically tried to warn Adele to stay away from him and his sister also told Louise that he was a nasty person, it also show's him stealing from his sister before he left to visit Adele.

But the stuff with the nurse was more like 'cheeky little shit' banter, and the stealing from the sister again just a bit of petty theft.

Not full capable of on murdering your lovely trusting best friend so you can steal her life!

I did that classic thing where I only remembered I'd read it 5 episodes in. Hoped to god they had changed the ending. They hadn't. Utter lunacy and a complete waste of my time.

Knew I should have gone queen's gambit. Lesson learnt- one hot man does not a good show make

You definitely should have gone for Queen's Gambit, it's fantastic and not even comparable.

At least you've got the better one to watch now though Smile

TeenTitan007 · 01/03/2021 19:11

Just finished it yesterday. I loved it! The twist at the end was unpredictable albeit unbelievable too. But it made me rethink the whole story now that I knew the end, and it was fascinating, and everything made sense.

Why does everything have to be sensible? Why not just accept a make believe script if it's well told?

DrManhattan · 01/03/2021 20:45

@Youreatragedystartingtohappen

The queens gambit is soooo good. Its head and shoulders above BHE garbage.

BarbaraofKent · 01/03/2021 21:18

I loved The Queens Gambit but it's not really comparable to Behind Her Eyes, they are totally different. I loved them both, I didn't really find TQG all that gripping though, just very enjoyable to watch.

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 01/03/2021 21:47

I couldn’t stop staring at Adele after reading that the actress who played her is Bono’s daughter. I could just SEE Bono in a black bobbed wig. She didn’t even really look like him at all so maybe I was having some sort of paranormal experience myself.

BarbaraofKent · 01/03/2021 21:50

I knew I recognised Rob as well, I looked it up and he plays the young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. I also thought I recognised Louise's friend (Sophie?) but looked her up and I haven't seen anything she has been in? Confused

Teardrop2021 · 01/03/2021 21:59

Tbh the flash backs were robs memories from his notebook there weren't Adeles there were altered perceptions at the moment time there weren't necessarily true reflections of the time. They can't account for all the interactions he had with other people at the institution he stayed at or with his sister. Alot of the interactions with marianne and the cat which was brutally murdered by him was left out which was in the book and I believe alot more of robs sociopathic behaviour was detailed in the book.

Wallabyone · 02/03/2021 01:50

We've just finished this-started last night and raced through it. It did get very, very weird, but I think I enjoyed it!

It was lost a double twist at the end really. The fire swap was bad enough, but then when it showed the flashback I found it pretty shocking. The whole thing was quite disturbing, and probably why I'm still lying here awake at almost 2am Grin
