May contain accidental spoilers
Has anyone else watched this? I feel robbed of the six hours of my life that I committed to this. What started off with a lot of promise just turned into utter wank. Big thumbs down from me, Netflix.

I’ve watched the first three episodes, it’s okay but now i’m thinking I should just stop!

user85963842 · 23/02/2021 08:25

I read the book and watched the programme. I felt cheated, lazy writing, they don't advertise the fact it's supernatural so you think you're in for a gripping thriller with clever writing but it's not at all, May as well have ended with "it was all a dream". I didn't hate it, just felt cheated at the end.

Blabla81 · 23/02/2021 08:27

I gave it 15 minutes of my life. The acting was so watery so gave up.

CommunistLegoBloc · 23/02/2021 08:28

I am still so angry about the ending of this book - I would never read anything by this author again. I completely agree with a PP - you can't set up a contemporary mystery and then go 'ooo it was magic after all!' It's like it was written by a seven year old.

Happymum12345 · 23/02/2021 08:56

It’s left me feeling utterly disturbed!

VinterKvinna · 23/02/2021 09:05

www.vulture.com/article/behind-her-eyes-finale-twist-explained-analysis.html MANY spoilers!!

I haven't watched it, so just wanted a whats it about

Snowstorming · 23/02/2021 09:05

Honestly I get where a lot of you are coming from as I strongly enjoy real-life thrillers with realistic plots that I can work hard on uncovering; I’m not a huge fan of supernatural stuff although I enjoy an odd horror movie if the acting is good.

Now the reason I think Behind Her Eyes is different is because astral projection is not just ‘woo’. Lucid dreaming and the other branches of it are genuine phenomena that many people have experienced, although body-snatching is something I definitely can’t account for, ya. Lucid dreaming, controlling dreams, etc. are all areas that people study quite deeply and they’re not understood by everyone - tbh some people aren’t interested in dream stuff in the first place!

My review of the film is—

  1. Acting could have been better in some parts. Louise and David’s relationship felt weird and forced to me at times.
  2. Adele was a great actress, I quite enjoyed the creepiness.
  3. The backstory was dragged on TOO long for my liking (at one point I thought they could’ve made this into a movie tbh) but it did help with ‘understanding’ the ending.
  4. I predicted the twist FOR THE FIRST TIME lol! Only because I’ve seen Insidious, which also has astral projection (in more detail too).
  5. The movie reminded me of This is Us, which also helped me uncover the twist.
  6. The ending was cool, I think it was just thrown in a bit too suddenly so someone with zero knowledge of astral projection would just be like HUH?!

It was a cool concept, can’t say I hated it. Maybe a 6/10? I enjoyed it as a one-time watch, also I found Adele quite beautiful so that helped haha.

Snowstorming · 23/02/2021 09:10

Not This Is Us, I meant the move called Us!

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 23/02/2021 09:13

i thought it had the feel of the she devil about it. Obviously not the same but the feeling of obsession. It was a bit out there but it is a work of fiction.

WestendVBroadway · 23/02/2021 09:34

I really enjoyed it and was not expecting that twist at the end. I have seen lots of dramas that didn't delve into the supernatural, but yet still managed to have a s**t ending , the recent 'The drowning' being a prime example.

MrsMop1964 · 23/02/2021 09:59

I won't bother. There was a piece in the Guardian about it today that led me to google the ending...

ZaraW · 23/02/2021 10:10

I enjoyed it and the ending was unexpected.

Nobody forces you to watch until the end. Lupin wasn't for me so stopped after one episode.

user85963842 · 23/02/2021 11:05

@ZaraW but the problem is it's a bit late if it's the ending you're disappointed in, I liked the story up until it became paranormal. I don't mind paranormal normally but not when I'm expecting a gritty clever thriller. It's just a bit of a cop out. I wouldn't mind for a tv show actually but reading the book I was very frustrated. To read for 10+ hours then realise the book is a completely different genre to what is sold to you.

WellTidy · 23/02/2021 16:11

I wish it had been described as supernatural/paranormal in the blurb on Netflix before I started watching. Unless it is and I missed it. I thought it was purely a psychological drama, I wouldn’t have watched if I knew it was more than that. I liked the start and the middle and hopes it would continue in that vein but I really didn’t like the ending.

FrankskinnerscRoc · 23/02/2021 16:19

Carry on watching the soaps.

Poudrenez · 23/02/2021 16:22

I watched the first episode, but the lazy writing and dubious acting put me off. So I looked up the twist on wikipedia. I have no regrets.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 23/02/2021 16:27

I likex it
I guessed the ending but it reminded me a bit of the skeleton key without the black magic

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 23/02/2021 21:01

@FrankskinnerscRoc

Carry on watching the soaps.
I haven't watched soaps for over 15 years.

I was not expecting that ending at all. I though perhaps:

  1. David and Adele started the fire and planned to kill her parents for their money
  1. David planned to kill Adele's parents and rescue Adele who would later become rich through inheritance hence why they married when she was 18

As posters have said, Adele was a boho girl in flashback scenes (floaty dresses, unstructured flowing hair) then became prim and proper (and stiff) once married. Did David not notice this? Perhaps he thought she changed her style.

This series stayed with me.

Rowofducks · 23/02/2021 22:35

I didn’t hate it but guessed the ending. It reminded me of the shit stories I used to write at school where they woke up and it was just a dream.

The last scene did remind me of us.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 23/02/2021 22:49

DH and I were shouting at the telly when Louise was outside Adele’s at the end. We were like ‘why the fuck isn’t she calling 999?!’ But that’s the sign of escapist fun so overall I’d say we enjoyed it. Source of a lot of gags afterwards. Very different.

I did wonder why she couldn’t dress for shit when they’d moved to London. Those white chunky sling backs were fug. Made sense in the end.

Also good to see new actors.

GlitterNails · 23/02/2021 23:18

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil - she called 999 from the car, which is why they arrived right at the end.

GlamOfRags · 24/02/2021 00:31

What an ending!

yoyo1234 · 24/02/2021 00:36

Started well and promising then seemed to disintegrate into paranormal twaddle.

Pukkatea · 24/02/2021 00:49

Sometimes the reason why a twist is so different and unexpected is because no good author would ever write it.
