May contain accidental spoilers
Has anyone else watched this? I feel robbed of the six hours of my life that I committed to this. What started off with a lot of promise just turned into utter wank. Big thumbs down from me, Netflix.

jajabanks · 26/02/2021 09:32

Oh no, just watched the first three episodes last night 😭was looking forward to the last three.

Givemeanidea878 · 26/02/2021 09:33

Complete agree I absolutely loved it until half way through

Shitzngiggles · 26/02/2021 09:53

I read the book a couple of years ago so can't remember all the details. But I do remember never being so disappointed in an ending ever. Such a cop out. I love psychological thrillers so was really enjoying it until that stupid nonsensical ending. So I won't bother watching the series.

MrsBungle · 26/02/2021 09:57

Totally agree about the accent thing. I found it really annoying that Adele was Scottish but had an English accent.

I was really enjoying it until the ridiculous astral projection bit.

Acrasia · 26/02/2021 10:03

I was consider watching it, despite hating the book because from the trailer it made it seem like they had perhaps made it more obvious from the beginning that it was paranormal.

As I was reading it, I was thinking, please don’t make this go where I think it’s going. The final twist is actually a brilliant twist for a paranormal story, had I known that it was paranormal from the outset I think I would have loved the book, but I think it was lazy writing to make the fact that it’s paranormal at all a twist in itself, and it annoyed me so much I gave it my first ever one star on Goodreads.

MustardMitt · 26/02/2021 10:10

I’m not going to, I googled the twist and thought na, completely ridiculously implausible.

I stayed for all of that Harlen Coben story they did - Safe? Home? Some single syllable word. I should have stopped the moment I knew it was a HC story as they’re all shit and rely on a deus ex machina to resolve the storyline. I too felt cheated.

FuckingBUTTERbeans · 26/02/2021 10:14

There's a thread about this on the Streaming TV board and many people expressed the same opinion as the OP (myself included!).

Sparklfairy · 26/02/2021 10:30
@Sparklfairy

If someone is acting weird we aren't going to assume it's the soul of a dead person are we 😂. I think we are suppose to be left guessing on that one, maybe he does during the honeymoon 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I just hated the ending because of poor Adam 😩

I wonder if there is a season 2.
Well true, but I'd kind of have expected him to think, 'oh shit, it seems I attract crazy people' and ditch Louise. Not friggin marry her and skip merrily into the sunset seemingly oblivious. Just seems a gaping plot hole a bit like why the hell Louise astral projected into a burning building to save a woman she couldn't actually save whilst in astral form!

Season 2 could flesh out David's dawning realisation. Could be quite fun if you know what to expect this time around...!?

dontdisturbmenow · 26/02/2021 10:43

I'm not into paranormal at all, but could have gone with it if the script had not been so poor.

For one, they should have made the 'friend' female. Much more plausible as a story line. As it is, if all he cared was the money, why end up acting do jealous. Even in divorce, he would remained loaded. It would have been better to have a female who fell madly in love with him.

As for Louise showing up at the door and deciding to go and swap her soul, totally ridiculous. Any normal.oersin would have called the fire brigade as the scene was set.

Also, did anyone notice, the first time he sees Louise in her flat. She puts her glass of wine in the table before taking him to the door. You then here the sound of a second glass being put down on the table (as you'd expect from someone about to go), but when they get to the door, he still has his glass in his hands.

A detail only, but it set be up for feeling the filming was amateurish.

dontdisturbmenow · 26/02/2021 10:47

Oh, didn't you see the final final.episide when Adam tells his 'mum' that he likes Lisa better and wants to live with his dad and her? 😀

dontdisturbmenow · 26/02/2021 10:53

she called 999 from the car, which is why they arrived right at the end
Yeah, well, that's very late arrival considering all age managed to do in that time. Not even the sirens in the background! No neighbour or people on the street gathering...

Also, amazing how slow the fire took on considering where it was set!

It's these kind of details that to me kills it's credibility, supernatural or not.

crystalcherry87 · 26/02/2021 10:56

I thought it was ok, the ending was a bit stupid but still quite enjoyed watching it.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 26/02/2021 11:00

I felt so sorry for Adam at the end. And yes they lived in Z1 London, there are people everywhere but not one neighbour or passerby noticed a massive house was burning down?!

To PP, Rob was gay and clearly infatuated with David from first sight which is why he won’t let him go, it’s not just about the money.

SecretOfChange · 26/02/2021 14:24

I feel cheated too. It's not fair to unload all the fantasy tripe without warning, instead of something that makes sense.

Even the paranormal angle aside, just how many coincidences had to happen for everything to end the way it did? Very forced. Most strangely why did Louise enter the house in the end in the paranormal way instead of calling the police like any normal person would - what was she hoping to achieve?

MessagesKeepGettingClearer · 26/02/2021 15:15

The first 5.5 episodes were good. The last half hour was absolutely ridiculous. I feel cheated. Turned from a psychological thriller into a silly fantasy story.

They ruined it.

Caesargeezer · 26/02/2021 15:50

Totally agree with a pp that it was a psychological thriller that suddenly turned into sci-fi. I hated the ending and feel traumatised for poor Adam.

Needhelp101 · 26/02/2021 15:59

Haven't seen the series but the book was absolute bobbins. I panned it on Goodreads!

DrManhattan · 26/02/2021 17:11

Lazy lazy writing. Instead of being clever its a cop out twist. Might as well have said it was all a dream.

Mydarkside · 26/02/2021 17:36

I liked the twist tbh - appreciate I'm in the minority .
But I couldn't bear Louise .
I thought her acting was weak , her swooning over David was silly and unconvincing , there was zero on screen chemistry between them, and she just had no like ability .

ConcreteUnderpants · 26/02/2021 17:54

Completely agree OP. Don’t market it as a psychological thriller if it’s supernatural tosh. Grrrr.

MoonlightMedicine · 27/02/2021 19:08

I loved it Blush

Badgerstmary · 27/02/2021 19:36

I loved it too. I’m glad I didn’t know beforehand it was supernatural as I probably wouldn’t have bothered with it. But I’m glad I did.

Sparklesocks · 27/02/2021 19:54

Started off well but descended into crap I think. It seems that sometimes writers are so desperate to crowbar in a ‘twist’ or pull the rug out from their audience that they do so at the expense of the narrative.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/02/2021 19:58

Placemarking without reading as I am about a third of the way through the book. Intrigued to find out what the twist is...

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/02/2021 10:39

Just got to the bit in the book where Louise finds the second door, and Adele seems to have planned it. Hmm, and David said he gave her a 'woo' book on controlling dreams when she was little.

My prediction (without reading the thread) is that Adele is going to control Louise and make her do something awful in her sleep. And she previously did the same to David and made him set the fire, which is why he's trapped and can't leave her.

Will be disappointed if it is that, as it's pretty obvious.
