May contain accidental spoilers
Has anyone else watched this? I feel robbed of the six hours of my life that I committed to this. What started off with a lot of promise just turned into utter wank. Big thumbs down from me, Netflix.

Also David flushing the condom down the toilet is appalling behaviour. That's going to end up on a (fictional) beach somewhere.

Anon778833 · 28/02/2021 16:39

BUT you really do have to be able to suspend your disbelief.

I felt very sad for the real Adele when the truth came out.

Anon778833 · 28/02/2021 16:40

I really liked Louise - I thought she was charming.

MarieeBarone · 28/02/2021 16:54

Absolutely loved it.

ilikebooksandplants · 28/02/2021 17:10

There’s so much sex in it! Too much IMO!

Aprilx · 28/02/2021 17:41

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Placemarking without reading as I am about a third of the way through the book. Intrigued to find out what the twist is...
@JesusInTheCabbageVan

There isn’t a twist per se. It is more of a turn into a nonsensical plot but it is definitely not a twist. 😡. Your predictions in your next post would be infinitely better than what did happen.

tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict · 28/02/2021 17:46

I didn't mind the twist but more the ludicrous behaviour like trying to teleport into her house rather than, I don't know, calling 999. Wtf was being there in spirit supposed to achieve? Also the fact that Rob/Adele didn't seem to mind that s/he was supposedly dead and her husband didn't give a shit and just got on with being Louise. Surely it would be unbearable to hear him discuss it all with her? Like when he said "thank god it's all over" or something. It was more those kind of character flaws that bothered me.
Also I was disappointed Rob was a dick as he seemed quite nice.

zxy12 · 28/02/2021 17:49

Another vote for the ending leaving me frustrated and it felt very anticlimactic. As did Firefly Lane. And Normal People. Maybe the issue is me....

Wannabangbang · 28/02/2021 17:51

I loved it, the only disappointment was being such a short season. 6 episodes weren't enough

theliverpoolone · 28/02/2021 18:51

I hated the ending so much when I read it I had to give the book to a charity shop straight away, I couldn't bear to keep it! I still watched it though, as I wanted to see how they did it. I was glad I knew what was coming. Really liked Louise.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/02/2021 19:42

I've got about 100 pages of the book to go, and it's all gone very Gone Girl (I really enjoyed Gone Girl, though I know it's another marmite book).

Mooloolabababy · 28/02/2021 20:17

It started off good, but went down hill and the ending was crappy. That kind of stuff makes me sad as Adam and his mum had such a lovely relationship Sad

MorganKitten · 28/02/2021 20:36

@StopGuacAndRoll

If you thought it was utter wank why did you stay for all 6 episodes?

I thought it was brilliant. Something that hasn’t been done before with a nice big twist at the end. I was gripped.

That sort of twist has been done before and better, so this to me was a bit meh.
happygolurkey · 28/02/2021 20:49

I loved the book and the Netflix series. you're not being unreasonable though OP, each to their own!

Travis1 · 28/02/2021 21:07

Biggest pile of wank ever. Raging. Plus the dodgy Scottish accents and why didn’t Adele have a Scottish accent? Call her Adele Campbell with a Scottish upbringing but she speaks with a proper English accent? Fuck offfffffff

Yeah but she was supposed to have come from an Uber posh family wasn’t she. Remember Camilla on Love Island?

Yes. Poor little Adam. That made me so sad. Stuck with two strangers.
Velvian · 28/02/2021 21:49

Enjoyable and lightweight, but the ending was very disappointing. I haven't seen a twist that clunky since The Mist and Atonement.

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 28/02/2021 22:34

I agree with so many of your thoughts on it. It reeks of a teenager's entry into a story-writing competition. The rushed and ridiculous paranormal ending after quite a slow burning, tense psychological thriller beginning would have had the English teacher sending them back to re-plan.
It really went downhill, I agree with PPs, in episode three and all the dream sequences were very annoying and low budget. Could have been watching a washing powder advert.
Utter guff.
It had such promise which is the frustrating thing. Had the author had kept with the creepy theme and written a killer ending I could have ignored all the annoying bits, but to just chuck in a load of paranormal nonsense in the last half hour was a really shit idea.

@JesusInTheCabbageVan - I'd be interested to know what you make of the book. Does it make you want to watch the series?

Twoginsonetonic · 28/02/2021 23:13

Evil prevails. Two women dead and the killer gets away. Charming. Avoid at all costs.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/03/2021 12:18

@Beseigedbykillersquirrels finished the book this morning! You're all going to hate me - I really enjoyed it Grin Would have been a great holiday beach read.

I have just finished the first episode and will keep watching as I really like both Adele and Louise (though David is a bit meh). From the sound of things, do they do the 'it's all magic' reveal quite a bit later in the series? It was introduced fairly early on in the book.

OhWhyNot · 01/03/2021 12:30

It was utter nonsense

It could have been better with a different twist

The actress playing Adele was so wooden (can’t remember her name)

Beseigedbykillersquirrels · 01/03/2021 12:30

@JesusInTheCabbageVan - it's hinted at early on. They do flashbacks and such so if you're familiar with the story no doubt you'll be looking out for them throughout but you wouldn't necessarily put two and two together if you're watching for the first time.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/03/2021 12:38

If I get bored of the series I may just skip to the last episode!
